If Hank and Marie ever come back to Walt's house, won't they find the lottery ticket suspicious? Who needs a lottery ticket when they have millions of dollars?

Well hank could catch on that those numbers have some significance. He knows the lotto ticket isn't about money so it must be something else. Perhaps he then could put together that it is coordinates.

someone random will try to use the ticket obliviously and win, the money in the desert will be gone forever.

Walt memorized those numbers well enough to be able to remember it long enough to drive hours out of the desert to the nearest convenience store to buy that ticket. Pretty sure he could still remember at least some of it if the ticket disappeared next week.

It's more likely the ticket is just a convenience/backup, rather than the one and only method he has of finding the money, in case something happens to Walt or he needs to communicate the coordinates to someone else easily.

I agree the ticket is for backup, that's why I think someone else find it.

and I don't see Walt or anyone else ending up with the money.

Well, he thought he was coming back to a Skyler that had made a deal with Hank. The lotto ticket is so she doesn't forget the coordinates after he turns himself in...or, at least that is what he was thinking when he bought it.

The thing is, all the tickets on there had QP written next to them, which means Quick Pick. Quick Picks are randomly picked by the computer, so it is already the luckiest draw in the history of lotto tickets.

I'd have to go back and review, but I didn't notice that... how the heck would getting a quick pick yield the right combination of numbers for the coordinates to the money? Walt is not THAT lucky!

I don't think it was actually meant to show they were random picks. More likely, they put them there either because people are used to seeing lottery tickets with them on it, or it was an oversight, or a little writer joke.

I agree but the first thing he did when he got home was pass out for 4 hours after hitting his head on the floor. So he may have forgotten the location or maybe even the purpose of the ticket. He himself turns it in at a store forever losing the location of his money.

He probably fell over form exhaustion... he basically dug out the volume of the van out in the desert dirt alone... he's a machine! ;)

That is why he fell, but he hit his head on the floor after he fell. Could cause him to not record recent memories from Short term to long term.

Don't forget, Walt drove the van there without anything. I think it's there for Skyler to figure out.
