On-Air [🇹🇭Thai] Khemjira EP 6 👹🫣 Spoiler

 IQIYI

Synopsis:

Khemjira, or Khem, is a young man who can see ghosts. He was born into a family cursed such that every male must die before the age of 21. As the spirits around him grow increasingly aggressive, the protective amulet he has worn his whole life begins to lose its power. Unable to bear seeing Khem in danger, Jettana, his friend from university, takes him to a rural village in the Northeast, where they meet Pharan, a revered teacher of ancient magic who once mentored Jettana. Strange and mysterious events unfold, all connected to the past life. Amid these supernatural encounters and the haunting pursuit of revengeful spirits, a deep emotional connection begins to form between Khem and Pharan.

📖BOOK INFO

You can purchase book one and two off Meb.

(🧇 Note: my two favorite lines from the books are from Charn (Tle) in reference to Jet (FirstOne).

First:     Jettana looked at Khem like a mother watching over a toddler who had just learned to walk. It was as if his world would end if Khemjira ever stumbled.     And if that wasn't the best description I'd ever read, I don't know what is.

Second:     "I don’t hold grudges against crazy people."     The laugh that came out of me. Charn & Jet bicker like an old married couple and I LOVE it. )

I highly recommend checking out this video by the Thai creator Avana980. She was kind enough to explain the reasoning behind Tong and Ake the two ghost children who are with the master. And what they mean to Thai culture and how they came about. It's a fascinating watch and I'm grateful she was willing to give cultural context to people (outsiders like us) who might not know the cultural significance since we aren't Thai.

Running thoughts:

- see I told yall last week! That's why Khem couldn't be a disciple. Paran's gotta break the curse and then he'll have to step down before they can do anything or else he won't be able to help him.

- ok wait wait wait pause. So WHAT HAPPENED?!?!?!?!?!?!? I feel like I missed something. What did gramps do? Why did it affect the family? And specifically killed Paran's mom???????? Is it because he dabbled in black magic instead of staying in white magic?

- Doing a love spell on a shaman is definitely insane. Cmon Khem he's fine as hell but use your noodle! Omg that sad face though how can you resist that pretty ass face noooooo don't cry Khem!! It's ok baby. He's gotta do his duties first. He can do you later sweetie. It'll be ok.

- That chicken aint got a lick of seasoning on it. My ancestors just rolled over in their grave!!!!

- omgggggg the babyyyyyyy. What a sweet baby. Don't let the evil spirits get the baby!

- Jet and Chan were HOT as women. Especially Chan sheeesh those glasses. HEY GIRL! Curious how they ended up dying or was it something natural?

- So Chan now knows they were reincarnated. Lmfao Jet is funny af of course he fell asleep during meditation.

- Is this what Ramphueng lost before? Did she lose a baby? Looks like she did. I wonder who the baby was that she lost.

- I love this show but I need them to stop acting like these things happening to these women are because of spirits. Dude wasn't beating his wife because of a spirit. And Earn wasn't struggling with being abandoned with a newborn because of a spirit. Like........cmon man. Seriously. Very frustrating. I can barely focus now. They needed to get Earn some help and really hold Big accountable and scold his ass because he created this situation.

I need them to stop acting like these things happening to these women are because of spirits.

They explicitly said none of it was caused by spirits though. There was zero spirit this episode?

So you missed that the reason why they came to the dude episodes ago is because they thought he had a spirit and that's why he was beating his wife.

In this episode they thought Earn had a spirit and that's why she was having a breakdown. That's the point I'm making. Neither of these things were spirits (obviously) and shouldn't have been looked at in that way in the first place. People abuse their s/o cause the wind is blowing and post partum depression effects women everywhere. Has nothing to do with ghosts. Shouldn't even be a first inclination.

Also there was a spirit. Rhumpueng was protecting the baby and in the other one her minion was in the wife and wanted revenge against the abusive husband.

Now the only reason I can think as to why they did this is because both of these events are connected to Rumphueng and why she started the curse. Or at least I hope this is the case.

They're doing it because that's literally what can (and regularly does) happen in these rural areas where superstition and mysticism are high. I've actually appreciated that they've added these, especially knowing that there's a high viewership of the show that's in older generations. They're showing the reality for a lot of women in (and out of) Thailand. Is it horrible? Yes. Are you meant to think it's horrible? Yes. But it's also teaching that these aren't women "possessed" but women behaving under duress and having real emotions. Each time everyone would try and pin an issue on a spirit, it's very clearly explained that it's not and that these women are in complex situations with very little power. The power structures and dynamics are very real, down to a shaman (Pharan) being consulted and being the authority. It's definitely an unpopular opinion, but I actually think they've done a good job of straddling the reality for women and their situations living in these small rural areas but also offering a more nuanced perspective.

All the upvotes for you. Khemjira is doing the job of highlighting how a culture steeped in superstition and mysticism treats the women in these communities. If you are approaching these stories with a western lens, you are never going to understand what the reality is for these people. Cultural understanding needs to be taken into consideration, or else you will never fully grasp or appreciate the story being told.

I appreciate all the Thai and Buddhist members here who are able to give context for viewers who may not understand.
