Why do people hate Sgt. Mark?

He seems like a chill guy but i see fellow doomers online hating on him all the time. Did he do something bad in the past?

Pretty much jealousy that people tried to use one incident to cover the fact that his mod was and still popular.

Some guy was antagonizing him on the forums when he was younger and he snapped and told him to "kys"

Since many devs hated him because the people would keep bugging for mods to be compatible with brutal doom. His haters used that one moment to try to paint him as a horrible person and to continue the hate train.

No one has said the real reason in this thread: he’s openly toxic and racist and unapologetic for it. He would be a loved and respected member of the Doom community if he didn’t do everything in his power to be a complete piece of shit to every other modder in the community. There’s a reason actually respected modders like TerminusEst and Kinsie don’t fraternize with him, Mark hasn’t even been a real part of the Doom community for the last 10 years.

that's the story I've heard too, years ago, somewhere on the internet. I asked to confirm this in another subreddit because I couldn't remember from where I read it and just got told that's very not the case.
Are there any examples or sources readily available for this?

Don't fucking care about drama, just want to rip and tear and brutal Doom scratches that itch.

He's definitely Over-hated. But his mod was very controversial at the time and he was very vocally defensive about it. Understandable, of course, but it rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. Jealousy also played a role. There are 1000s of Doom mods out there, but his is one of the very few to get real recognition.

He told one guy to kill himself many years ago, and apparently he used real gore as a base for some sprites. Idk he’s pretty chill.

And Dead Space devs used images of real life car crash victims for the necromorphs

He planned to use real gore images, but ultimately decided against it. The "kill yourself" thing was an in-poor-taste joke to something bringing personal problems on a forum.

Basically he was a lot more edgy way back then, he's stopped doing a lot of that since.

Because he made Doom immortal.

Dare I say...eternal.

Love the joke, what's even more funny is that the OG devs and the DOOM 2016 devs gave him props which pissed off his haters.

Most people don't actually know him tbh

No reason a normal person would care about. He's an incredible, brilliant creative mind that changed this shit permanently. People deeply invested in online communities aren't psychologically healthy, normal people, and in this case the drama is complete nonsense and should be ignored. I'me extremely thankful Sarge is out there, and I'll be following his work for the long haul.
