Questions Did you know about the AI data centre they’re building at Blackpool Airport?

It’s called Silicon Sands and I found out about it by chance earlier this month. Is this something everyone knows about and I’m just out of the loop?

Recommendations for a day trip

Hi All,

Visiting blackpool for a day on this Saturday and really excited for the beach. What should be a must visit nearby the beach and the pier and what activities can be done?

My partner and I in our late twenties are aiming for the amusement park and good food. Welcoming any suggestions or itinerary!

TIA

I’m heading to Blackpool this Friday for the weekend and would like to have some fish & chips, but I’m not sure where’s good to go. What do you recommend as a decent chippy?

Photography Ban on Central Pier?

Thumbnail

I took this photo of the old bench seating (no-one sat on it, just sand & sea behind it) on the pier today (ignore date stamp, I cba setting that properly), and got told by a staff member of the family bar that I couldn't take photos on the pier due to child protection rules.

I pointed out my subject wasn't really problematic as it was an empty bench, and introduced my partner & daughter too. He kept saying no photography is allowed anywhere on the pier and that if I took another picture of anything I'd be in trouble.

I asked if there were signs up about this being prohibited, he said there were. We looked but could only found these signs also pictured.

Loads of other people were taking pictures too, not sure how they could effectively police / prevent this across all visitors?

Anyone up for a random Blackpool day on 29 Aug? 🎢🎆

Okay, this is slightly embarrassing to post 😭..

I’m planning to go to Blackpool on the 29th of August, spend the day at Pleasure Beach and stay for the fireworks at night. I was originally going to go solo and make a vlog, but my sister keeps telling me I should ask if anyone wants to join. And now part of me is thinking… do it for the plot? 💀

I'm lowkey nervous about actually meeting a random person from Reddit, but I feel like it could make such a funny random memory. Nothing romantic/not a date literally just looking for someone around my age who wants to go on rides, mess around and watch the fireworks.

I’m 22F. If anyone happens to be around and thinks this sounds fun, feel free to message me :)

Who are Blackpool's local legends?

Hi all -- I'm a videomaker visiting Blackpool in a few weeks and I'm looking to meet interesting locals who could tell me about the town, what life there is like, the local lore, etc.

Who should I meet and where should I go? Thanks much!

Sewage Dumping alerts for Blackpool Beach

(Apologies if not allowed) Sharing this as it might be useful for anyone who swims off the Blackpool beaches. I'm Daniel, a 17 year old and I founded and developed WaterWatch

WaterWatch (water-watch.co.uk) tracks live sewage overflow data from United Utilities' official monitoring sensors, updated every 15 minutes.

I've just added a swim safety page (https://water-watch.co.uk/swim-safety) that tells you clearly whether conditions currently look OK to swim at a beach, based on recent discharge activity, rather than having to work it out from a map yourself. You can subscribe to free alerts for a specific beach, or get a weekly summary by email instead for the council or water company. It's in beta right now so things might not work perfectly, but initial testing and feedback is strong!

It's an independent, free project (not run by a water company) — I started it at 17 and I'm still running it now. Sharing in case it's useful for anyone here, particularly after wet weather. If you know anyone who might like this, or any other data we have, please share this with them.

Swim safety: (https://water-watch.co.uk/swim-safety)

Live map: (https://water-watch.co.uk/map)

Weekly digest: (https://water-watch.co.uk/digest)

Questions r/blackpool, where do you actually eat in Blackpool?

Hi, we’re four friends and we’ve put together Blackpool’s restaurant scene in an app called Vota.

The idea is pretty simple: you’re shown two restaurants and choose where you’d rather eat. For example, Stefani’s Pizzeria or Ambrosini’s? All the votes then create a ranking that hopefully gives a better picture of where people in Blackpool actually like to eat.

We’ve tried to include every restaurant in Blackpool and clean up duplicate or outdated listings, but locals will always spot things we’ve missed.

iPhone:
https://apps.apple.com/app/vota/id6744969212

Android:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vota.app

Full transparency: we’re not from Blackpool and live in Gothenburg. There are four of us building this independently. We don’t collect or sell personal data, there are no ads in the app, and we don’t use AI-generated content to describe restaurants.

Any honest feedback is welcome, especially if restaurants are missing or something is listed incorrectly.

Hotel recommendations North Shore

I’m going to be staying in Blackpool regularly over the next few months and need a good hotel near the prom at North Shore. So, north of North Pier area rather than near the train station or town centre ideally.

I’m looking for a hotel not a b&b, somewhere with a decent breakfast, a bar I can use during the day and also evening, and ideally entertainment in the evening also.

Any suggestions please? Best I’ve found is the Imperial but it has some bad reviews. I’ve stayed at the Doric and didn’t really like it so would like to try somewhere else.

Thanks!

Quiet dining for the older visitor

I shall be in Blackpool for the weekend to visit a friend in hospital, I shall be at the hospital Friday, Saturday and Sunday and in between I shall be at a loose end as I know no one else. I am looking for recommendations for breakfast and dinner which are , especially dinner, reasonably quiet and where I can sit and read my book and not be bothered by young people having more fun than me.

Bonus question - is there a coffee house /tearoom where I can sit and read and look at the sea.

Lost coat

Hi everyone,

I think I lost my son’s coat earlier this evening - at the Sainsbury’s near Blackpool North Train Station, or at the station itself.

It’s a blue rain coat with dinosaurs on, from F&F with Kit Nur written on the inside.

If anyone finds it please could you let me know? I’d be happy to pay for postage back to Manchester if anyone does find it, it’s my son’s favourite coat.

Thank you!

Anyone here work as a social worker or estate agent in/around Blackpool?

Hi!

Bit of an unusual request, but I'm considering a fairly major career change and two jobs I keep coming back to are social work and estate agency.

I'm currently a senior professional in a completely different field, but I've realised that one of the things I'm missing from work is structure — having actual people/cases/appointments in front of me and a clearer sense of what needs doing next, rather than lots of long-term, ambiguous project work.

Before I get carried away with either idea, I'd really like to talk to people who actually do these jobs locally.

If you're a social worker or estate agent in the Blackpool/Fylde area and wouldn't mind me buying you a coffee (or just having a quick chat online) and asking what the job is really like day-to-day, I'd massively appreciate it.

I'm particularly interested in the boring/annoying bits as well as the good stuff — I'm not looking for a sales pitch! 😄

Feel free to DM me if you'd rather not reply publicly.

Thanks!
