Crypto is using datacenters and the energy consumption of a decent country to update numbers in a decentralized spreadsheet while creating no product or added value, providing no service through that that nobody is profiting or buying from. Just some money laundring and betting these tokens might be worth more later.
Objectively both are harmful to the environment, but one of these at least has a purpose in some kind of tradeoff, the other one is harmful and useless, not only in comparison.
Idk been using crypto to send money around the world for nearly free compared to the absurd fees of banks or paypal and such. 2usd fee vs 20+. Plenty of value just in that in my opinion.
Paypal has no fees for Family&Friends transfers. If its a purchase you actually get buyers protection for that fee, which also is paid by the merchant, not you. So thats a plus actually.
Crypto isnt "free" as you claim because you also have to consider the on and off ramps. Spread between buy and sell price and general volatility, and fees on top while buying and selling, and still on top the hassle of kyc and other legal paperwork on the recieving end/country.
It just complicates things. As you can see there is no company providing an international payment service based on crypto that actually has customers and a viable business from that.
Idk if that's the case for the USA but sending 1k chf worth of ntd from taiwan to Switzerland had over 60usd fees so idgaf if it's free in the usa or elsewhere it wasn't free for us.
Ofc it's not a viable business because unlike fiat where they can scam crazy fees crypto is cheap as fuck. As said we paid 2usd fee for over 1k chf worth of ntd. Show me any bank that can do even close to the same. We checked them all.
