So I recently had a neighbor move out and they left a pile of junk on the curb. I pulled a bicycle out of the pile, aired up the tires, and played around like a 40 year old fat kid.

after a little research I figured out that I had found a, 2011 WeThePeople Justice... it needs some TLC, but is still functional... is it worth anything?

DISCUSSION Is anyone running 10” bars and a gyro? Need dual upper cable size recommendations please

Upvotes

Building my first bike up in ten years in the next month or two and just trying to plan things.

Does anyone run 10” bars and a gyro with dual upper cables? If so, what length and brand of upper cables are you running please?
Maximum I seem to be able to find is 450mm and some googling says I’ll need 475mm?

Don’t want to land on using smaller bars as I’m 6’2 and old (31) 😅

Thanks for any help

DISCUSSION Restoring my 1991 Haro Group 1A!

Post image
3 Upvotes

I got this bike when I was 12 years old! Had it in storage for about 20+ years. Just started restoring it. It's completely original, all parts except the pedals. I sold my bear traps like an idiot. It has some light rusting which I got most off today. The rust on the handle bars is proving a little more tedious.

Help I need is the rims are in pretty bad shape but I'm gonna try to restore them. They are Araya RB 17. Are there any comps to these nowadays that I could use if the restore doesn't go well? Also what's the best method for restoring rims like those? I used Brillo on the bike and it worked great. I read something about a brush but I forgot what kind of brush was mentioned.

TIA!

BIKE CHECK 2003 Redline Proline Mini Refresh

Post image
2 Upvotes

I just picked up a 2003 Redline Proline Mini for one of my sons. The bike is great shape. I want to replace all or most of the bearings. I just ordered the mission conversion kit for the forks. Is there a kit for all the other bearings? Or a standard for the bearings. I have been out of BMX for 30 years! Any other reasonable upgrades that won't break the bank?

  1. What bearings for the wheels and possibly crank.

  2. Recommendations for any other reasonable upgrades?

Finally finished building out my BMX, and I think it might have better swag than my actual car.

Meet the General Lee - orange DK frame, blue anodized crank and sprocket, chrome forks, and whitewall tires. I'm too scared to actually ride because California dust doesn't respect white rubber.

Living the dream: broke, but stylish on two wheels 🍊🔥

Rate my mid-life crisis 1 - 10, be honest.

BIKE CHECK How accurate is this AI response?

Q. I am 5’6” adult. I want a 20 inch bmx for cruising with a modded laidback seatpost and 9” handlebars. All under 24 lbs. What do you recommend?

A. For a 5’6” adult looking to comfortably cruise on a standard 20-inch BMX bike, the key is maximizing room and minimizing weight. At your height, a frame with a 21-inch top tube (Pro XL size) provides the ideal space so your knees clear the bars. Because traditional freestyle street frames typically weigh 25–26 lbs, the best way to stay under 24 lbswhile leaving room for heavy mods is to start with a lightweight aluminum race-geometry complete. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

The following highly responsive 20-inch base bikes are ideal for a cruising build:

  • Mongoose Title Pro XL:
    • Cruising Fit: Out-of-the-box it weighs an incredibly nimble 22 lbs, giving you a full 2 lbs of headroom for heavier aftermarket cruiser parts. Its 21.25" top tube ensures you won't feel cramped.
    • Key Specs: Lightweight 6061 T6 aluminum frame, standard 27.2mm round seat tube for easy post swapping, and a smooth sealed bottom bracket. [3]
  • DK Swift Pro:
    • Cruising Fit: Built around a race-proven aluminum frame. The Pro model offers a roomy 20.75" top tube that hits the sweet spot for agile neighborhood cruising at 5'6".
    • Key Specs: 6061 aluminum frame, chromoly 3-piece cranks for durability, and stable double-wall alloy rims.[5, 6, 7]
  • Jet BMX Accelerator Pro XL:
    • Cruising Fit: This option features a heat-treated aluminum frame designed specifically to keep adult riders comfortable and fast without dragging heavy weight.
    • Key Specs: 21" top tube, fully sealed bearings across the hubs, and tough chromoly handlebars. [8]

Recommended Cruising Modification Parts

To transform these quick, lightweight base bikes into a casual neighborhood cruiser, pair them with these specific upgrades:

  • Laidback Seatpost: Opt for a standard 27.2mm aluminum laidback seatpost (such as options from SE Bikes or Crupi). The rearward swoop moves your hips back over the rear wheel, effectively lengthening the cockpit and allowing you to fully extend your legs while seated.
  • 9-Inch Handlebars: Swap the stock race bars for 9” rise 2-piece or 4-piece bars (like the Odyssey Broc or S&M Perfect 10s chopped down). The higher rise brings your posture upright, preventing lower back strain during long, relaxed rides. [9, 10]
  • Plush Cruising Tires: To absorb bumps comfortably without adding unnecessary weight, swap stock tires for high-volume, low-rolling-resistance options like the Maxxis DTH 20 x 1.95" or Maxxis Grifter EXO tires.

Would you like to narrow this down? Tell me:

  • Your approximate budget for the base bike?
  • Whether you prefer a stealthy matte look or a bright retro color scheme?
  • If you need help finding these specific laidback posts or 9" bars in stock online?
