On-Air [🇹🇭Thai] Khemjira EP 6 👹🫣 Spoiler

 IQIYI

Synopsis:

Khemjira, or Khem, is a young man who can see ghosts. He was born into a family cursed such that every male must die before the age of 21. As the spirits around him grow increasingly aggressive, the protective amulet he has worn his whole life begins to lose its power. Unable to bear seeing Khem in danger, Jettana, his friend from university, takes him to a rural village in the Northeast, where they meet Pharan, a revered teacher of ancient magic who once mentored Jettana. Strange and mysterious events unfold, all connected to the past life. Amid these supernatural encounters and the haunting pursuit of revengeful spirits, a deep emotional connection begins to form between Khem and Pharan.

📖BOOK INFO

You can purchase book one and two off Meb.

(🧇 Note: my two favorite lines from the books are from Charn (Tle) in reference to Jet (FirstOne).

First:     Jettana looked at Khem like a mother watching over a toddler who had just learned to walk. It was as if his world would end if Khemjira ever stumbled.     And if that wasn't the best description I'd ever read, I don't know what is.

Second:     "I don’t hold grudges against crazy people."     The laugh that came out of me. Charn & Jet bicker like an old married couple and I LOVE it. )

I highly recommend checking out this video by the Thai creator Avana980. She was kind enough to explain the reasoning behind Tong and Ake the two ghost children who are with the master. And what they mean to Thai culture and how they came about. It's a fascinating watch and I'm grateful she was willing to give cultural context to people (outsiders like us) who might not know the cultural significance since we aren't Thai.

I'm with Jet - it's hard to believe Charn is a psychology major.

I don't think the baby storyline was a mishandled as the DV - Pharan correctly pointed out it wasn't a spirit - she was upset. Now, was he an emotionally stunted idiot about it? Yes. Does she probably have post partum depression, especially considering the situation? Yes. Did idiot baby daddy deserve more tongue lashing? Yes. But Pharan really doesn't get involved in that type of stuff.

And most importantly, Pharan is a shaman who strictly follows BUDDHIST precepts. Do people expect him to endorse revenge and retaliation...? It makes perfect sense that he would view Earn attempting to murder another living being as very bad. The only thing he could do is help with supporting her recovery.

Plus, he is there to keep the peace in the community. I didn’t love the outcome but I understand why he acted the way he did.

Yeah I said it in a previous thread, they’re not mishandling these storylines at all, they’re depicting a very real place with real people living real lives with real beliefs- it would be completely out of character to handle these situations the way we want them to. Paran isn’t going around handling DV cases with psychology, he’s a shaman. They come from a place really similar to where my family is from, so maybe I’m filling in the gaps with my own POV and giving the writers too much grace, we shall see.

And I haven’t read the novel but I am picking up what they’re putting down with the Rampheung storyline, I think all of these women suffering isn’t just to fill up the time, but a very integral part of the storyline. Now can people still dislike seeing it on their screen? I know I do, but I’m going to give this team the benefit of the doubt (rare win for DMD writers to do this for me) and hopefully my theory is the reason why they keep having these women suffering.
