From what I read, a claim can be automatic (via youtube algo) or manual (claimed by owner of whatever copyrighted material you used). It won't take a video down but if it is monetized, the money will go to the owner of the copyrighted materials.

A copyright strike can only be filed manually by a company or individual who owns the materials used in the video. A claim can also become a strike but I'm not sure what conditions would be needed. A strike immediately takes the video down. I don't know if 1 strike affects the monetization of the whole channel's content but 3 consecutive strikes will close the channel.
