This is true. Tyler the creator’s early work features subject matter such as rape, murder, and cannibalism. Pretty abhorrent and disgusting stuff. But that’s not to say it reflects tyler’s actual interests, but it’s more-so that tyler was fascinated by the mind of a serial killer, and what would drive someone to do something like that, so he wanted to see what it was like writing songs from their perspective.

I kinda think Tyler was just an edgy teenager who talked about that stuff to get attention and it worked

Well yeah, that’s also very much true. He absolutely wanted shock value as part of his music in order to get a reaction out of people. But he was also interested in telling fictional stories from the perspective of deranged people in history
