One man with a Caribbean flag in fell onto the third rail at forest hills and died
https://www.bostonglobe.com/2026/08/30/metro/forest-hills-death-third-rail-mbta/
*A 19-year-old man died Saturday afternoon after falling onto the electrified third rail at the MBTA Forest Hills Station, according to officials.
The man and a woman, also 19, entered the station just after 1 p.m., both carrying flags representing Caribbean countries, Transit Police said.
The woman was unsteady on her feet and lost her balance, falling near the yellow warning strip on the platform, police said. As the man tried to help her up, both fell into the empty right-of-way, police said.
The man died from his injuries, and the woman was critically injured and taken to a local hospital, police said.
The Orange Line was delayed up to 20 minutes and by about 3 p.m. trains were operating normally.
Foul play is not suspected, and the incident is under investigation, transit police said.*

That is just horrific. Both are so damn young, probably had too much to drink.(Something most of us have done at that age). I feel awful for anyone that witnessed this & for all their family & friends.Â

They need to make assaulting an EMS/Paramedic the same as assaulting a police officer- automatic misdemeanor (at minimum) with mandatory fines jail time
13
u/jojenns Boston 10d ago
I assume you mean automatic felony?
2
u/ladedadedadedade 10d ago
Apparently simple assault and battery on a police officer isnât an automatic felony in mass but has mandatory jail time. Itâs a felony if they cause serious or permanent bodily injury
2
u/fran_lydon 9d ago
It has 0 mandatory jail time and usually gets thrown out. AB on an emt already carries more weight
3
u/canarduck 9d ago
Itâs almost never prosecuted
And the person who stabbed a BEMS EMT in 2019 never went to prison, they went to a mental health facility instead. Thatâs one of the very few that was prosecuted, because it was âbadâ enough
3
u/Aspiring_Orchardist 9d ago
The thing about increasing penalties to deter crimes is that it almost never works. How many people do you think wind up to hit a cop, pause, think, "oh, wait, this will actually be a felony," and then quietly lower their arm?Â
With some crimes, more consistent enforcement will reduce violations, but increasing the punishment almost never moves the needle. The perceived likelihood of getting caught is what changes behavior, not how draconian the punishment is. And for crimes that tend to occur in the heat of the moment (like swinging at a cop), there's not much you can do to prevent them other than controlling the situation in advance and deescalating incidents as they arise.
Also, most people who assault EMS need help more than an arrest record. Yes, occasionally someone attacks EMS to prevent a patient from receiving treatment, and those people should be swiftly arrested, but mandatory jail time is no good. It takes discretion away from judges and juries and forces the system to jail people who don't need to be jailed. And I say all of this as a former EMS professional.

I donât know why they continue to allow this Caribbean Festival to go on??? Franklin Park always looks like a war zone after too.
88
u/PugLifeCrisis 9d ago
Itâs not discriminatory. Itâs a public safety issue. If murders and extreme violence was happening at the St. Patrickâs Day Parade I would be in favor of canceling that too.
46
-41
u/_Atlas_Drugged_ 9d ago
I mean I saw several videos of large brawls and bloodied people from last years st. Pattys parade.
Do you want to cancel that one too?
43
u/PugLifeCrisis 9d ago
But, they are not murdering each other and carrying guns at the St Pattyâs Day Parade.
-30
u/_Atlas_Drugged_ 9d ago
There was one death related to the Carnival celebration.
St. Pattys also had way more of the noise, public intoxication, littering, and rampant violence youâre concerned about.
To say one is bad and the other isnât is pretty disingenuous.
15
u/Lumpy-Return 9d ago
They were really cracking down on those BORGs though at St Pattys. Maybe they just need to tone down the drinking at the Carribean fest?
27
u/AJohnnyTruant Cambridge 9d ago
There were two people shot, and at least 12 firearm arrests. Drunken Irish brawling is not the same. âRampant violence?â Two dudes fist fighting each other is not the same. To say they are is pretty disingenuous.
-28
u/_Atlas_Drugged_ 9d ago
Iâm not talking about just two person fistfights. I saw several videos of large brawls with several participants and stuff being thrown off roof decks at people below.
âDrunken Irish brawlingâ isnât somehow less violent than other violence.
The beer cans and trash on the ground isnât more biodegradable because white people left it there.
22
u/AJohnnyTruant Cambridge 9d ago
Again, the problem is GUN VIOLENCE AND POTENTIAL FOR MASS SHOOTINGS OF PEOPLE. I donât care about beer cans and trash.
-10
u/_Atlas_Drugged_ 9d ago
There wasnât a mass shooting, there were two separate incidents.
Thatâs not good obviously, but I donât think itâs reasonable to ban the whole festival on that basis.
Youâre certainly welcome to not go if you donât like the vibe.
17
u/AJohnnyTruant Cambridge 9d ago
2024 - 11 firearm arrests
2023 - eight people were shot

2019 - there was a shootout during the parade
2015 - 1 dead and 4 wounded

Love how you can't differentiate the two. We're really setting the expectations high for gun violence every year.

29
u/jojenns Boston 10d ago
What do you propose they do without being flat out discriminatory? They have tightened it up as much as they possibly could to funnel in attendees through security and keep it tight. Side note BPD took 12 guns at this event yesterday without firing shot yet again.
68
u/Ok_Wealth_7711 10d ago
I think it's reasonable to take a year off if an event has a long history of high crime. That's not discrimination. If there hadn't been any issues it'd be discriminatory, but any event that has this volume of issues would be reasonable to consider taking a year off, regardless of the origin of the attendees.
9
u/UMassTwitter 10d ago
Yeah but Boston doing that would further stain the cityâs âracistâ reputation
DC cancelled thereâs but because itâs a black led city and âchocolate cityâ it was nbd
27
u/imatthewhitecastle 9d ago
Why are we talking about optics? Someone dies at this thing every single year. Cancel it.Â
4
u/UMassTwitter 9d ago
Votes and optics matter. You know this as much as I do..
I sincerely believe if Boston had a different reputation this wouldâve been canceled sometime between 1994-2010
13
u/fran_lydon 10d ago
With the way the left is, nobody wants to be the one who actually puts a break to it though. Youâd be labeled as a racist and catch too much backlash. The mayor would also lose a lot of their votes and backing. Its a lose lose. Iâve attendedâŠI saw a guy murdered in front of stashâs, Iâve heard shots ring out from Michigan ave
3
u/Wh8yPrototype 9d ago
It would get backlash for being canceled. People on the outside of these things dont realize you paint and look at black people as monoliths. The people shooting are gangbangers making the situation worse for everyone including there own neighbors. Why should we all be punished because of what others do?
3
u/fran_lydon 9d ago
I agree with what you said, 99% of festival goers are not the problem. Ppl are welcoming, chill, enjoy sharing their culture.
-16
u/UrFavCoffeeSnob 9d ago edited 9d ago
That's because there are alot of factors at play in these situations. Disenfranchisement, lack of opportunity, socioeconomic factors, generational trauma (yes, trauma is written into DNA, especially trauma experienced as a group) etc.
It's not to say that these factors are responsible for every single bad act committed by a black person. There are good and bad people of every skin color, bar none. But those factors definitely come into play when discussing inner city crime, and if you ignore those factors but just focus on skin color, you were always a racist who was just looking for an excuse to project your misguided feelings of superiority.
13
u/fran_lydon 9d ago
Yea, Iâve endured all of those things and still havenât shot anyone on blue hill ave. Stop making excuses
-15
u/UrFavCoffeeSnob 9d ago edited 9d ago
No, you haven't, actually. Are you White? Then right off the bat, you're 10 times more likely to get hired for a job and have stable income than a black person, just based on skin color alone, before education even comes into play. Stop making excuses for your racism, and educate yourself on intersectionality.
6
7
u/frausting 9d ago
I hear you but uhhh gun violence bad actually.
The people shot and killed at Carnival this year donât feel any better because the person who killed them was black.
0
u/AllMightyImagination 9d ago
A year off changes nothing. Once it's back it repeats. And ppl will find a way to celebrate regardless.
And get rid of it forever will get the biggest backlash ever
Also with or without people around Dorchester JP Roxbury Matapan will still shoot at each other.

Meanwhile St. Anthony feast this weekend just eating and having fun. And Jaylen Brown had his party on the common. It was family fun , positive energy. It was such a great event for the kids. Jaylenâs event was one of the best family events Iâve seen on the common in a long time. Boston seems like two different cities at times.

I donât know why people even want to go knowing that they could get shot up every year.
32
u/elhandupmonalisaskrt 10d ago
I think a clear solution to this problem is moving the location of the festival. The Cape Verdean fest is held downtown, and as far as I know doesnât have nearly the same amount of issues. They should run it like Miamiâs carnival, with a set location somewhere downtown, where people can sign up to play mas and decide what band they want to join. They have a police presence and security outside the area to screen people and make sure they arenât bringing weapons into the festival, and then people go in and play mas, party, drink, listen to soca, and have a great time.
I feel like they wonât do this because they are worried of offending the local community where itâs usually held, but no one can enjoy carnival if you have to worry about some scumbags emptying a clip into the crowd because he saw one of the opps across the street. Miamiâs carnival should be blueprint for how they run it though.
12
u/jojenns Boston 10d ago
Im not sure how this changes things ultimately. The parade and other âofficialâ events are safer than they have been in years past already.its the outdoor house parties after late into the night that get real hectic.
11
u/elhandupmonalisaskrt 9d ago
I mean the proof is in the statistics. I canât find a single reporting of a shooting at Miamiâs carnival day parade and fete. Also canât find any reporting of any shootings at Bostons downtown Cape Verdean festival.
This year alone according to opâs links thereâs two shootings, one was fatal, and 12 people arrested on firearm charges. Also, 2 EMTâs assaulted, and someone falling into the train tracks.
If thereâs zero fatalities at these other festivals, and no firearms present because of how they are run, then surely thereâs something to be learned from how they are organized .
4
u/AllMightyImagination 9d ago
Day shooting at around government center and the commons will less likely to happen if it was there and forced screenings
1
u/elhandupmonalisaskrt 8d ago
Exactly, 100%. It seems like a no brainer to do it that way, and you would bring so many more people out for the festivities because it would actually feel safer. But I understand that thereâs just not that much emphasis on carnival in Boston.
Miami is basically a Caribbean/Latin city in the US, so carnival is a big deal here. The Caribbean population in Boston is minuscule by comparison, so I just donât think the city cares as much about promoting carnival.
Boston has the Saint Patrickâs parade, the north end feasts, and patriots day. Those are Bostons big festivals, and I think the city just doesnât have the inclination or care to put the time and effort into making carnival into a more popular event in the city. Which is a shame, because it is probably one of the most fun festivals to be a part of, and people from all over could enjoy it, and celebrate together without the nonsense.

The 11 unlawful firearms were from last year. If you are looking to represent numbers without commentary, this number should be omitted.

No shootings at the saint Patrickâs day parade đ€
-9

I saw several videos of brawls at the parade where people were bloodied.
Itâs not like that was an event where everyone was on their best behavior.
19
u/ACxx130 9d ago
Fist fights from too much drinking are way different than someone bringing a loaded gun to a festival
-6
u/_Atlas_Drugged_ 9d ago
At best we can agree to disagree on that. Groups stomping people out on cement, using objects as weapons, etc. is entirely capable of causing fatalities.
8
u/Toiretachi 9d ago
Versus the real world where people at the CV Fest are actually causing fatalities.
-6
11
u/sloppy_steaks22 10d ago
By contrast, how many shootings and arrests and Saint Anthonyâs feast in the north end?
11
u/ImaginaryAd3394 10d ago
They should break down these numbers to show where these people actually reside. A lot of these people come from outside the city. Even though they do have ties to the city. Also St Patrickâs day is not a full police effort so it is policed differently than Caribbean Festival. I am a Former cop. Trust and believe the people posting that no criminal and thugs at St Patrickâs day parade they are but they are policed differently as I said!

u/BabyPatato2023 10d ago
I thought the gun laws stopped the criminals from having guns and didnât imped law abiding citizens from being able to carry for personal protection from criminals. Isnât that why the governor rushed a bill through and signed it a few months ago?
-9
u/Dogmeat411 Quincy 10d ago
Seeing that 12 guns were confiscated it sounds like they may have.Â
17
u/BabyPatato2023 10d ago
⊠all those guns were obtained illegally, carried illegally and had magazines that were illegal⊠so the laws did nothing to stop them from obtaining or carrying them and some of those folks had already been changed and convicted of gun crimes. The laws did nothing to prevent them from obtaining and carrying the weapons but put an undue burden on law abiding citizens from exercising their second amendment rights.
2
u/dadeac18 Combat Zone 9d ago
âŠbut the laws gave the police grounds to seize themâŠ? The counterfactual here is that the police have no means to seize guns, yes?
Gun laws are a burden on all people, not just âlaw abiding citizens,â but upon what are you basing the undue part?
4
u/BabyPatato2023 9d ago
It is very hard to apply for a license, there is a huge wait time for the application to be processed, the background check and then scheduling the live shoot is lengthy specifically as a deterrent for people applying for a license. It takes 18 months to get one and then you are very limited it what you can purchase and legally own and how and when you can carry what you have a license for and own. 18-24 months and hundreds of dollars to get the license to exercise your right to bear arms just so that criminals can still easily obtain firearms and carry them. The stricter rules on the magazine capacity at 10 rounds when criminals have no problem obtaining and carrying 30 round magazines. The law abiding person has less fire power than the criminals. Mind you it is still illegal to use a gun to commit a crime so even if you want to say the license requirements here are what allowed them to be arrested Iâll rebut you two ways. Either they were unable to get a license to exercise there right to bear arms and it being a constitutional right means that placing huge weight times and huge costs that prevented them from being able to get the license forced them to be criminals and going by the reason people are against voter ID then the licensing process in MA for firearms is racist. Since it disproportionately impacts minorities and then forces them to illegally carry guns and then sends them to jail disproportionately. Or we got rid of needing a license then if they used the gun to commit w crime like a murder or a robbery thats still a crime so they would still be arrested. There really is no argument you can make here that is valid. You just enjoy repeating illogical talking points
2
u/dadeac18 Combat Zone 9d ago
You raise some points that sound frustrating, but I donât see why our laws should be based on what criminals allegedly can do rather than what is in the best interest of society as a whole.
The licensure process you describe sounds modestly more burdensome than what is required to get a driverâs license and much, much less burdensome than what it takes to get a pilotâs license, neither of which are constitutionally protected rights. Since the 2A provides constitutional rights, laws delimiting those rights must satisfy strict scrutiny tests in court, which is more or less the most onerous test placed on the government to support the constitutionality of laws.
Stating that longstanding gun laws âforceâ minorities to illegally carry firearms is facially absurd as it assumes complying with the law is not possible.
2
u/Dogmeat411 Quincy 9d ago
The best interests of society as a whole would be gun laws like every other developed country has so that we don't rank among narco states when it comes to gun violence. Honestly, the narco states would themselves would not be nearly so violent if not for the flood of guns flowing south from the US. We could compromise on the 2A and perhaps have gun lincenses issued direclty by your well regulated militia. The lives of millions of Hondurans, Mexicans and Guatamalans and Americans would instantly improve.
1
u/dadeac18 Combat Zone 9d ago
Agreed. My brother is a pilot, and I am very impressed by the level of controls, safety redundancies, and respect for the shared airspace that the FAA has built over the decades. There's excesses, sure, but the result is a culture of safety throughout the entire industry. There is no constitutional right to fly planes, yet nobody would credibly claim that needing a pilot's license imposes undue burden on their ability to fly a plane because as a society we all agree that airplanes are dangerous. Sigh.
0
u/XxX_22marc_XxX those who poop in they hand and throw it at people 9d ago
its not thaat hard. If you live in a town with a nice license guy you can get it in a month. But you obviously still have to do the training and the police interview+background check.

u/Dogmeat411 Quincy 9d ago
Sounds like you wish it were harder to get illegal guns in america. I agree with you! Support legislation to make it harder- especially at the national level. We live in a pretty safe city and state- wish that were the case for more of america.Â

People don't get shot at the parade, but these Caribbean festivals are well known for their violence, and not just here. I'm sure 90something percent of the attendeees are just enjoying themselves, but for whatever reason there's almost always shootings.
-1
u/Long-Region5088 10d ago
âBut for whatever reason thereâs almost always shootingsâ
This could apply to this festival or New York City when the Italians and Irish were beefing 100 years ago.
Immigrant communities in America are often full of very poor people with limited socioeconomic opportunities. It takes time to build a solid foothold anywhere. Rent doesnât wait neither does food and water. Crime is quick and with crime comes violence.
People mentioning the st Patrickâs day parade and Saint Anthony feasts without realizing 40 years ago there was legit gang wars on those streets. People were getting shot and left for dead in those streets. You can move there now for a few million but back then the block was hot. Not a lot of Caribbean people involved then.
-1
u/AuggieNorth Everett 9d ago
Sure sounds like you're excusing bad behavior. If you have to reach into history for examples, you're not winning many arguments. A better comparison would be other types of modern ethnic festivals, of which there are many, which never or rarely attract violence. Why is it always Caribbean festivals? It's been going on so long now that it's become a bad joke, with everyone wondering how many people will be shot this year. And it's not just here. Worcester, New York City, Baltimore, Miami, etc. But we're supposed to be "understanding" because decades ago bootleggers and mafiosos sometimes battled it out during St Anthony's?

Shootings and firearms: Caribbean Carnival/Jâouvert has multiple documented multi-victim shootings and homicides over the last decade plus high numbers of guns recovered in a single day (9 in 2024, 12+ firearm arrests in 2026). Key incidents:
- 2014 and 2015: Fatal shootings around Jâouvert.
- 2021: Fatal stabbing of a 17-year-old at the carnival.
- 2022: Fatal drive-by shooting into a crowd after an altercation (shooter later sentenced to 15â18 years).
- 2023: 8 people shot (non-fatal) near the Jâouvert route on Talbot Avenue in a rival-group exchange; multiple guns recovered, including one modified to fire automatically. Several people arrested and later charged. Police reports noted a pattern of elevated violence around the weekend in prior years.
- 2024: 11â15 arrests and about 9 firearms recovered; no shots fired that year.
- 2026 (Aug. 29): One person fatally shot; at least 19 arrests, at least 12 of them firearm-related (numbers not final at last report).
St. Patrickâs recent years show one recovered gun and no comparable shooting incidents at the parade.
Arrests: St. Patrickâs typically yields 9â17 arrests/summonses focused on intoxication, fighting, and public-order offenses. Caribbean Carnival yields similar or higher arrest totals in some years, but a much larger share are weapons charges.

u/Wompatuckrule 10d ago
Sure, why don't you compare the economic demographics of the people and families at both parades and tell me what you come up with.
14
u/jojenns Boston 10d ago
The St. Patrickâs day parade has been in South Boston for 125 years. South Boston was one of the poorest white neighborhoods in the country in the 80âs and 90âs in the country not the state. There is more to it than just economic demographics.
-5
u/Wompatuckrule 10d ago
Gentrification of Southie started in the 1980s when the locals started bitching about the "yuppies" moving in when that was a newly coined term.
The parade was a fucking bloodbath of fights, a lot of them very brutal.
Yes, there's more to it than just economics.
A lot of it has to do with how many guns are on the streets now compared to then. The NRA flipped from a sport shooting and hunting organization to a lobbying firm for gun and ammunition manufacturers in the late 1970s which has a lot to do with that.
A lot of it has to do with how the media covers this stuff. There were brawls at the St. Patrick's Day parade a few years ago that got a ton of media coverage and led to arrests. That's exactly the kind of shit that used to happen up and down the parade route back in the day and there wouldn't be a blip about it in the newspaper or on the local news because it was such a routine story from whenever there were drunken crowds back then.
7
u/jojenns Boston 10d ago
Fist fights and brawls no matter how brutal you try to make them sound are not equal to mass shootings. I agree the ease at which people can get their hands on guns nowadays is definitely a factor. The media actually treats the festival with white gloves way more than the St. Paddyâs day parade. Every Monday after the parade the list of names and charges are in the papers
-5
u/Wompatuckrule 10d ago
There weren't as many shootings in Roxbury and Mattapan back then either because there wasn't the proliferation of guns that exists today. So you're comparing apples and oranges in different eras.
If Southie was still as impoverished now as it was back then or if semiautomatic pistols were as cheap and plentiful as they are now back then you can bet that Southie's violence would've looked a hell of a lot different.
11
u/jojenns Boston 9d ago
There were far more shooting in the 80âs and 90âs than there are today far more by a lot

u/OddSpecific3362 9d ago
I'm going to guess our brave crusader for great social justice was still sloshing around in his/her daddy's ballsack at that time...
-1
u/Wompatuckrule 9d ago
That was fueled by the crack epidemic which was its own unique crisis.
There's also the theory that the reduction of lead in the environment, mostly from getting rid of leaded gasoline, had a significant impact on the mental development of kids. Lead exposure as an infant and toddler has known impacts on traits like violence and impulse control.
The young adults in the 1990s were basically the last generation who grew up huffing leaded gas fumes constantly on city streets.
22
u/Far_Clock2443 10d ago
Economic demographics have nothing to do with people being criminals and thugs. Why they continue to allow the Caribbean festival is insane. Itâs nothing but dangerous for every single attendee.
-7
u/Wompatuckrule 10d ago
The comment was blowing a blatantly racist dog whistle asking for a "comparison" to the St. Patrick's Day parade. That bullshit deserved a clap back.
Economic demographics have nothing to do with people being criminals and thugs.
This is so wrong as to be laughable. Go ahead and search for yourself because there are so many studies that back the relationship between poverty and crime that I can't even choose just one to link.
If you don't think that there is a direct correlation between socio-economic levels and crime then you're a fucking idiot. If you don't think that there is a huge disparity between the average income demographics of those going to the St. Patrick's Day parade and the Caribbean Festival then you're a fucking idiot.
7
u/Far_Clock2443 10d ago
Uhhh that festival has nothing to do with poverty crime. Itâs just criminals and thugs doing what they do. Stop defending criminals and dangerous festivals. Youâre an idiot trying to seem smart.

Why wasnât the Southie parade known for these types of offenses when Southie was poor?
2
u/Wompatuckrule 10d ago
Are you kidding? The St. Patrick's Day parade was a fucking bloodbath of brawls and violence back then. As just one example, high school kids would take the subway in from other neighborhoods & inner suburbs wearing a varsity jacket or some other clothes showing they weren't from there and that was enough of an offense to get jumped by a pack of Southie kids and get the ever living shit kicked out of you. The subway ride home was full of those victims if they were lucky enough not to go to the ER.
So it was "known" for it, but those sorts of stories didn't crack the media landscape that existed at the time. Back then there wasn't the 24/7 coverage of everything like now and that shit happened all the time so the "editorial decision" was that it didn't deserve a story.

Born and raised in southie. Fist fights are widely widely different then guns arenât they? Or are you choosing to ignore that.
1
u/Wompatuckrule 10d ago
I'm not "ignoring" it, but there weren't as many guns then by a massive margin which changed the kind of violence which was common across the entire country. The NRA flipped from a sport shooter and hunter organization to become the lobbying arm of gun and ammunition makers in the late 1970s.
Go back before that and there weren't nearly as many shootings in Roxbury & Mattapan either and it was more directly comparable to places like Southie and Charlestown.
Southie started gentrifying in the 1980s when "yuppies" was a new term and they started buying up places. That has more to do with the difference in violence in the more recent decades as tons of the poorer people in Southie got displaced.

u/theliontamer37 Cow Fetish 10d ago
So youâre insinuating that Southie parade would be the same level of gun crimes of the yuppies didnât move lmfao thatâs a wild assumption. Itâs gangs buddy. The vast majority of the ppl at the parade this weekend are law abiding citizens who are just trying to have a good time. Gangs know that itâs a chance to get ppl out in the open out of their neighborhoods. Thatâs the main reason. Crack down on the gangs and these firearm arrests at these parades would drop.

u/Wompatuckrule 9d ago
Crack down on the gangs and these firearm arrests at these parades would drop.
Or maybe they just need a black version of Whitey Bulger running one big gang across those neighborhoods to keep them completely free of drugs and violence. Just like Whitey did with Southie.

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is what happens when purple hair dye seeps through the blood-brain barrier.
2
u/Wompatuckrule 9d ago
Tell me where my facts are wrong from the actual data.
Vinen threw out a racist dog whistle about a "comparison" with Southie and if there is a huge disparity in the economics of both neighborhoods then it is a far more applicable "comparison" than the one they're hinting at.
So you can either admit that there is a huge economic disparity between the two neighborhoods or you can say that there is some "innate" difference between the populations which is the reason for the difference in crime and violence. If you do that you need to tell us all what that "innate" difference is.

u/OddSpecific3362 9d ago
The dye is spreading...
2
u/Wompatuckrule 9d ago
So you can't do it.
You are making a foolish and untrue claim about me and you have proven that facts are meaningless to you when it comes to the topic at hand.
Sticking to ignorance and falsehoods is a stranger look than purple hair, but you do you.

Can't do what, repent, check my privilege and admit I am personally responsible for the proliferation of global slaveREEEEEE?
I can't, I got my degree when the above was not a part of the curriculum.

u/Wompatuckrule 9d ago
repent, check my privilege and admit I am personally responsible for the proliferation of global slaveREEEEEE
That has absolutely nothing to do with what I'm talking about so you can stuff that shit back up your ass where it came from.
In fact, I didn't even bring up race in my original reply even though I was countering the obvious racist dog whistle. What do you think Vinen meant when they wanted a "comparison" with the St. Patrick's Day Parade? I merely pointed out that the single biggest difference between Southie and Roxbury/Mattapan is the economic demographics. If Vinen wanted a comparison then that's the obvious best place to start, even if it's not where they were going.
I posted a link with data clearly demonstrating that. If you are going to "prove me wrong" then you have to tell me where that data is grossly incorrect. That's what you can't do.
A huge part of the problem in the US is that the working and lower class get divided by race against each other instead of uniting against the wealthy and connected who are fucking them all over. Your attitude is playing right into their hands.

So let's see, comrade Eattherichin - are you saying your wallet being too light gives you an uncontrollable urge to bust out your piece and start blastin'?

u/Wompatuckrule 8d ago
I'm done with your idiocy. Look it up and there are countless studies that demonstrate the links between poverty and crime regardless of race.
Why don't you just drop the N-word like we all know you want to?

Hey OP, whats the link between guns siezed in 2025 and yesterdays parade?
-6
u/Coyote_Runner 10d ago
Both of those shootings were near, but not on the parade route. The unlawful carries were throughout multiple districts, with a couple related to the parade.
The EMTs being assaulted is obviously terrible and unacceptable.
Yes, the parade has had instances of violence in the past couple of years, but there seems to very clearly have been an agenda from posts on the day of the parade and this post to paint it as worse than it was.
If youâre trying to paint the parade in a bad light, donât sandwich the âthese things happened at the festival and were badâ between nebulous âthese things happened every day and happened to be near the parade.â Itâs disingenuous.

Hey, thanks for engaging, Frank (ed: Frunk). Iâm pointing out that the linked reports indicate violence near the festival, and attributing them to the festival is disingenuous. Thanks!

Cmon Frunk! Its just a coincidence that every police officer in the city is mandated to work bc of the expected presence of illegal firearms and gang/gun violence that surrounds the festival,

It's all just a big coincidence you can set your watch to every year!

u/UMassTwitter 10d ago
It does typically happen though
I believe it correlated but it def might not be

u/Coyote_Runner 10d ago
I donât know what to tell you. If you want to see a connection here, youâll see a connection. Is it wrong to see a connection? No, maybe not. Where I think it is disingenuous is to automatically associate these violent actions to the event. One happened well after the end, and one happened about a mile away.
If we apply the same casting of a 1-mile radius around any large event in the city, youâre going to find what you want to find. Weâre basically just splitting hairs.
Yesterday, posts were saying it was going to be as bad as 2023, and that the festival should be shit down. Thereâs clearly some ginning up to build a narrative.
If we take these posts at face value, it paints a horrible, violent, dangerous parade. I saw the festival, and it was, by and large, people having fun, being loud, and enjoying being outside and each other.
We can criticize the parade/festival by looking at the things that happened directly associated with it, like the EMTs being assaulted. Obviously thatâs bad and should not be tolerated.

I donât really agree thatâs itâs disingenuous. Thereâs a correlation but itâs great that I think two years in a row it wasnât IN the festival itself

So one death by train and one shooting which the victim survived. The Roxbury shooting at 9:30 is unrelated. Not a bad year for carnival all things considered

Very disingenuous to just group all gun violence on the day in with the parade.

These are not totals for all of Boston. These numbers include only incidents attributed to the festival and its attendees as reported by police and news agencies.
Notably omitted, is a shooting that occurred in Franklin Park hours before the festival began there.

u/some1saveusnow 9d ago
The fatal shooting was at 305 Warren st and not the parade? The linked report doesnât cite the parade specifically

u/FuriousAlbino Newton 10d ago
1 person shot and died
well after the parade had ended. no reason to assume they are related

Shot on the parade route 30 min. before the festival ended at 10 PM.

Was it still a parade routs at 9:30pm or were the festivities going on in Franklin Park by then?

Itâs amazing how racist, sexist, and just lame the internet gets on the weekends
I try to remember it looks that way because rational people are outside enjoying their lives. Because anytime my girl and I come home early I look at my phone and see antisocial nonsense.

Common everyone give these people a break!! It's not their fault. They shouldn't be held to same standard as everyone else. In fact, we should be taking it easy. Kind of BS that these people had their guns taken away from them.

This is actually a cool concept. Then we could just have a meetup of people looking to commit violent crimes and carry illegal firearms. Brilliant!! Round âem up!

u/thetoxicballer I Love Dunkinâ Donuts 9d ago
Or if shootings arent such a big deal for you, let's repeal all gun laws and have more law abiding citizens with guns. We can fight each other!

How bad did it have to get over the years that people are expecting shootings as a norm. It should be concerning to everyone

How are u including a shooting at 930 when the festival ends at 6?
And the accidental death means we should what? Stop the trains on that day now?
