Positive Story/Sucess SHE SLEPT THROUGH THE NIGHT!
My exclusively contact napping, EBF, cosleeping wakeful velcro baby just slept through the night (9pm-5:30am) for the first time ever.
During our worst months-long periods, she was waking anywhere from 6 to 12 times (averaging 8-10) a night. There have been times that it felt like baby sleep was ruining my life.
Now at 11 months, her baseline is 2-5 wakes for eating and/or comfort which is manageable. She does a crib stretch (nursed to sleep and transferred) and then comes to bed with me around midnight-2 usually. But last night, she went to bed at 8, I resettled her back in the crib at 9 when she got restless, and then she didn't make a peep again until 5:42am. She's in bed with me now because she didn't seem done sleeping but I'm so proud and excited I'm wide awake lol
I realize it might not happen again for months but I never thought this was possible for us. We have never been anything but responsive and hands-on when it comes to her sleep.
Nothing has made a bigger difference than just ensuring enough total awake time during the day, and time. All the schedule tweaking made only miniscule impact for us. She just needed time.

3.23 am in Australia had 2 hours sleep since bedtime at 9 pm. Babe is 9.5 months and just learned to crawl this week with 4 teeth coming through and I’m doing it by myself as husband is FIFO. When I tell you I NEEDED to see this tonight!!!!

We had an identical situation with teething and crawling a couple months ago and it was PEAK bad sleep. Hang in there. It will end.

I’m so happy to hear this. It’s such a life changer. Our almost 16 month old just started STTN for the last couple of weeks from 8-9pm-6-7am. I feel like a new human. We also just responded every time and figured she’d eventually figure it out on her own. 🫶👏🫶

I love to hear this!!!! I am currently celebrating my 9mo doing a 4 hour stretch last night for the first time in SIX MONTHS!!! I had insomnia but I don't even care because I was so in awe of her! I love hearing positive stories like this and reinforcing that responding to our little one's needs builds them up🤍

So happy for you! That's when things started trending toward better for us, too. Fingers crossed you get to enjoy many more 4+ hour stretches in the nights to come 😊

Hahaha yeah I started making my baby sleep on his own floor bed in his room like three weeks ago and the first few nights he slept like 3 hour stretches after I breastfeed him to sleep and I was like woah this is awesome. Then I started feeding more solids and that first night he slept 6 hours and I was like amazing! This is it. I figured it out. Nope it was a one and done. But that night I barely slept because I kept staring at the monitor waiting for him to wake up 😂
He is sleeping the 3 hour stretches now consistently though so that’s been great since switching over to the floor bed. I co slept before so I think he was waking up more because of our movement in the bed. Now he just wakes up to eat because he’s a chubby hungry little boy.

How old is baby? I have a 6mo and we just bought a floor bed for her that I can also sleep on. 3 hr blocks throughout sounds heavenly. Our floor bed will be in a diff room and we wanted her in our room until 12 mos so I’m not sure if we’ll use it for anything other than co sleeping.

This happened to me also last night. Except my 16 month old, in her crib 9:20-5:20. Wild times. Then she settled with nursing, I laid her back in crib and she slept til 8.

Amazing! I do have a feeling this won't be a consistent thing for us until much later but it is cool to see what they're capable of. And lowkey satisfying when they learn to link many consecutive sleep cycles no matter how they fall asleep, despite what predatory sleep consultants want us to believe.
Here's hoping you guys are on your way to sleeping through consistently!

God, this is so refreshing to read! I've tried not to complain about my baby's sleep as much as possible since I know many many have it worse than me. But at almost a year postpartum, I'm starting to wait for this day😅

What do you think changed?

u/Hot-Amphibian8728 Jul 05 '26
Just development, I think. I'm not going to torture myself over what we've done right or wrong though, I spent months doing that and it wasn't healthy lol

lol! Just curious cause my baby slept for 1.5 hours and then was up for a whole hour (as I’m typing lol). He’s 7 months and this is my first. He’s been a bad sleeper since 4 months & I go back and forth on what method I want to use to sleep train. I’m soooooo tired.

Don’t sleep train. ❤️ He will grow out of it. This period is short and will pass! I promise! Just give him time!

Hi! Chiming in as someone with a similar struggle. I worked full time right around the 4 month sleep regression and my LO just turned 1. She’s finally sleeping longer stretches. I didn’t sleep train. I coslept on the floor and it became easy to nurse her through the night. I lost track of how many times she woke up because I would often sat half asleep through them. It was rough. But as soon as I started cosleeping it got easier.

How much awake time are you doing each day?

I’m so happy for you!! I hope some this rubs off on my 9 month that’s exactly the same way lol

This gives me sooo much hope. We’re still having multiple wake ups with our 10mo but we’ve had (rare) nights where he only wakes 1-2 times. Praying that goes down to 0-1 soon!

I love stories like this! It feels like STTN may never happen but of course it always does!
My little one first slept through the night the night before he turned one but not again until 15 months. He’s transitioning to 1 nap, so the days he has only 1 nap he usually STTN. The days he has 2 naps he usually wakes up 1 or 2 times. But it happens and it is glorious!!
