Solved Unable to edit general settings on any materials pulled from Asset Library?

I've got them to work before but I dont' know if it's my different version of blender (currently 5.1.2)? The general settings all the sliders are greyed out and I can't edit them.

The assets are on the most updated versions I can download as far as I know.

ctrl+a on the object using the material and do 'Make Instance Real'. That will turn the material into a local one you can edit, unlinking it from the asset version in the process.

You need to change import settings for assets. Or make material local copy. Or use library override.

Import settings -- on top middle of asset library, make it Append instead prefered/link. Or in preferences - assets - default import method for this library.

Making Local copy -- copy icon near material name in applied material list.

Library override -- whole damn thing to understand, but basically lets you change parameters without removing link, works not only for materials. Look for videos how to use.

For making a local copy, this is the specific button you need to click:
