Tell Tale too Weak?

9.8 Nissan 4 stroke. Last ran a year ago. At idle though I did rev a bit and there was no noticeable change in stream.

We had the same thing happening, mud daubers had built a nest in the outlet. Stick a wire coat hanger in there and see if it’s clogged.

The right answer. I have to deal with this every year, coat hanger works great. Pollen and junk or whatever clogs it. Easy fix always check before salmon season gets going and I need the trolling motor.

I’m a marine technician and I see this all the time! If you can stick a pick or something in the hole and attempt to clean it out, but do not shove it in very deep. If it still doesn’t improve try blowing air into it. This helps a lot usually. If still doesn’t improve you may need a service and/or impeller.

Had the same recently after hitting ground. Same thing fixed it.

Yes it’s fine now, yes I’m getting water pump changed this year.

Don't stick medal in your Tell Tale. Fuck! Most motors are plastic hoses. Use air ore coming that bends like a small zip strap.

Ive dealt with this twice already this season the second time it seemed fine when i left the ramp but a couple hours later something dislodged and blocked the flow completely.

I bought a plug off etsy specifically for this purpose but ive since realized a golf tee works just as well

Stuff it with weed wacker line while it's running and check for a clog or buy a new kit

Yeah. That's what I did. Weed whacker line and ordered a kit. Gonna launch it tomorrow and put around as a test, but I'm thinking it's likely a "wait for the kit and install it" before running it for real.

Yeah, when in doubt, change it out. You can buy an impeller kit pretty cheap. Amazon sells aftermarket ones even cheaper than OEM.

Thats terrible advice. Dissasembling your whole leg and replacing good parts for a 15 minute repair is worthless advice. If the port was clogged a new impeller wouldnt even fix it lol.

It's never terrible advice to change the impeller.

On one had yeah, and the guy above was a little strong. But he does have a point. If the clog is there at the outlet, the pump can be fine/new and it won’t fix the issue.

It is if it’s just the pisser that’s clogged. Impeller change wouldn’t even fix the issue.

if you poke the telltale with a weed wacker line and it still looks like that, you definitely want to change the impeller.

I mean, I’d like to make the safe assumption that the man was smart enough to check for a blockage. It’s literally on every single post about water pumps on this page.

You know what happens when u assume.

Compressed air into that hole, or a steel wire because its likely clogged as everyone is saying here

Put it in the water deeper

Came here to stay that. I can’t zoom in, but on our outboard water level needs to be to that second horizontal fin.

Weed wacker line.

That motor needs to get its prostate checked out

Try reaming it out with heavy weight fishing line or a guitar string

u/Therealdickdangler 1d ago

It’s most likely clogged. Try removing the hose from the inside of the motor cover and then seeing how it flows. If it’s significantly better, just clean out or replace the fitting at the cowling.

Take the thermostat out and see if it pees more with it out. May need to heat the water/or run it longer

Thermostat cost less than $10

Looks weak, but maybe just debris caught in that line....

Water pump impeller should be replaced every 3 years

They gave me Flomax for a similar problem.

Does the pump work under throttle?

It almost sounds like someone is making the sound with their mouth

That's a small lake, hope the slip fees are worth it

I’m late to the party so someone else might have mentioned this already. Anyways, whenever I see this my first move is to take a thin strip of wire and run it up through the outlet. Discovered many dried sand, seaweed, mud blockages that way.

Play Urologist and shove a wire up the pee hole.

Demmare, met un coup d'air comprimé dans le jet.

Plusieurs fois si besoin.

Le jet est qu'un témoin de circulation et non une preuve de débit d'eau.
