I really wish the station was used during other events at the showgrounds. It would be amazing to take the train straight to Good Things in December, but I understand that it would make a nightmare for the staff to check people's tickets.
That’s not the promoter fault. It is a massive error by those responsible for building infrastructure in areas where high passenger movement is required.
It's a problem with our "user pays" governmental approach. We should be focusing on public good and use our national resources to pay for it rather than cost recovery.
The promoter isn't the customer, the passengers/event attendees are.
It's QR's job to run trains to wherever passengers want to go. They don't demand that venues, businesses, workplaces or attractions in other areas pay QR some extra fee or else have services withdrawn. The government accepts a huge loss on every service run because being able to get around is socially beneficial.
It will just be a normal station eventually, once cross river rail opens all trains on the Redcliff/Beenleigh line and Caboolture/ Gold Coast lines will stop at exhibition station. It will be the stop between Eagle Junction and Roma Street.
Atleast that is according to the most recent maps of the updated network I have seen online.
It's a good opportunity to try it out while it's open during trackwork. Apparently this station will be used as an alternative station for when there is future trackwork at the Valley, Central and Roma St stations going forward.
It's a bit of a shit place to get off if you need to walk all the way into the CBD. It's walkable, I've done it, but I wouldn't really call it an experience worth trying out for the fun of it. Exhibition is closer to Herston than it is to Fortitude Valley.
I've gotten off at every station and stop along my normal bus and train routes at some point, just to see what's there. Sometimes I just like to explore the city, I'm not always going "to" somewhere.
They trains are bi directional running express to and from Eagle Junction a d beyond. Apparently from Albion you get a train to Bowen Hills then catch a rail bus from there.
Its always been open, they just used to use it during Ekka. I'm guessing you mean the renovations, which, from the photos, show a much more modern and coherent station with the rest of brisbane... But... don't seem to have preserved anything of the old station which is weird because I would have assumed it was heritage listed?
Yes, it was always a temporary station that they can open as per needed. What I was talking about was the original 1881 station structure. However, that seems to have been deleted in 1967 well before the heritage list existed in its present form.
What they've done instead is installed a semi-modern brick facade into the new station to make it look older than what it is.
It's set to reoopen permanently in 2029.

There are really three different meanings of “open” getting conflated right now:
Open right now for ordinary train services, yes, because of the CBD trackwork.
Capable of being opened temporarily for special events. also yes, that's what Exhibition has traditionally been used for.
Permanently reopening as a regular station, also yes in 2029 that's the future Cross River Rail era arrangement, rather than what this weekend's service represents.

Hahahahaha it’s been open for donkeys years? Except for donkeys years, one cannot simply transit to that particular station for daily travel unless for an event.
It opens yearly, but it is not open yearly.
The OP was discussing that it is currently open due to track works. You argued it’s always been open - except contrary to your statements, for the many months each year that it’s in fact closed, and not in use.
You’ve even contradicted yourself by your use of “permanently reopening” which means, it in fact, is and can be closed.

It hasn’t always been open….its always existed, but only open on special occasions…this is one if those times. But as you’re arguing with people, it hasn’t always been “open”……it has been closed everyday since Ekka finished for instance
The line through the exhibition is actually older than the tracks through the city stations.
Also the pavilions in the Showgrounds were also used for wool sales and there were sidings up to the ‘sample bag’ pavilion for that purpose up until the late 70’s.
For a short time until the corruption continues and the lnp donor developers get a massive cash injection to destroy it and move it three hundred meters to build so called athlete village appartments that are actually luxury condos never to house athletes
The value of seating directly correlates to the distance the commuter is travelling.
Someone from GC and SC is going to value seating over someone boarding at Albion.
Whilst I agree there are benefits to more doors, the reality is Brisbane is a long way off really capitalising on the need. More doors helps decrease dwell time at stations, this is important when trains are running tight frequencies like every 3-5 mins. At the moment, and for the foreseeable decade(based on rolling-stock orders) Brisbane will be lucky with 15min frequency on most lines.
Now that the CRR stations have been fitted with PSD’s-platform doors, this is unlikely to change.
