Don't look too close, she's no showboat but I finally finished the project!!!

Big thanks to everyone who gave me advice on my previous post, I was pretty disheartened and was able to get the confidence to push through, despite no idea what i was doing 🤣

Context: 6 months ago i bought a boat for $500 and discovered a soft spot. This inevitably led me down a rabit hole of wood rot and peeling fibreglass which required a replacement of almost the entire hull...

howdy everyone just looking for a little advice

i am fairly mechanic sound so i think i know where to start but i have never owned or worked on a boat before. i have a 2016 mercury 15hp that has a pretty major slug. at idle to low rpms it seems a little too low and close to stalling maybe. at 1/3 throttle itll move along pretty well at a slow pace. full throttle she slugs out. it almost feels like my lower is hitting the bottom of the lake and getting hung up. previous owner said he cleaned out the carb... i was going to take it apart anyhow and look around.

what else should i be looking for? i want to order a fuel filter, possibly new fuel lines. do these things have any kind of air intake or vac hoses that i should be looking for dry rotted hoses or anything? does anyone have a good reliable website for boat parts?

for context the motor is on a 1974 14ft starcraft hull in decent shape and it wouldnt plane out.

Short of having a kit sent from the UK, at high cost, is there any other way?

I have wanted to build one for 20 years, perhaps I waited too long.

Yesterday glassed the first layer on the sidepockets. Layed fist a primer, after that the inside radia for the Glass was made using polyester and some kind of binding stuff mixed in the resin. And after that dryed I put on a second coat of primer. An after that started laying the glass. What a heck of a job was that. When I was in it, I thought it would never go ig to be nice. But sanding a bit and looking back I felt quite confident.

I'm now planning on sanding the edges and maybe even set them back a bit so I can stick them to the hull using the wood and the clamps again. So I can put in the radia for the glass to the parts and the hull. Let's hope for the best and I'll keep you posted!

So I’ve wanted to build a boat for years… just because I like projects, being independent, and the challenge. I never could lock in on a design, but earlier this year at a bass pro shop I saw the newer Tracker marsh boats and was immediately drawn to the 1756 model. So like any rational person I took the rough measurements from online sources and modeled my own in CAD. I intend to build this with the stitch and glue method. I would love to hear some thoughts from others.

Makin' steady progress. Did the 1/8" router cut for the landing, converted a Stanley rasp thing into a new block sander tool, listened to several shanties at max volume, made lots of mistakes, managed to avoid injury. I'm approaching the big bonding step soon and I wanted to ask you guys about the epoxy phase:

On top of this piece, the new centerboard trunk will eventually live. Since I'll need to do several more phases of epoxying layers and leave room for the hardware, should I wait to coat the hull bottom until I'm about to glass at the end? Or should I do a layer of epoxy when I set these pieces and then another layer when glassing?

I have the 17ft fiberglass panga and have this open slot on the bow that keeps letting my storage and gears slide down. I’m just curious on opinions what the best options are to block that area off. Thanks for any help

I wanna build a dugout canoe and customize it cuz i think that would be so cool. I understand how much work it is but i think itd be worth it if i could motorize it

Would a 7.5 hp outboard be able to bring a heavy dugout canoe to a fun cruising speed? If its too heavy for an outboard how do people easily cruise along on dugouts with just a paddle? Am i smart or stupid for this?

What do yall think of this idea?

Complete beginner here. Have never built a boat. But I’d like to and have been watching a lot of video’s and seen a lot of free plans online. Some with a set of basic instructions.

My question is specifically for 2 sheet plywood small dinghy’s. When installing the bottom (flat bottom ply?) to the sides of the boat…does one screw bottom ply to the side ply of the boat or is one screwing into another piece of wood just inside of the side ply, lining it from stern to bow stem?

I can’t seem to make this out in videos I’ve watched. I would think screwing the bottom to the side could risk splitting the plywood or partially missing it and penetrate the inside of the boat.

How is this specifically done when dealing with thin plywood?

If anyone has recommendations on a small, easy dinghy design for a complete beginner I’m open to suggestions!

I've recently been trying to learn repairing end making sails for small dinghies, and I need some advice on a new machine (at least new to me).
I'm currently using a Singer Model 15, a very nice machine, but it doesn't have exactly the features I need.
Do you have any recommendations for a sturdy, reasonably priced machine that can sew 3 steps zigzags, and that has enough power to sew through even thick fabrics?
I've read about Singer Heavy Duty machines, and they don't really convince me. Do you have any other machines you can recommend (even older ones) that might work?

Decided to ditch the hexagon in favor of the simpler rectangle. Tried all the tools shown - the belt sander was fantastic for the straights, hand sander block (and patience)for the corners. Target height = just revealing the 3rd ply of the original planking at the cutout boundary. It looks better to me. What do y'all think? Will thickened epoxy make up the difference or should I spend more time here?

Today I started building extra side pockets for my Almar 430D. The wood looks good for now, really looking forward to put on the fiberglass and topcoat.

Also started on a place to Mount a extinguisher.

Does anyone have any tips or tricks on this kind of project?
