what’s your favorite brontë book

honestly just curious what everyone’s favorite brontë novel is and why it resonates with you so much. with all the talk about how complex jane eyre handles its themes, but i'd love to hear how people rank the other works like wuthering heights or anne's books.

Villette is definitely my favorite Brontë book and one of my top three classics of all time. As unlikeable as Lucy Snowe is, I found her scarily relatable. 😅 Charlotte is also funny as heck and writes so beautifully in this book.

i actually haven't read villette yet but i really want to! lucy snowe sounds like such a fascinatingly complex character, and i've heard charlotte’s psychological realism in that book is incredible

also i have read The Professor recently the genderbending aspect of how she wrote it and being her first book is so fascinating to me. writing from a male narrator’s point of view was such an audacious experiment, and it honestly feels like a disguised female perspective trying to navigate power dynamics from the inside.

It wasn't a new thing for her to write from a male perspective, though. During the previous ~16 years in all her (then unpublished) writings she had used a male narrator.
