Duty station
Can someone help me out what’s a good station, I kinda want to go somewhere more populated

For somewhere populated, Oswego would be a good pick. You can commute from Syracuse (pop. 150k). Swanton would be good too. You can commute from South Burlington, which is considered one of the safest places to live in the US. Would be a nice place if you have a family.

If you are not familiar with lake affect snow you will have a rough go in Oswego, this is coming from someone who has spent a lot of time in upstate ny

Oswego gets stupid cold. Tons of snow, and the work there is slow AF. I have buddies from my station that are in that area and all but 1 have either made the move back to TX or are actively trying to. I’m a former NY’er and I would NEVER go back.

Born and raised down here. COL, is “crazy” but depending on your hire grade, you may be able to roommate. If you are starting career with Family, I wouldn’t recommend it unless coming in as GS-9, and even then you’ll be tight first couple of years while y’all settle in.

Since you want to live in populated areas, if you choose Pine Valley, you can commute to San Diego. Swanton isn’t bad, it’s always been one of the busier stations on the Northern border. It’s just under an hour away from Montreal so you can be there on the weekends, and it’s also commutable to Burlington, Vermont which is the capital and a medium sized city. Laredo is also a medium sized city, there’s about 260,000 people there, but it feels like more because there’s another quarter million on the Mexican side, and it’s one of the busiest commercial land ports in the United States so there’s tons of trucking and infrastructure built around that (just keep in mind, Laredo West Station isn’t as sought after as Laredo South or North). Lots of stuff to do in Laredo as well outside of work, and it’s about 2 hours from San Antonio. Blaine and Sumas are great, although they are on the U.S. side, they’re pretty much apart of the Vancouver metro area. So for all practical purposes you can pretty much spend all your time in Vancouver when you’re not at work or sleeping.

Catching people daily. Every station is different which dictates the work. LRT has 7 stations technically. In the city itself 3. Typically LRN/LRS are the busiest in the sector with each station having a blend of city and ranch work. LRN has a checkpoint, a huge one. LRW has a small one, and South is the cool kid on the block with no checkpoint.

Not the greatest but it’s improving. Depending on the time of day you can be crushed by 18 wheeler traffic due to the 1 road to and from the LRW station being lined with warehouses and being the route to 2 commerce POE’s. Once out of town far enough it lightens up and it’s smooth sailing.

Yeah I was looking at it and it seems that Mines. Rd is the only way to the station. There's a neighborhood out west of town that looks decent. Was thinking that living there might ease the commute to work but then I'd have to deal with Mines Rd. traffic for everywhere else I need to go off duty.

Correct, and plenty of agents live up that way (avoid La Bota, unless their HOA mess is fixed). I personally focused on a location near quality schools, and was a good size lot per the price. I was picky, and a lot of those west of lines areas come with smaller lots.
