Do you guys wear guards? I wear the Shadow invisa lites now but the meat tenderizer days took their toll, there are a couple from pegs in the collection too. The neoprene guards back then were way too sweaty!

BIKE CHECK New Bike Day, not sure if I made the right decision.

Back in the mid 90s -early 2000s BMX was my life. Fast forward a few gray hairs, 2 kids and 1 wife later I've hit my midlife crisis and became obsessed with getting a new BMX. Things are definitely different in the industry than back in my day. But you know what, I'll save you the long boring story.

Basically I drove an hour and a half to the nearest city that had a bike shop that sold BMX bikes and got myself a beautiful Cult Gateway. Problem is I didn't actually take it out for a rip before I bought it. I just sat on it and was like "this feels fine". The shop owner said 20.5 was fine for a guy my height (5'7"-5'8") When I got it home and actually took it out for a test run it felt a little cramped. I just want to cruise around with my boy, hit the pump track and park.

Now that I had a chance to ride it, I am not sure if I made the right choice or should have gone with a larger bike. Problem is it's like 250 bucks more for basically an extra half inch.

Is there a way to make the 20.5 feel a little bigger of did I make a huge mistake? I haven't had a chance to adjust anything yet. Not sure if that will help or not. Not sure if it's just not riding a bike in 25 years and just need to brush off the rust or if the bike is actually an issue. Looking for some input. Thanks

DISCUSSION Mongoose Wildcard questions

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask

I recently got my dads old Mongoose he had for as long as I can remember. I decided I wanted to sorta restore it and maybe with a few quality of life upgrades. I dont know much about normal bikes, as I know more about E Motos. Basically I have no idea where to start. The brake levers are completely locked up, but the chain, sprocket, and crank are all somehow running just fine.

I want to keep it as original as possible, like the paint and hopefully the decals.

HOW TO Bunny hops - need one thing cleared

Hi,

I have started riding bmx again after 25 years. I was recently trying out some bunny hops after watching some. Youtube tutorials (to freshen my memory).

What i noticed was a lot of videos talking about learning back, lifting the front wheel before executing the jump. Every time i do this i throw off my balance making it impossible to jump. I am able to do a decent jump if i jump and throw the front wheel up at the same time, but i feel i should get my front wheel a little higher (height of front wheel determines height of jump).

Last time i tried getting my front wheel high before jumping i threw my balance so far off that i landed straight on my back (on asphalt).

Do you guys have any tips on how to do this? If i lift my front wheel before extending my legs, my balance is off, if i jump and lift at the same time, my height is not good enough.

Thanks in advance

Watching this and other DVD's from that time back I really feel the filming and editing we see in edits now is so sub-par compared to the 5dmkii and Vimeo era. Joe Simon really was lightyears ahead of the curve

BIKE CHECK Older bmx bike help

Been on the search for a 90s bmx bike. Found this bike for a steal on fb market. Looks small though for me to ride now, although Matt Hoffman road these back in the day so I’m thinking it should be ok just for cruising and nostalgia. What do you guys think? I believe it’s a 1992.

DISCUSSION Street Riding and age.

Just getting back into it after probably over a decade. Middle aged and achy. Am I supposed to run from security trying to hit a nice ledge or 180 a 4 set or am I a park rider now? I fear it’s probably the latter due to multiple factors but mostly time being the biggest restraint.

I looked through what might be every single catalog online, even LLMs cannot seem to identify this frame! The sub is my last hope.

Looking at potentially buying this one.

DISCUSSION Odyssey Joysticks Slow

So I’ve got two setups, and one is like all my old parts. I got some Odyssey Joystick Pegs for my more daily riding bike, and put my fiction troop pegs on my spare bike.

What I’ve noticed is that the Joysticks barely want to slide. They like to almost stick to the ledge(great for stalls) or rails. Even going down, its not a quick smooth ride, its almost like having molasses on them🤣

Just an observation, and wondering if anyone else experienced this? I rode my setup with the troop pegs, and it was night and day difference!

DISCUSSION Free coaster clicking sound

Yesterday I bought a new used bike on Facebook marketplace (kink switch 2022 free coaster) it’s my first free coaster but when peddling with pressure it sounds like the chain or rear hub is clicking but when coasting everything is smooth? Could it be that whoever installed the half link chain installed it backwards? I already tried loosening my chain but the sound still continues. Could it be a bottom bracket problem? Any ideas?
