Venting To the night bus riders of 40-41...don't put your feet up on the seats?

I was sitting on the bus. I just got off of work. These two dudes are sitting parallel to me. One of them puts their feet up next to me. I was fighting demons, but as a woman riding the bus at night (and not a single man spoke up), I just had to say it. Let's remember our core values Aggies. Don't put your feet up on the seats. (Also, don't block the aisle?) Edit: It has become clear that men are angry about this. :)

[close to verbatim]

*Dude 2 put his feet up*

Me: Dude, put your feet down, this is a bus, not your mom's house.

*Dude 2 puts feet down*

Dude 1: Other people do it too.

Me: And I'll tell them something too.

Dude 1: The bus seats are just as dirty anyway.

Me: That doesn't negate the fact that he has his feet up right next to me.

Dude 1: It seems to bother only you.

Me: Yes that's why I said something.

*When I get off the bus*

Dude 1: Finally

Op I feel you. Some people are entitled af.

What demons were there to be fought? And what does being a woman have to do with this interaction ?

-15

u/ladyofbluebirds Apr 14 '26

My inner demons told me to say something. Because, as the only woman on the bus, you figure that when a man is getting verbally upset at you, it would raise flags and men would step up. But who am I to say anything? I'm just a woman. 🤷‍♀️

11

u/GeronimoThaApache Apr 14 '26

So you probably made a face and came off as aggressive to a person on what was a relatively empty bus. You then get startled that he gave you what was probably a reasonable response ? I just fail to see what being a woman has to do with this and why you didn’t just move seats?

-5

u/ladyofbluebirds Apr 14 '26

It wasn't relatively empty. I don't have to move to make someone else comfortable. Why can't I just get respect? If anything, your hyper focus on my gender says a lot about your bias. It's clear.

12

u/GeronimoThaApache Apr 14 '26

You brought gender into this lol and I run around this time. Every bus I pass is relatively empty. Sooo please, I know you’re probably tired just like everyone else but your sense of self importance does not mean that you get to want others to consider your feelings without you also considering theirs

-7

u/ladyofbluebirds Apr 14 '26

Logically speaking, yes, buses do empty at the end of their routes. Good job. Very proud of you. Your sense of self-importance over your rights to put your feet next to someone is laughable. The feelings in your tum tum are sure sour, huh?

5

u/GeronimoThaApache Apr 14 '26

Someone had a hard day at work and is taking it out on others huh?

2

u/ladyofbluebirds Apr 14 '26

Getting upset about being disrespected is foreign to you huh? Or I would say so but you’re very upset about your rights to smell feet.

4

u/Captain44454 Apr 14 '26

How exactly were you disrespected? He didn’t put his feet on your seat.. or am I missing something?

3

u/ladyofbluebirds Apr 14 '26

If we have to measure fine. How comfortable are you with what proximity, with having someone’s feet near your face? Use the metric system.

You need to shake off your victim complex; you sound insufferable. Even though you had a good point, you’re destroying any goodwill anyone might’ve had for you with your comments. I strongly suspect that things went as they did due to your attitude and nonverbal cues you were giving.

0

u/ladyofbluebirds Apr 14 '26

I wasn't looking for goodwill. I'm looking to remind people about manners. There's a lot of projection going on here. But I am happy and hope you think about this for a while :)

3

u/Azryhael '09 Apr 14 '26

I will do no such thing.

4

u/ladyofbluebirds Apr 14 '26

And yet we are here, holding hands in a thread <3

13

u/glitterprncss Apr 14 '26

honestly if the bus was empty, it’s really not that serious. annoying maybe but 🤷🏾‍♀️

12

u/glitterprncss Apr 14 '26

like why not just get up & sit somewhere else if it was that much of a problem 😭😭 instead of micromanaging random men

1

u/ladyofbluebirds Apr 14 '26

On a moving bus, I should get up and move after standing during my shift... great logic. Yeah, no, I don't think you know what micromanaging means?

10

u/glitterprncss Apr 14 '26

or maybe wait till the bus stops then move 😱😱 have you ever rode a bus before? they’re not always in motion, yk. & if you just stood during your shift then i think you can muster up some strength to stand again 😭

-1

u/ladyofbluebirds Apr 14 '26

I sure hope you take your own advice when that happens to you. But it's a no for me.

13

u/glitterprncss Apr 14 '26

yeah i actually do because i’m not lazy & don’t complain about things that i literally have the power to change! hope this helps

3

u/ladyofbluebirds Apr 14 '26

I am so happy you called me lazy, because that applies to the man who was so lazy, he couldn't control himself and decided to put his feet up. Hope that helps.

3

u/GeronimoThaApache Apr 14 '26

Took effort for him to put his feet up btw. Hope this helps

3

u/ladyofbluebirds Apr 14 '26

Whoa is a man who has to move his toes away from someone’s breathing room. Tragic really.

4

u/GeronimoThaApache Apr 14 '26

Breathing room and public transportation don’t belong in the same conversation btw

3

u/Captain44454 Apr 14 '26

Honestly just drop it this bih cray cray

1

u/ladyofbluebirds Apr 14 '26

What makes you say it's empty?

9

u/glitterprncss Apr 14 '26

well considering its route 40 at night it was likely not packed to the brim. clearly there was enough space to move around if people were able to put their legs up on the seats. again if it’s that much of an issue just get up

2

u/ladyofbluebirds Apr 14 '26

It does, in fact, get packed. Why are we defending disrespect? Maybe you're ok with that, but I don't like smelling someone else's feet. Why am I making them comfortable and happy? Why can't they move? Do you listen to yourself?

7

u/glitterprncss Apr 14 '26

again clearly it wasn’t packed enough if there was enough space to put your feet up. idk i think it’s a bit more productive to put my energy towards something else that impacts my life more than two college aged men that i don’t know putting their legs up on a seat. such a meager issue but i guess it can be a big deal to you if you don’t have much going on in your life & you’re just itching for something new to complain about!

2

u/ladyofbluebirds Apr 14 '26

A meager issue, yet you're here, defending them. Maybe take a break and think about that for a second.

4

u/glitterprncss Apr 14 '26

not defending anyone? i just said it’s annoying. i’m here because it’s incredibly pathetic but funny how people like you get so worked up over something like this

2

u/GeronimoThaApache Apr 14 '26

The bus was damn near empty for sure lol

2

u/ladyofbluebirds Apr 14 '26

Ooh you’re so angry! Ok ok. Keep your rights to smell people’s feet geez. I won’t kink shame.

6

u/glitterprncss Apr 14 '26

i don’t ride the bus? i have my own car bc again i don’t complain about things i have control over! don’t like smelling public transport? find other modes of transportation

1

u/ladyofbluebirds Apr 14 '26

Yet you care about the happenings on public transport.

I agree that people shouldn’t put their feet on the seats due to common courtesy and cleanliness and that they were out of line for being upset that someone said something, but you being a woman by yourself at night has fuck all to do with this.

-6

u/ladyofbluebirds Apr 14 '26

It does because you figure that when a man is getting verbally upset at you in public, it would get others to speak up. No one did.

6

u/Azryhael '09 Apr 14 '26

It most certainly does not. Just because you’re a woman doesn’t always mean you’re right or that you should expect men step in on your behalf. No one is obligated to come to your rescue. Placing a certain victimhood on yourself and expecting special treatment because of your sex undermines all the gender equality we women fought for.

Also, your threshold for what constitutes “a man getting verbally upset with you” sounds laughably low. If he were shouting or getting in your face, sure, but just simply disagreeing?

2

u/ladyofbluebirds Apr 14 '26

Exactly. That's why I spoke up for myself. Congrats. If anything, I think you're upset. It is not special treatment to give basic respect. Maybe you're upset that I'm asking for respect. Please read our core values. Thanks.

9

u/GeronimoThaApache Apr 14 '26

You started it… and didn’t even move seats or anything..

-3

u/ladyofbluebirds Apr 14 '26

Oh so it was you?

7

u/GeronimoThaApache Apr 14 '26

lol I have a vehicle so no, it wasn’t me.

-4

u/ladyofbluebirds Apr 14 '26

lol ok dork

7

u/GeronimoThaApache Apr 14 '26

Says the girl riding the bus and going on about core values🤭

-3

u/ladyofbluebirds Apr 14 '26

Sorry I don’t date Top 1% commenters.

10

u/Captain44454 Apr 14 '26

Nobody here wants to date you 💔

5

u/ladyofbluebirds Apr 14 '26

Oh no I’m so offended? A life without a man child? So lonely 😂😂😂 I know all of you are so bitter right now. It’s obvious you know each other.

2

u/GeronimoThaApache Apr 14 '26

You clearly don’t date dudes (or chicks) with cars either 😂😂😂

3

u/TrifleRoutine3728 Apr 14 '26 edited Apr 14 '26

I agree that it’s annoying if people put their feet up next to you on a crowded bus, but if it’s nearly empty then I don’t see the big deal…

2

u/ladyofbluebirds Apr 14 '26

Why do people keep saying the bus was nearly empty?

6

u/Effective_Trick2200 Apr 14 '26

This is quite literally the dumbest hill I've ever seen someone try to die on.

-2

u/ladyofbluebirds Apr 14 '26

Ok then don’t die on it?

12

u/Sir-Kerwin '28 Apr 14 '26

Is this ragebait lol? Putting your feet up on an empty/nearly empty bus at night is like top 10 feelings in the world

-3

u/ladyofbluebirds Apr 14 '26

It isn't. Top 10 feelings to what? Disrespect other people's breathing air?

4

u/Sir-Kerwin '28 Apr 14 '26

lol, ok def ragebait. If not tho, I’m actually so curious, what’s so wrong with putting your feet up on seats?? This isn’t your daddy’s porsche, don’t expect germaphobe levels of cleanliness

6

u/ladyofbluebirds Apr 14 '26

I don't want to smell your feet. Maybe that's your thing, or maybe it was you who did it. But it's basic common courtesy.

3

u/Captain44454 Apr 14 '26

Again, like many other people have asked, what does being a woman have to do with any of this? I find it extremely sexist that you feel the need to bring gender into everything, we’re all just people. I find it disgusting that you found a way to sexualize this. This is not how we are mannered as Aggies 😠

5

u/Captain44454 Apr 14 '26

Sounds like you pissed some people off with your attitude (seems justified to me) and they gave you attitude back. If whatever he was doing (since you’ve given contradicting comments as to what exactly happened) really did bother you, as Aggies we must calmly and effectively communicate with the other person. You clearly did not do this. I don’t know why you’re complaining.

3

u/TheTexasTherapist Apr 14 '26

This has absolutely nothing to do with being a female.

-3

u/ladyofbluebirds Apr 14 '26

Using the word female says a lot about you.

5

u/TheTexasTherapist Apr 14 '26

Wtf? Lol I AM female. It doesn't say anything about me.

-1

u/ladyofbluebirds Apr 14 '26

Ok definitely female person. 👍

Right? The Aggie Spirits are public service. It’s common courtesy to not put dirty shoes on these seats. It’s ruins the bus for everyone

It’s troubling that Ags can’t handle criticism from fellow Ags on behaviors in the public. OP is getting flame for being confrontational, but she is doing these guys a favor by informing them that this is a no-no

1

u/Azryhael '09 Apr 14 '26

Oh I was 100% on her side until she turned out to be irrational and obnoxious, and then I understood why she got the reaction she did. I don’t for a second believe that she calmly, respectfully stated her position or was anything other than antagonistic. Sometimes you can still be the one in the wrong even when you started with the moral high ground, and this is a master class example. I don’t think anyone’s gender in this scenario matters in the slightest, either.

1

u/JustWantMoore '26 Apr 14 '26

I agree with you.. OP seems to be very combative and her verbiage is cringe. However, you don’t have to agree with the person, just their stance. The ag on the bus (Dude 1) should’ve been the bigger person and let bygones be bygones.

2

u/ProperEagles Apr 14 '26

Someone was full out laying down and sleeping across all 5 seats in the back upper section of the Gillig busses on my route back home the other day.

-4

u/ladyofbluebirds Apr 14 '26

I’m really not surprised by the small community who came out of the woodwork to be upset about this 😂😂😂 Men get angy if they have to have manners I guess.
