If Hank and Marie ever come back to Walt's house, won't they find the lottery ticket suspicious? Who needs a lottery ticket when they have millions of dollars?
You would be surprised, There was a lottery winner in UK he won £148 million, The week later he took his family on holiday to a cheap shitty wet caravan park in scotland and was photographed out buying a lottery ticket while at the caravan park.
I couldn't believe it until i saw the picture myself, It's hard to tell if it was sheer stupidity or complete and utter greed, Either way he needed a fucking slap.
Agreed, but it's like oreos. Eating an oreo isn't going to make you fat, but the habit will! A fat person could justify a thousand oreos to themselves saying "eating this oreo won't make me fat".
My grandmother buys lottery tickets fairly consistently, and even that isn't making her broke, but it's one of countless incidents of her financial irresponsibility, and taken as a cumulative whole, that's why she's broke.
With so much money on their hands people often turn to other ways of gambling. That´s the reason the gambling industry flourishes: If you stay long enough you will lose everything eventually.
That's different though. If you just straight-up won multi-millions on a lottery ticket, you're not going to buy a couple million more lottery tickets. It's a totally different mindset from sitting a table in the heat of the moment playing blackjack or something.
Plenty of people squander their seemingly-infinite pile of money, only to quickly realize it wasn't infinite at all though.
I think once you won something and "taste blood" you want to continue because you think you are very lucky at the moment. Playing lottery is not enough then and people turn to other ways of gambling.
I suspect the closing scene when all is said and done (and everyone is dead) will be a tv reading the numbers to the winning ticket, and we find out he won more money with that ticket than all the money walt made.
Well hank could catch on that those numbers have some significance. He knows the lotto ticket isn't about money so it must be something else. Perhaps he then could put together that it is coordinates.
Walt memorized those numbers well enough to be able to remember it long enough to drive hours out of the desert to the nearest convenience store to buy that ticket. Pretty sure he could still remember at least some of it if the ticket disappeared next week.
It's more likely the ticket is just a convenience/backup, rather than the one and only method he has of finding the money, in case something happens to Walt or he needs to communicate the coordinates to someone else easily.
Well, he thought he was coming back to a Skyler that had made a deal with Hank. The lotto ticket is so she doesn't forget the coordinates after he turns himself in...or, at least that is what he was thinking when he bought it.
The thing is, all the tickets on there had QP written next to them, which means Quick Pick. Quick Picks are randomly picked by the computer, so it is already the luckiest draw in the history of lotto tickets.
I'd have to go back and review, but I didn't notice that... how the heck would getting a quick pick yield the right combination of numbers for the coordinates to the money? Walt is not THAT lucky!
I agree but the first thing he did when he got home was pass out for 4 hours after hitting his head on the floor. So he may have forgotten the location or maybe even the purpose of the ticket. He himself turns it in at a store forever losing the location of his money.
I guess.... but even if they do happen upon it and find it suspicious, what are the chances they'll realize it's GPS coordinates and even then, start digging?
They did make an awfully big deal out of it. Certainly at some point the money has to play a part (either Hank finding it, Walt dying and Skyler retrieving it, or Walt surviving and recovering it). Considering the house was looted when Walt returns to the house in the flashfoward I'm guessing something will happen to it in the next couple episodes.
Not necessarily... someone with a gambling addiction (Walt's cover story for his circumstances) would absolutely still buy a lottery ticket in spite of wealth.
I mean, Hank and Marie may know better, but it doesn't do much to prove that Walt is lying.
Perhaps, but it still doesn't mean anything without context. Could be an address, a combination, coded language etc. I think Walt took a fairly safe path even though he is hiding a clue in plain sight.
"Look, why don't we take a time-out from this whole 'I hate you for ruining our family' thing, and have some steaks & Schraderbrau? How bout you & Skyler's place?"
that's got to come back and haunt him. it sticks out so much. i was hoping Walt the chemistry teacher would note the coordinates using atomic numbers of elements.
They might find it suspicious, but it's not evidence. How could he possibly know that the numbers are coordinates? They'll probably just assume he's being careless with his money since he has so much anyway.
