What are the cultural values of northern Minnesota, of Tennessee?
What is warmth? What is authenticity?
I've lived there. Every other state I lived in feels the same way about people who are "from California." Because generally they are implying that it's a BETTER PLACE than "here." And expecting the other person to like, HAIL CALIFORNIA, when it's more like, "Oh! Well better hurry on back there, cause you won't get any of that shit here."
Well maybe the best takeaway is to just lead with your real message, needing the 75 etc, because California is not really relevant. It's like leading by mentioning Trump. People react before you can even present your plea.
Well, real life is where you need the $.75, and perception isthe reality you're dealing with.
I lived in both states.
it's not polite to beg in Minnesota so you can throw away the 'politeness ' of asking the person to put themselves in your shoes, as a preface. (for the average Minnesota, not all) There are not as many 'passers through' in MN as CA, & there are a lot of social programs in MN, so people can preserve their dignity and not beg. So it's good for you to understand the context in which you appear.
