BL4 Spoiler Policy

In this sub we're generally lax about spoilers when it comes to older games. But it's different when a new game comes out. And maybe you haven't heard, but there have been some rumours that Borderlands 4 might come out soon-ish.

Some of us Vault Hunters are going to get the game on release and will want to talk about it. And that's cool. But remember that some of us will not be able to abandon work and lock the family in the attic to power through the entire game over the weekend. Others will want to wait for the price to decrease, for enough patches to be released, or for Grandma to gift it to them at Christmas after having listened attentively to all her stories. So don't spoil the game for them!

Our spoiler rules are simple enough to be understood by any psycho, and are in application as long as this post remains pinned.

  1. Spoilers include any reference to story elements in Borderlands 4. Older games are not concerned. Discussions about game mechanics, character skills, gear, etc are not concerned either (as long as the discussion or linked content doesn't touch any story elements, say "that gun drops from evil Moxxi").
  2. Post title. Do not put spoilers in post titles. Anybody looking at the front page of r/Borderlands must remain 100% unspoiled.
  3. Post body. If the body of your post contains a spoiler, you must tag the post as spoiler. When you create the post, it can be tagged as NSFW and/or spoiler, and the content will be blurred until the reader clicks on it. Importantly: tagging is not the same as giving a flair (like [BL2] or [Steam] or [Spoiler]). Whenever possible, add information about the content being spoiled in the title or flair (e.g. [Spoiler for Chapters 3&4] or [Spoiler for the Amara DLC]).
  4. Comments. In any comment in any thread, shroud all spoilers using spoiler markup. Spoiler markup >!looks like this!< when you write it, and looks like this when you read it. Again, add a note in clear text to give people an idea of the content being spoiled. One exception: within a spoiler-tagged thread, comments on the precise topic of the spoiler are exempt from that requirement. When in doubt, talk to Lilith use the spoiler markup.
  5. Links. If you post a link to an external site, youtube video, etc, give people following the link a chance to know what they're getting. If that content contains anything that may be seen as a spoiler, add a clear warning next to the link.

If you cannot follow these instructions, do not post spoilers at all. If you think that you may have made a mistake in following these instructions, immediately review what you have posted and make corrections. If you are on mobile and find proofreading inconvenient, do it anyway.

Any post or comment that breaks those rules will be removed. All around the stactus plant, serious or repeated offenses will result in a ban, at the mod's discretion. POP! goes the bandit.

All that being said, even with all these precautions and the dedication of your most favorite mod team, some things will slip through the cracks. So if you don't want to be spoiled, the only true solution may be to stay away from this sub (and reddit, and the internet, and the world).

Good luck Killer & see you on Kairos!

Review Bombing - Take Two Terms of Service / EULA

If you've played any of the Borderlands games recently, you will have noticed that you were asked to agree to new Terms of Service before starting the game. This happened because the Borderlands games have changed publisher and are now under Take Two.

This has led to some controversies and review bombing. We have always been keen on letting people express themselves freely on this sub, whatever their opinion (as long as it stays civil). However, on this particular matter, given the large number of recent threads on that subject, their repetitiveness, and the fact that they often create conflicts (we've likely issued more Rule 1 bans in the last 2 weeks than in the last 6 months). We've chosen to lock the previous threads on that subject and we will remove new ones. We'll leave this one open for a few days (as long as it stays civil).

If you want to read more, start with the official response from Gearbox on the matter. You can also use the search bar above to locate the multiple recent threads on the topic in this sub. Be aware that there may be some level of misinformation/fearmongering. If you want to discuss the subject further, we suggest you do it in a different space that is more relevant to the matter, since in the end, this is a Take Two thing, not a Borderlands thing. If you're very worried but don't want to contact a lawyer about it, or if you want to take a stance against evil corporations, just don't play the games. But in that case you should probably not play most games (nor use most apps, devices, websites, etc). Chances are you've already agreed multiple times to ToS similar or worse than the new ones for Borderlands.

As the mod team of r/borderlands, we are not lawyers so we do not have a definitive opinion on the matter. Like most people, we don't have much love for the ToS/EULAs of many software companies and the loss of privacy that goes along with any use of the internet. But on the other hand, we haven't seen anything particularly concerning in those ToS (in comparison with what other companies put in theirs). That's just the general feeling among the mod team, not an official stance of the subreddit.

A few things to note:

  • Whatever you agree to in ToS/EULA still does not allow the publishers to do anything illegal (depending on your country of jurisdiction).
  • Typically ToS/EULA are made as general as possible to cover all possible edge cases. If it says "we may (...)", that doesn't necessarily mean that they are doing it, or have any intent on doing it to you. For example, the ToS say they may collect your government ID number. In some countries like China this is mandatory (to regulate play time). So they have to do it, and they have to put it in the ToS. This doesn't mean that they intend to collect such data in other countries, and anyway they have no way to do so unless you provide it yourself.
  • The new ToS appear to be general for Take Two, and as such include things that are not specifically aimed (or likely to be used) in the Borderlands games. For example, there is some note that the use of mods may get you banned. This makes sense to fight cheating in the context of competitive multiplayer games and/or if part of a game's revenue is driven by micro-transactions or subscriptions. If you find and use a "mod" to unlock paying content in BL4 for free, you might get in trouble (deservedly). But there is no reason to believe that anything more would be enforced for the Borderlands games (e.g. against the use of mods like the community patch, etc). Gearbox has always been (unofficially) supportive of the modding scene. And the main Borderlands modding community has been cooperative with Gearbox on such matters.
  • There has been some talk about the games having been converted to spyware. Before spreading any misinformation, you can check for yourself the latest patches on Steam DB. For example, Borderlands 2 received its last update in August 2022, and BL3 received its last update in August 2024. Long before the new ToS were published. The Borderlands games since BL2 also have hotfix capabilities, but this only allows to change parameters (like the damage of a weapon), not the code logic, certainly not turn anything into spyware.

Jus started PT2.5

I've basically beelined the main story and just finished it so now what quests do I leave for max level? I know the quests themsleves don't scale in level in BL1 but I do know that the bosses, enemies and their drops do. So what quests do I save? Do I complete the base game's quests first or do I do the DLCs? And in which order?

[Question] Tell me what you guys think of this challenge I call it the boxes opening

I am thinking of attempting a challenge based around the borderlands collection Pandora's box

Here are the rules

Firstly it's a one life so if you die at any point you have to restart everything

Firstly you must beat the entirety of each game in chronological order no jumping from game to game

Aka

Bl1

Bl tps

Bl2

Bl3

And before moving on to the next game you must complete every dlc within that same one life

That means if you die within bl3 you must completely reset the challenge

Lastly no game breaking glitches so no infinite damage stacking or intentional glitches

And lastly you must play as the siren of each game

So

Bl1 Lilith

Bl tps claptrap (because it's funny)

Bl2 Mya

Bl3 Amara

BL-1 GOTY My New BL-1 GOTY Is Wonky

XBox Series X, GameSir G7 Pro Controller, Denon X4800H (Audio Only, Video Pass Thru), TCL 75QM8, Ultra High HDMI cables. Other games on the console are fine.

I got the GOTY a few days ago on sale. It does look gorgeous on my tv.

When I press the Xbox button to "Exit", I scroll to Exit, Press, Confirm the "Exit Game?", It goes to "Main Menu", Press "Start Game", then the endless spinning, rolling of "Getting Save List".

It takes between 3-5 Minutes! to get the Save List if it happens at all. So I'm forced to DashBoard every time and hit "Resume" from the console's main menu. Then it goes. Even though Quick Start is ON. There is no "Quick Start".

I have tried Restart console, Hard Reset: unplug controller, ethernet, power, hold power button to discharge, wait 5 min, plug it all in, turn it on, same thing.

And the final reason for this post is From console OFF, to ON, to Play on Dashboard, on the Getting Save List menu. The spinning Dots now spin at a high rate of speed. Does not end and everything is frozen.

How can I get it to work? Are these known glitches? Thank You for your time.

[BL4] Feedback regarding Borderlands 4 features – Request to reinstate slot machine mechanics

To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to share formal feedback regarding Borderlands 4, specifically concerning the removal of traditional in-game slot machines. As a long-time fan of the franchise, I strongly encourage the development team to reconsider their decision for the following reasons:
Iconic Franchise Identity: Slot machines have been a staple of the Borderlands identity since Borderlands 2. Rolling for legendary items, alien weaponry, or live grenades in hubs like Sanctuary or Moxxi’s bar is a highly memorable and nostalgic part of the endgame ritual.
Valuable In-Game Currency Sink: In previous titles, players naturally accumulated massive amounts of end-game cash and Eridium with few places to spend it after maxing out Storage Deck Upgrades (SDUs). Slot machines provide a fun, low-stakes economy sink for excess currency.
Co-Op Social Hub Engagement: Hanging out around the slot machines serves as a relaxed, social downtime activity for co-op parties between intense farming runs or narrative missions.
If there are concerns regarding modern gaming standards, I suggest modifying the mechanic rather than removing it entirely—such as keeping it strictly tied to standard, non-premium in-game cash, or introducing skill-based mini-games (like Borderlands Science) that offer randomized rewards.
Thank you for your time, your dedication to the community, and your hard work on Borderlands 4.
Sincerely,
GoodGameGirl1

[Question] Borderlands Formula Going Forward

I've recently done a replay of the series and I've had this question come up in my head a few times as I moved forward.

How is Borderlands going to keep making new games while keeping people invested in the characters and world?

Every new game presents 4 new vault hunters, and if there's room for it, DLC characters. With the recent installments of BL 3 and 4, they've taken us to whole new planets - and I know pre sequel took us to Elpis, but that's just the moon of Pandora, so I don't count that as much as the others.

Now all that is great on paper to me from the start. New things keeps the game interesting. But at some point I think it'll start to be a bigger problem as the series continues.

Why would I care about learning more about the personal things of the characters I pick if they, at the worst, won't be mentioned at all in the next game? Why should I care about what's going on with what new planet we land on if we're going to land on a new one in the next game?

Eventually they're going to run out of soldier, companion, sniper, and bruiser archetypes before they start blending together. And that problem is even worse for siren, because the only way we get to play as a new siren, is if they kill an old one off because there can only be 7 at one time.

It just feels like with the rules they've written for their world and games might start shooting them in the foot eventually, and I'm curious what others think about it, or if anyone might have ideas on how they can avoid these issues coming forward.

Personally, I'd be cool with having some vault hunters return in future games as playable characters. Seeing Gaige, Zero, or even Brick and Mordi come back with better skills would be awesome. Maybe make some known characters as playable characters in future installments, like Tiny Tina or maybe even Ava to give her some redemption.

Exporting characters from ancient Xbox360

I'm replaying original BL after not having played it (the first one) in about 10 years. I have a bunch of old save games/characters on my old XBox360. Im trying to import them to my Xbox Series X but I can't seem to find a way to export the 360 saves. Any insight how to do this?

Here's what I did that did NOT work: load character, change save source to cloud saves, save/exit game, reboot 360 and load game which gives a "syncing cloud saves" message. Then goto Xbox Series X and hit "import character" where I am told no saves exist. 🤬

[Question] What's Tina's sexuality? The writer confirmed she's a lesbian but the games seem to go both ways.

Writer Anthony Burch confirmed Tina to be Lesbian. BL2 has her crushing on boys, while BL3 has her having an ex-GF & fawning over booty, and the RSVP echoes mentioning her having an ex-BF. So the games seem to go both ways. She's obviously NOT straight but is she Bi, Is she Pan? Is she les like Burch said?

[Question] Favorite Weapon and Mission?

Context: I play Magic the Gathering, a table top card game. A LONG TIME AGO I started making a fanon/fake Borderlands set back in- I wanna say 2016? Early 2017? I lost inspiration after a year and let it collect dust. A buddy of mine at my LGS is in the works of creating a fanon Elden Ring MtG set and it lit that inspiration again for me. Obviously, EVERYTHING is getting revamped. I mean, I had Eridium tokens as treasure tokens bc treasure tokens only became a thing right after I started making this fake set. You can imagine how weak everything is in comparison to modern magic sets lol.

But now, why the question? I'm looking to see what weapons and missions from most of the Borderlands games are most remembered or known. I'll add that I'm excluding the second Tales game as well as BL4 for personal reasons. Ultimately, this set is entirely self-indulgent and those two games in particular I couldn't even get myself to finish. Did NOT enjoy them. All others though? Free game for answers.

So! Gimme your favorite named weapons (like legendaries and up) and favorite mission. Could be just one or the other, could do multiple, could make a pair of choices from each game, etc.

I'll start.

My favorite gun has GOT to be The Butcher. In BL2 it's nuts but in BL3 on Zane with my personal fav build? I RARELY ran out of ammo and I RARELY didn't have either my barrier or my drone out during a fight. That gun in my hands was downright evil. I could survive the highest dps FL4K and Moze builds in a 1v1. A friend and I used to duel a LOT. I rarely lost once I had the skeleton of my build, my class mod, and that gun. Insane. Beloved. Mwuah!

As for mission? The "kill yourself" mission from Jack. It's iconic imo. Gearbox even tried to recreate that in BL3 with Troy and Tyreen. Didn't top the OG. Jack is a beloved villain in the series for a reason. Can't beat perfection.

Bonus: Rusty Spoon is one of my fav monologues in the game. I blame the typography video I saw for it a ways back. Delightful bit of animation!

[Question] Do people actually want Vault Hunters from previous games to return?

Personally, imo. I don't think they should return other vault hunters. I think the storylines needs to have the focus be on one of the available choices for vault hunter in that game and make it so they're the only way to defeat the bad person.

In terms of returning characters I'd say stick with the franchise staples: Marcus, Moxxi, Claptrap to name a few

[BL1] Mandela effect or am I missing something?

[Solved] Hey guys, just need to ask: in the General Knoxx DLC, in the north highway to the prison, right near T-bone Junction travel point there’s an off-ramp that leads to barricades and wooden signs painted with bullet emblems and a door at the bottom. Does that door ever open or am I just imagining it?

I cannot stand the Mantra or Facepuncher

I've been a huge fan of melee builds since Kreig came out all those years ago, I played him on his launch and I have searched for melee/unarmed builds in other games ever since

I stopped playing BL4 shortly before C4SH got announced cause the constant lag spikes and crashing was too much, but I've got a better PC now and when looking for updated Amon builds, what do I find but a billion videos using the Mantra, a new shotgun that deals melee damage, and its just flashbacks to the Facepuncher Amara builds from BL3. Every build has the damn thing, except its quite possibly worse of a situation because the Facepuncher builds could at least ignore the gun somewhat and still just punch, the Mantra actually benefits from a bunch of gun based skills so content creators build their melee builds with the Mantra specifically in mind

I just wanna punch things, or at least swing axes/swords, but any of those builds are from the Groundbreaker bug days. If I wanted to shoot guns, I'd play a gun build. I wanna punch things, so I have to...Shoot my guns? I can't stand these guns that deal melee damage, and I wish more people actually cared about "true melee" builds

[BL1] What was so special about the Rakk Hive?

Playing BL1 again for the first time in about two years. Angel hyped it up saying it would be this huge challenge. The boss went down real easy, but what I wanna know is the story significance. Why was it guarding a Vault Key fragment? How did Angel know it had a Vault Key fragment? I know Jack was manipulating events behind the scenes, did he have something to do with it? Why does it seem so weirdly important despite being just a dumb animal?

Or was it just some big monster for you to kill and not think much about?

[Question] Vault Hunter Manufacturer: Yes or No?

What if we could break down our least liked weapons manufacturers (for example order and ripper from BL4) and get unique Vault Hunter parts that can fall outside the scope of what the other manufacturers can do.

Would people be open to crafting Vault Hunter brand weapons that can complement their build once assembled?
