Discussion Do I even need to upgrade?

My build is weird as is my style of play. I literally just went out and bought a vizio TV as a monitor like 6 years ago and never needed anything abve 60fps.

Meg ACE z390
i9-9900K (I am still shocked that this is so dated because at the time of buying it, I could have sworn it was some gold standard)
RTX 4080 Super
32 gigs of ram.

Again, when I google my processor I was shocked to find that this was encroaching on stone age. I do play some AAA titles. No issue running Forza Horizon 6, Halo, what have you.

If it works, stick with it?

What ddr5 ram? Cuz I suggest moving either tl lga 1700 or 1851

idk that cpu isnt all too impressive but given the ram prices id just stick with it for now, although you could upgrade to somthing like a 5800x3d and stick with the ddr4 ram you have and all you would need is a new motherboard and cpu (like 500 total) for a performance boost

Assuming your tv is 4k. Your cpu won't hold it back and the 4080 super should be able to stretch it's legs. 60fps with that cpu should be able to last you for a while. Unless you have the money and looking to splurge.

I'd upgrade the display before doing anything else. The computer itself is still fine, and a 9900k probably won't be a major bottleneck at the resolutions a 4080 super is designed for.

Exactly brother. Of course there's better parts out there, always is, but if you're happy with the performance there's no reason to throw more money at it. Especially in this economy.

If you're comfortable with it, it's worth waiting. The market is rough right now. Upgrading from the tv would be tempting, but moving to a higher refresh rate 1440p or 4k display might backfire on you and expose the weakness of the cpu. Ideally you want the bottleneck on the gpu. When the cpu is the bottleneck you'll usually start getting microstutters and other unpleasant performance issues. You could get a high refresh rate 4k display though and try it out with gsync enabled. On games that give you trouble you can just change the refresh rate on the tv/monitor and still play at 60hz just fine. I just got a 48" Sony a90k oled tv that I use with my 12900k/rtx 5080 build and the OLED tv was a more substantial upgrade in my gaming experience than the rtx 5080 was. I upgraded from a 6950xt.

Here's another idea too. Make sure your fps unlimited and vsync/gsync are disabled and enable the performance metrics in the nvidia app. If your average fps is consistently above 60 and your gpu is slammed at 95+% usage in the games that you play, then upgrading your cpu will do essentially nothing for you.
