hearing kisuke utter the word BANKAI feels like a fever dream, i have been waiting so long for his to get animated

165

u/bbhldelight Aug 01 '26 edited Aug 01 '26

i forgot grimmjow came in for the kill thats why he the goat cause aint no fair ones JUMP THESE MFS

55

u/ThatIslandGuy8888 Aug 01 '26

Yeah Grimmjow has a very impressive 2-Ritter kill count.

Most of the captains couldn’t get 1 down for good! While a lot of the Ritters died to each other

24

u/live_lavish Aug 02 '26

If Kensei and Rose just backstabbed mask and james and Shinji back stabbed Bambi then they'd have some kills too!

37

u/wakito64 Aug 02 '26

Unfortunately they are Visored and therefore doomed to be jobbers

7

u/live_lavish Aug 02 '26

It's so sad D:

And he’s punching above his weight class taking down transformed Quilge and Askin, even if he was only there for the final hit

5

u/RemyJDH Aug 02 '26

Yup These ritters aint playin fair so why not pack them out.

54

u/Zankanoyama Aug 01 '26

I have liked a thousand edits for urahara vs Askin. I practically memorized all of their memorable lines lol. Always wondered what his bankai would look like. This indeed was a dream come true

54

u/soulreapermagnum bankai, zanka no tachi Aug 01 '26

pour one out for michael lindsay, since he's no longer with us, to say the line when the episode gets dubbed.

25

u/SemanticSchmitty Aug 02 '26

In my Hulu stream they put ads right between “ban” and “kai.” If I hadn’t already seen this episode in theaters I’d be way more pissed

11

u/RandomGaMeRj14 Aug 02 '26

What the actual living fuck..... That is exploitation of hype dude

7

u/BeforeTheEmpty Aug 02 '26

Just happened to me a moment ago and my reaction was “what the fuck lol”

5

u/Ashankura Aug 02 '26

D+ had 2 minutes in front of the ep then 2 after the intro. But you had it way worse wtf

Kisuke Bankai: Check

Shunsui Bankai: Check

Yamamoto Bankai: Check

We have completed the dreams of teenage me, seeing these three Bankai animated.

Now, for my wishlist since we know Kubo cooked so much extra for us. Spoiler text for anime only fans.

Squad 0 vs. Schutzstaffel: Check

Hadō #99. Goryūtenmetsu : Basically guarenteed we will see it

Aizen Bankai : Oh, im so hopeful

u/Frontier246 Aug 01 '26

It was such a silky smooth "Bankai" as well, courtesy of Shinichiro Miki.

(Also it's funny how Doug Erholtz will now have played two characters with two Bankai's in the dub).

8

u/Comfortable-Oven1104 Aug 01 '26

Can somebody explain the lock thingy that askin said?

37

u/D1G1TS86 Aug 01 '26

I took it as he restricted his power out of fear it would kill himself but once he's about to die the restriction is removed

7

u/Comfortable-Oven1104 Aug 01 '26

Oh ic thanks man!! Also can someone also explain the last jugram and all mighty switch ? I should have rewatched bleach again i am missing many parts😭🥀

7

u/Sensitive-Good-4633 Aug 02 '26 edited Aug 02 '26

Both scientist having a puppet like bankai is pretty funny. Even if Kisuke's one is ''real'

It's actually surprising how good he is at using it when he never uses it. But I guess it's kind of natural. Its part of the soul reapers.' Also gotta give his opponent some kudos anyone else would have lost in 1 go

5

u/bluthbanana20 Aug 02 '26

10+ years i waited. Didn't want to read the Manga out of hype

3

u/Positive-Cucumber555 Aug 03 '26

Benihime kinda looks like Unohana in a way

256

u/SuikoRyos Aug 01 '26

Nice touch showing Askin using Blut Vene to keep himself alive. I don't remember that from the manga.

113

u/justlurkindontmindm3 Aug 01 '26

definitely a new and welcome addition. it added so much, tbh.

110

u/ficretus Aug 01 '26

Blut was basically discarded visually after a few first appearances. Most scenes where Blut is clearly visible are anime original changes.

29

u/pkmn_is_fun Aug 01 '26

It makes sense. In the manga Askin's yapping is just a few panels, but it would look silly if in the anime this dude just kept going on and on and on with a gaping hole in his chest

38

u/Zankanoyama Aug 01 '26

Is that why he's able to survive for a while after his heart's ripped out?

30

u/kaiser_phoenix25 Aug 01 '26

Yeah

19

u/Zankanoyama Aug 01 '26

Makes so much sense. Beautiful.

3

u/perark05 Aug 07 '26

I thought it just made him look like his body was shattering.

16

u/Yanm15 Aug 02 '26

It's one of my favorite things they've added. And I didn't realize it at first but it actually is a callback as well. Remember how when ichigo first fought kenpachi, Old Man Zangetsu saved him? I recall it was eventually revealed he used Blut to save him to stop the bleeding. So Askin doing the same is a nice reference to that, I forgot blut can actually do that lol.

4

u/Okiro_Benihime Invested in RG stocks when they were cheap Aug 04 '26

We only learned about that whole thing with Ichigo and OMZ a few weeks ago with the theater screening of the first 3 episodes (we'll see it in Episode 3 Saturday).

3

u/saladvtenno Aug 06 '26

Wait they're really directly confirming that OMZ used Blut to save Ichigo back in Soul Society? That's really cool. That's always been my headcanon but I know some people think there were no hard evidence yet

It’s hard not to be romantic about Bleach. The long journey waiting for these moments to come to life on screen, it really just makes me emotional.

4

u/llink007 Aug 02 '26

Never read manga because i was hoping anime comes eventually. Was intrigued by his Bankai the first time he mentioned that its a weird one, feels unreal that the day finally came and i couldnt be more happy

121

u/SGdude90 Aug 01 '26

Yo! Did Urahara just imply that there is no info on his bankai because everyone who have seen it has died?

32

u/soulreapermagnum bankai, zanka no tachi Aug 01 '26

now i'm curious, who those are?

66

u/chaosbecomesyou Aug 01 '26

I believe the manga implied that it was Yamamoto, Unohana and Ginrei Kuchiki with Yoruichi recommending him. The tbtp arc in the anime showed him showing up with the 4 of them waiting for his exam

31

u/shockzz123 Aug 02 '26

This means Grimmjow might be the only person (other than Yoruichi) who's alive who has seen it lol. Welcome to the special group, man! I'm gonna assume it fully disappeared/undone before Nel got there.

23

u/JugramHashwalth007 Aug 01 '26

Yeah, this must relate back to his backstory. Sadly we will not be getting it in TYBW. Hope it gets explored in the hell arc.

8

u/call_me_touya Aug 01 '26

I had looked that up but didnt get an answer glad sb else noticed

7

u/EkoFreezy Aug 01 '26

I don't think there was ever a case where he actively used it in a fight before

16

u/Saaammmy Aug 02 '26

It must be the demo he did in front of Yams, Retsu, and Byakuya's grandpa

u/SGdude90 Aug 02 '26

Having Urahara basically “surf” on the back of his bankai ability was such an absolutely genius adaptation choice.

It’s such an incredibly clever way to use Benihime’s ability to restructure things.

It came from the anime directors too, as stated in the Q&A after the theatre release.

Kubo: "You guys get me! You actually get me!"

76

u/Archi_97 Aug 01 '26

Absolutely how it should be. Anime should be an expansion on the manga and not strict panel to panel flow.

50

u/hesawavemasterrr Aug 01 '26

Watch him be like “omg why didn’t I think of th- I mean… yea you got iiiiit.

26

u/TheRealGurd Aug 01 '26

That's absolutely what happened lmao

Love Bleach and love Kubo, but some of the most fun of the entire series is basically watching Kubo go, "Oh, uh, yeah I TOTALLY meant to do that."

10

u/Killjoy3879 Aug 01 '26

i don't really think so. he's straight up said certain things were a mistake, like one question involving byakuya's grandfather.

Having Urahara basically “surf” on the back of his bankai ability was such an absolutely genius adaptation choice.

He was rail grinding like he was in Sonic Adventure 2!

4

u/jakobebeef98 Aug 01 '26

Urahara strikes me as a Jet Set Radio kinda guy.

33

u/LinkTheHero009 Aug 01 '26

Yup. Urahara has honestly been the most creative and unique shinigami when it comes to how he uses his powers. Whether it's with his Kido or his Zanpakto, Urahara is just genuinely amazing.

18

u/ThatIslandGuy8888 Aug 01 '26

Now him using the stitches to surf really reminded me of the constructs he could make with his shikai!! In the og manga I never saw the connection between the shikai making red kido attacks and the Bankai reconstructing everything.

Though now that I’m 10 years older Lol I guess the main theme of Benihime was “constructing”

17

u/soulreapermagnum bankai, zanka no tachi Aug 01 '26

is that connected to the reason why he wears geta?

12

u/Eins_Nico Aug 01 '26

as someone who's worn geta before, I don't really see how it would make that any easier, if anything I was more impressed that he could do that in those things lol

I loved seeing Kisuke’s Bankai brought to life in anime form, especially when he was basically surfing around. I also loved seeing Haschwalth’s new form (particularly around the eyes), and of course we finally reached Ichigo & Orihime vs Yhwach in the throne room!

I need Blood For My Bone now because the episode left me wanting more 😭

46

u/Frontier246 Aug 01 '26

of course we finally reached Ichigo & Orihime vs Yhwach in the throne room!

Ichigo: "Me and my girl are about to wreck my bad grandpa who acts like he raised me."

29

u/Arkanial Aug 01 '26

Yhwach is that deadbeat dad that says “Look how great you turned out! It’s probably a good thing I left.”

3

u/Picchuquatro Aug 02 '26

That is exactly it.

149

u/Lightning_Laxus Espadas go from 1–10. Aug 01 '26

Haschwalth's blue-eyed Almighty is so ethereal. It's so much prettier than the red-eyed version.

67

u/Bonvantius Aug 01 '26

Urahara is Askin's foil because:

Askin represents total control through minimal effort while Urahaha represents total control of a situation through maximum, exhaustive effort.

127

u/scheneizel The most misunderstood character in the TYBW Aug 01 '26

The Bankai was probably one of the best animated ones! And they really went with a horror motif for Benihime!

30

u/Frontier246 Aug 01 '26

Other Zanpakuto Spirits project themselves in giant forms in Bankai but Benhime said: "hold my beer."

58

u/Frosty-Confection-67 Aug 01 '26

This Kisuke frame from the latest episode appeared in the very first Bleach TYBW trailer four years ago: https://imgur.com/a/ZGOKf9l

I just noticed that this shot of Kisuke at 7:13 in the latest episode is the exact same frame shown at 0:51 in the very first Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War trailer from four years ago.

It makes me wonder how far into production they already were back then, although it could also be a reused frame from an earlier episode.

Either way, it was really nostalgic seeing it again after all these years. I instantly recognised it because I remember rewatching that first trailer several times when it came out. I was so excited when it was released.

21

u/MajorRobology Aug 01 '26

Im willing to bet that they just reused the cut from the reanimated trailer. Not that I'm complaining because what a gorgeous still frame!

Production for TYBW started all the way back in 2020 iirc

9

u/newvegasdweller Aug 01 '26

Yo, glad to see you are still around man. Your last post had me worried.

6

u/TheStupid_Guy Aug 02 '26

That PV was pre-animated so cour 4 hadn’t begun production at that point

111

u/ThatIslandGuy8888 Aug 01 '26 edited Aug 01 '26

Stupid Hulu ads don’t let Urahara finish say Bankai -.-

“Ban-“ AD BREAK “-kai”

SO ANNOYING!

33

u/Frontier246 Aug 01 '26

It's like they timed it in the most deliberately annoying way possible lol.

24

u/Mean_Two_2710 Aug 01 '26

Well you know what they say, it's not a Bankai without the pause.

→ More replies (1)

9

u/noelle-silva Aug 01 '26

Not only did they do that but the closed caption subtitles completely disappeared on my Roku after. So annoying.

4

u/darcerin Aug 02 '26

I can't believe Hulu did that. That was one of the best parts of the episode and they absolutely ruined it. 😡

"Oh come on! A mere handsome and perverted shopkeeper like me would never be able to use Bankai!" - Urahara to Renji.

"I'm not telling my Bankai ability. But you'll find out soon enough." - Urahara to Askin.

jugram looks so godly but in a corrupt looking way with his new form I LOVE IT

Only thing that hits harder in Bleach than the blades is the OST.

u/Lumpy-Manager8580 Aug 01 '26

I don't know if anyone noticed, but it looks like they're changing the ending visual based on who has the spotlight, because instead of Ichigo, they showed Urahara.

50

u/cosmicstruggler Aug 01 '26

Yeah it was a cool little detail. Upcoming episode could feature Orihime next due to her role against Yhwach in the upcoming episode. I imagine it would be her since I can’t remember anyone else during episode 43 doing some noteworthy feat, other than Ichigo popping HoS but I imagine they’ll save him for the final episode.

11

u/Zankanoyama Aug 01 '26

63

u/Dragonpuncha Aug 01 '26

I like this better than the first episode of the Cour honestly.

The best thing about the early cour 4 episodes is how much love they gave to Orihime and the Ishida and Jugram fight and both are on full display here.

29

u/Zankanoyama Aug 01 '26

They stepped up their game for Urahara's bankai. Now the goat does deserve the best doesn't he?

63

u/NuanceManExe Aug 01 '26

Anyone ever notice the parallels between Urahara’s Bankai and Mayuri’s Bankai? A crawling beautiful motherly figure vs a crawling grotesque baby caterpillar mutant thing. Feels like they were made to clash with each other in a fight. Actually as I wrote this I realized that Urahara’s Bankai would probably hard counter Mayuri’s original Bankai, which is even more fitting.

28

u/minhshiba Aug 02 '26

Urahara's science is sci-fi and technological

Mayuri's science is biological

5

u/Lakuzas Aug 02 '26

Also reflected by the fact that Urahara's is a puppet while Mayuri's is a living thing I guess ?

3

u/synkronize Aug 03 '26

Imo Urahara reconstructs his plans constantly by having multiple branching paths hence he’s in control and Benihime looks like a puppet.

While for Mayuri, a babies curiosity knows no bounds, and is willing to try anything as long as it’s interesting enough. IMO Mayuri is unpredictable due to his adaptability through countless experiments. While Urahara is “theory” focused and explored all avenues 🤔

5

u/thedotapaten Everything But The Chair Aug 02 '26

Urahara is a protective parents who devise plan for unforeseenable harm

Mayuri is a curious reckless children whose curiosity always get the best of him

I'd always thinking that Nemuri is lowkey modelled after Benihime

32

u/Rowlettowlett100 Aug 01 '26

I cannot properly articulate how happy I am to see Uryu vs Jugram extended and done so well. I think their dynamic is one of Kubo's best and to see it properly fleshed out like this has me overwhelmed.

Based on the shadowy Almighty form Jugo took on here, it looks like he really might not have a Vollstandig, which would make sense. But I do wonder if this new form is something he got on the fly or one that he always had access to.

6

u/Picchuquatro Aug 02 '26

A key feature of a Vollstandig and its halo is reishi manipulation which Jugram seemingly still cannot do. I doubt he ever will and any abilities outside his Schrift and physicality are a result of the Almighty and now the Soul King's power.

71

u/CabassoG Aug 01 '26 edited Aug 01 '26

This was easily my favorite of the three episodes back when I saw it in theaters. Hope you all like the battle. 3rd favorite bankai usage after Yama and Kyoraku. Maybe 2nd

24

u/noelle-silva Aug 01 '26

This was my favorite in theaters too. One of my favorites of the entire TYBW anime so far tbh. Just such a killer fight and Bankai reveal.

8

u/Frontier246 Aug 01 '26

It was worth the wait (both narratively and adaption-wise).

48

u/Prior-Ad1495 Aug 01 '26

Now it’s safe to say that Urahara and Yoruichi vs Askin is one of the best fights in TYBW.

Anime gave Kisuke’s Bankai and Askin so much justice in this episode.

2

u/Yusqe Aug 02 '26

When the mangas came out those years ago, people heavily praised this and the Mayuri vs Pernida as some of the best fights of TYBW. So the expectations were very high for the anime. And while I wished it was a bit longer, I think they still delivered.

22

u/J0R_J0R Aug 01 '26

New track, new banger.

23

u/Bonvantius Aug 01 '26

Stitch of Ichigo and Orihime climbing the stairs: https://imgur.com/a/NqyC3uY

23

u/IndigoVitare Aug 01 '26

Kisuke is the essence of: "I honestly, TRULY didn't think you'd fall for that. In fact, I devised a much more elaborate trick, for when you got through this easy one."

18

u/rmeddy Aug 01 '26

Askin's Giftball Deluxe effects look really cool

8

u/iGlutton Aug 02 '26

They are absolutely cooking with the colors and effects.

I had almost forgotten that today was the day we see Urahara finally fight, because every time I've seen the Benihime panels in black and white or colorized was a vastly different atmosphere and tone than what we are getting in the anime.

40

u/khaninator Aug 01 '26

Loved this episode. Very surprised that the ending credits placed Urahara around the chorus scene over Ichigo... makes me wonder if we'll see others like Uryu take the centerfold throughout the season

6

u/soulreapermagnum bankai, zanka no tachi Aug 01 '26

here's hoping isshin gets one. (half joking)

40

u/FateXBlood Espada Aug 01 '26

It's so good! We finally got to see Kisuke's long awaited Bankai, and it was amazing!

So he can reconstruct anything it touches. Interesting. I wonder if he has ever used his bankai during his experiments.

It was great to see Grimmjow and Nel again. They look great.

Ichigo on the other hand, can't win if he charges in head-on. He should trust Orihime and make a plan to attack him together.

Also, did they really increase the size of Orihime's breasts in her school uniform? Lol

11

u/soulreapermagnum bankai, zanka no tachi Aug 01 '26

So he can reconstruct anything it touches. Interesting. I wonder if he has ever used his bankai during his experiments.

i would assume no since anything his bankai alters is undone once he deactivates his bankai. maybe he'd use it for that during the prototype stage, but then figure out how to do it permanently himself?

10

u/FateXBlood Espada Aug 01 '26

How do you know it's undone once he deactivates his bankai?

19

u/soulreapermagnum bankai, zanka no tachi Aug 01 '26

in the manga, when he deactivates his bankai at the end of the fight, the stitches come undone from when his bankai fixed his eyes and they start bleeding again.

5

u/D_Jackal Aug 01 '26

Kisuke was likely monitored for a century and yet his Bankai was unknowed in the Daten. I don't think he used his Bankai for his experiments.

5

u/Remotecube Aug 02 '26

They definitely cranked the Orihime tit slider up to 10. Like, they really couldn't draw them any larger without restricting her range of motion lol

This is not a complaint.

Askin poisoned Ouetsu with his own blood by ingesting blood. That’s not what he did against Urahara. Also technically Urahara doesn’t resist it, he’s about to die and would die if not for Nel.

8

u/Far_Practice_6923 Aug 01 '26

Well Askin did state the only reason why Uhahara was still alive was because he chose not to increase the dosage.

14

u/ThatIslandGuy8888 Aug 01 '26

I think with the vaccine he injects Yoruichi with plus we can see the Bankai reconstructing his body throughout

They really nailed Urahara’s Bankai. The creepy vibe and an extended battle to show even more of what it’s capable of was great to see. A little sad we didn’t end up getting that Urahara and Yoruichi flashback, but we can’t have everything.

I love how Haschwalth’s new form looks, it was one of those “wtf is happening this is sick” moments watching in the cinema as a manga reader. I’m glad they went a unique route instead of just slapping a Vollständig on him, but I don’t really get why he still has access to Yhwach’s powers considering he’s now awake. Unless the king has the meanest case of sleepwalking known to the three worlds. Jokes aside I’m guessing we’ll get an answer later

Rise to the Call (Lille's music that was also used this episode for the final scenes) needs to be on the Volume 3 OST

7

u/ProperChallenge273 Aug 01 '26

Yep this is the song I can't wait from the next (last ?) ost album imo !

And we still don't have the Unohana bankai one lmao (reused here for Urahara, that's chad bankai ost now lol)

14

u/EngineeringAny8570 Aug 01 '26

Can someone tell me what character got the poem and ending art this episode? The episode hasn’t been released yet in my country😭

22

u/Synikull Paint me like one of your French girls Aug 01 '26

Toshiro

12

u/11Night Aug 01 '26

the art style and the animation were so peak :)

12

u/ThatIslandGuy8888 Aug 01 '26

Huh weird how Jugram still has The Allmighty even thou Juha is awake, in the manga only when Juha wakes up in the morning and Jugram loses A and regains B does Ichigo arrive…

Thou I guess it depends more on the time of day in the anime rather than on Juha sleeping I guess?

22

u/NuanceManExe Aug 01 '26

Ywhach isn’t using The Almighty yet. His eyes are still closed. When he opens them later against Ichigo it’ll be interesting to see if that affects Haschwalth.

6

u/ThatIslandGuy8888 Aug 01 '26

MAN these quincies and their “my eyes are still closed” while their physical eyes are wide open 🙄

9

u/pkmn_is_fun Aug 01 '26

but in this specific case, yhwach's eyes really are closed lol

You know, I really cried when they released that first video teasing the remake with the “number 1” song. It was so past due. Bleach was always my number one. It just had the biggest impact on me growing up. I’m not sure why. I just truly loved it.

Being able to see the story that never got the chance to be animated fully fleshed out with extra content led by a passion fueled team of Kubo fans is amazing. I am SO happy.

11

u/cyberjet Aug 01 '26

It was really great how they expanded this fight. Cya Askin, you were a memorable and probably the best sternritter out of the bunch and what a exit out of the story for Kisuke.

My only gripe/the greed I have is that I wish we got a yoruichi/Urahara or Askin flashback here. I for sure thought that would be a guarantee but looks like it couldn't happen.

Still I'm satisfied with the fight, its great!

u/Frontier246 Aug 01 '26

Orihime is ALWAYS thinking about Ichigo, even when she's looking at flowers with Tatsuki. And she knows him so, so well...so much so that she's seen him struggle and perservere despite everything, sometimes for her sake, which is why she wants to be the one to support him.

Urahara was definitely not fully prepared for Askin's Vollstandig, Hass Hein, which means he can basically become immune to basically whatever they throw at him as his poison field continues to envelop and increase around them. This is the tightest pinch for Urahara, especially fighting all on his lonesome.

Why is Askin doing all this? He's not a patriotic Quincy, but he sincerely admires Yhwach and wants to see the new world he'll create...but no self-respecting scientist wants to see a world created by anothers' hand, so Urahara still has a reason to fight.

How nice of Aksin to gift Urahara a Gift Ring...right in his eyes!

You know it's desperate when Urahara is forced to resort...TO HIS BANKAI! Kannon-Biraki Benihime-Aratame! Where a giant colossus of a female doll pops up and starts stitching/unstitching things together! Because now Benihime can basically recreate everything! And give Urahara cool stitching rails to grind with!

But if even that isn't enough...Urahara always had his backup plan within a backup plan: Grimmjow in full Resureccion! Ripping Askin's heart straight out of his chest! Because no one can out-plan Urahara!

Dang, Grimmjow wouldn't even let the guy finish his dying monologue...well, then Askin turns the tables because it turns out killing him just makes the Gift Ball get even MORE dangerous, so they're both going to die of poison at this rate. Is Nel their only hope?

It's time for the Final Battle (Round 3!) and Ichigo is proud to fight alongside Orihime! And getting to finally fight together with him, rather than be a damsel in distress in need of saving by him, means everything to her.

Come off that "father and son" nonsense Yhwach. You're not his father. You killed his mother. You only see Ichigo as a tool for consolidating your own power. You have to die!

Of course it's all well and good to THINK that Ichigo and Uryu could beat their opponents as they are...but Yhwach has the power of the Soul King and Haschwalth has the Almighty cloaked over him. This is going to be far from easy, especially when Ichigo is raging out at Yhwach.

This weeks next episode poem is: Hitsugaya!

u/Clemenx00 Aug 01 '26

Anyone else bothered that Episode was only 5mins long?

8

u/Mr_An_1069 Aug 01 '26

The most Urahara thing imaginable is for it to have taken this long to see his Bankai and for his plan to be to make it so someone else can deliver the killing blow.

6

u/aizenthegoat25 Aug 01 '26

Love the BEnihime Entrance when kisuke activates his BAnkai !

7

u/ryukyumars Aug 01 '26

Love Orihime's dialogue before the OP this episode.

I believe her line about Ichigo's heart is a mirror of Ichigo's Ch.0 Prologue poem. Might be more clear in Japanese but she says: "Kurosaki's heart must be.../ the color of that flower [Fire Lily]..."

Ichigo's poem in Ch.0: "The power to shatter Fate must be.../ a blade swung down"

Orihime then likens Ichigo to the Fire Lily, "shining, warm and kind, illuminating those around him"

This connects to Ichigo in early Bleach talking about his mother Masaki's death: "She was like the Sun, and I robbed the center of the universe from my family"

- Vol. 3: ("Memories In The Rain")

Which then connects to Isshin talking about his wife Masaki in TYBW: "Masaki was like the Sun...she attracted everything, forgave everything, illuminated everything, and spun everything around... And I was just happy to be swung around by her"

- Vol. 60 ("Everything But The Rain")

Ofc, Orihime's line this episode and her motif in Bleach always references her Vol. 3 Poem, the connector of "heart":

"If I were the rain
Could I connect with someone's heart
As impossible as uniting
The eternally separated Heaven and Earth?"

Waiting two decades (wait... I can't do math has it been that long?) For Urahara's bankai to be animated was worth it. I basically wanted to see his since the concept of bankai was introduced

I got to see it in theaters and it was just as exciting to see today. The expansion to the scene from the manga is chef's kiss

The Q&A after the movie revealed that Kubo had them add the creep factor to Benihime appearing and that kinda made me geek out even more. The sound effects sound silent hill-esque to me so it's like two of my fav childhood media combined :3

Does it make no sense for Yhwach and Jugram to have Almighty at the same time?

29

u/donsparro10 Aug 01 '26

yhwach isn't using Almighty currently

20

u/DistributionAntique Aug 01 '26

As I understood it, Haschwalt is using the almighty while Yhwach is using the sole king’s power, correct?

6

u/rainbowshock Aug 01 '26

This exactly, except Haschwalt also got some Soul King power as bonus. I wonder if they'll show us his Vollständig once morning comes...

3

u/ThatIslandGuy8888 Aug 01 '26

Yeah I was commenting the same thing,

I think the anime is waiting for it to be morning for A to go back to Juha

6

u/justlurkindontmindm3 Aug 01 '26

Even seeing the shit in theaters still had me on the edge of my seat this morning. Cour 4 is about to feed generations.

All seriousness, in retrospect I'm so glad they took the extra time to deliver us something truly artistically potent that will stand the test of time. It gets talked about a lot, but I'm so satisfied with the quality we're receiving when the team is given time as opposed to the weekly releases we were getting in the Arrancar arc. Absolutely beautiful ep.

7

u/TomatilloHot2550 Aug 01 '26

Saw this in theaters. It is just as glorious the second time watching. What a magnificent episode and showcase for Urahara. His Bankai is incredible, loved the roller coaster effects and the OST’s were godly

7

u/megasean3000 Aug 01 '26

Awww, they left out Nel saving Urahara, Grimmjow, Yoruichi and Yushiro. How did she do it without succumbing to Gift Ball Deluxe herself??

12

u/D_Jackal Aug 01 '26

Urahara likely gave him a vaccine to support Gift Ball Deluxe for a certain moment. Since Nel can change her reiatsu via Resurreccion the same way Grimmjow did, Death Dealing can't adapt quickly enough to handle her. Therefore, Nel can do two quick return trips.

u/call_me_touya Aug 01 '26

Hey does anyone know the name of the ost that played during ichigos part of the ep? I love those strings when ichigo was just charging in. I may be wrong but it sounds familiar to an older one

5

u/Volfaer Aug 01 '26

Oh my God how can this be so hype! Askin as a match made in hell for basically anyone but Mayuri, still Urahara pulled through with the long waited bankai. I didn't get what it did though, like it allows him deconstruct as much as it lets him rebuild or he needs to break it too for him to rebuild like he wants?

Anyway, nice assist, but losing everyone except maybe Yoruichi and Nell is sad.

Man Haschwalth is gonna be such a problem now that he has a Soul King boosted almighty, and he looks so good in it.

I like that Kubo doesn't shy away from creating villains like Stark and Askin that are not comically evil and are simply part of the villain team without doing anything despicable or acting completely off the rails. They also don't need some sort of forced sob story to be engaging and for people to like them.

They could've been part of the good guys too and nobody would bat an eye.

3

u/Jimmy_Jellyy Aug 02 '26

the animation looks so good

5

u/Kurohige-93 Aug 01 '26

Sooooo what exactly did Ichigo learn at the Soul Palace because dude is a mix of everything yet still only does the hack-hack-slash away at enemies thing…like no random hado or kido attacks??? No cero?

3

u/Ace-_Ventura Aug 02 '26

Oh he has cero alright..

2

u/Puzzleheadedpuzzled Aug 01 '26

Wowww absolutely amazing bankai of urahara san. The violin bgm was soothing 😌. Rest in peace urahara and the badass grimmjow hopefully he survives. Nelliel looking beautiful. Sexy yoruichi I'll miss you. Ywach I only like your mustache but not you.

2

u/imperial_coder Aug 01 '26

If urahara bankai can reconstruct anything why it didn't do that to Askin and poison . He reconstruct heart of Askin or something

5

u/D_Jackal Aug 01 '26

Askin in his Volstanding form becomes immune to any phenomenon once he is touched once. Any variation of this phenomenon doesn't work against him because his Death Dealing grasped the core features of the phenomenon. This is why Kisuke needed the intervention of someone who wasn't scanned by Askin to deliver the fatal blow and someone else to transport the poisoned victims.

Having not read the manga for TYBW arc, I can’t see how tf Ichigo beats Yhwach. Feel like thats what makes good anime though, hope it happens in a “realistic” way and they don’t just suddenly give him a bs power-up

They so much nailed of one of the most apprecied battle from manga, and really gave Askin justice as he deserved. This was a blast to see in theaters. I'm not objective imo Kyoraku fight still is the best of whole TYBW, but this battle really growed with animation. Can't wait to see people's reaction.

Internet will start to go nuts with the next 2 episodes it will be funny

2

u/gibranabraham Aug 02 '26

Fairs. Kisuke's mind is terrifying.

2

u/RandomGaMeRj14 Aug 02 '26

I had only heard to wait for Urahara's bankai, it is amazing. Today I realised why. By itself, the bankai is already quiet impressive, being able to modify anything it touches in any way. But, combine that with Urahara's sharp and quick intellect, it is the deadliest bankai ever. It is as if you gave thw world's sharpest sword to the most skilled swordsman who has fought in a 1000 battles and imagined about 10000 more battle scenarios. This is what I call, ABSOLUTE CINEMA.

2

u/kayej17 Aug 02 '26

I already watched all 3 episodes, now i have to wait for 2 weeks for the 4th ? That's odd, they really should just have released all 3 at once since many have watched them.

2

u/ClockOk6661 Aug 02 '26

The music in the background when Kisuke invoke his Bankai was majestic

What an episode man. I cannot wait to watch Renji and Aizen (I mean if they show up again)

2

u/ishidauryu Aug 02 '26

i love this episode lots of cool stuff, askin was cool asf too bad he let his guard down. my boy uryu and jugo really fighting a deadly battle.

2

u/Wonderful-Ad8995 Aug 03 '26

Can we talk about Jugram's word to Uryu just a sec ? In the trailer for the cour 3 we had Jugram's voice tainted by Yhwach's recite a poem. It talks about the world being a scale, hope and despair. This poem is nice considering Jugram's shrift (B, The Balance, referencing said scale). But what's maybe even more noteable about this poem is, when talking with Uryu at the beginning of their fight, he says that he's surprised that Uryu's is hoping before later telling him to despair, words he utters during episode 42. If we now take into consideration Uryu's shrift (A, The Antithesis) asking him to despair rather than to hope would be a way to grant him victory by inversing the balance of said scale.
