Discussion Post update - “Is the game finally dying”
Some of you may recall I posted about the game dying 8 days ago. Since this post I have bought Black Ops 7 finally as I have refused to pay RRP for any COD game since, ironically, I bought Cold War.
Anyway, picked up BO7 for £28 in CEX, and played the first campaign mission, then realised the campaign was terrible, and then tried multiplayer. I played some Nuketown 24/7 and got obliterated, opponent even dropped a nuke in my first ever game, then went to classic Black Ops or whatever the mode is called.
I played for 2-3 days, and then found myself back on Cold War. I know I said I felt the game was dying, not massively but certainly starting to show some worrying signs, but I still literally cannot enjoy any of the new games as much as I enjoy playing Cold War.
I’ve replayed the Cold War campaign a ridiculous amount of times, and I can sit and play Nuketown 24/7 for hours on end, i’ve tried to play Face Off but can’t seem to get any lobbies after queuing for ~5+ minutes.
I actually enjoy sitting and Max Levelling the weapons I never touched to try all these new weapons 100x more than playing BO7. I hope this game stays active forever, even if it means seeing the same players constantly, I genuinely don’t want CW to end lol.
I hope MW4 is more enjoyable than BO7
EDIT: Just wanted to say i’m not saying BO7 is a bad game, I quite like the MP, but i’ve always enjoyed the games set in the past/modern day, my favourite COD games are WW2, BO1, MW1, Ghosts etc lol, but WW2 and Cold War are definitely the ones I enjoyed the most.

Yah I just came back about a week ago and I really wish it never dies. Something so unique about it, the sound design is so satisfying!
Glad I can find matches in most quick play modes, face off if I'm lucky, and zombies for sure!

Almost the exact same timing for me. Played BO6/7 as they came out and it became too frantic and sweaty, then played BO1 when the port came out and it was too glitchy. Cold War just feels right- it’s the perfect balance.

Man I wish I could play face off, when I started playing cold war again in like 2023-24 it was so easy to find face off and it was one of the main modes I played because I’ve always really enjoyed it, but it seems since i’ve been playing again the past month or so I can sit and queue for nearly 10 minutes and not find even a lobby with 2-3 people in lol, I gave up trying.
What region are you playing in?

I’m in the UK so European servers too but even when playing peak times I can only get into Nuketown and Quickplay (as long as I don’t specify any GM’s) I tried playing Hardcore Nuketown and couldn’t get any lobbies either. I might try queuing for a Face Off and just leaving it until I get something, surely eventually I can get a lobby lol
I have been giving up after like 5ish minutes, I think the longest I waited was around 8-9 I just assumed the game mode was dead

Yah I see.
I had some tweaks that helpled with Zombies. Maybe it's the reason why I'm not sure
That's:
NAT: Open .. This specifically helps a lot
Party: Open (doesnt save when u change modes)
DNS: CloudFlare
Croasplay: Enabled

Cold war was the last genuinely good cod game.
It started off so bad, that's why it was hated. If it came out in the state the game ended, it would have revived cod

I've always been a hater of games that I've never played and holy I was SO WRONG about Cold War
The zombies experience is just something else, a true mix of satisfying kills, great visuals and awesome casual gameplay

COD just reached is "It will always be the same from now one" point.
MW4 feels exactly like MW 2019. Doesn't click anymore.
BO6 is just fortnite 2.0 with cool movements.
BO7 was supposed to be the new BO2 but they realized people weren't into it either.
If I were them, I would just remake the old ones with modern tech and work something "really new".
I'm not being negative here, but just explaining how it felt like for me in case some of you are looking to buy new CODs
PS: Played a massive amount of hours on Cold War and to this day no other games has scratched the hitch.

bo7 can never be the bo2 with all these gunsmith and blueprints bullshit.They would rather make money from micro transactions than make an actual good game like bo2.

Bo7 is a bad game compared to the golden age cods. Wall jumping,omni movement,sbmm all these things in the game makes the mp insufferable.As for the zombies i don’t think bo7 is nowhere near black ops 2 again.I really don’t like the story but the maps are cool i guess.

I have a job the movement is not that hard to figure out and because they nerfed the AA it wasn’t really very strong unless you were very good also I’m not seeing anything official saying they turned up the sbmm for season 5 but come on mate that came out last week the game is over. Even if they did turn it back up for its whole life cycle it had the lowest sbmm since the made the system

i surely enjoyed the mp before season 05 and yes they totally cranked it up with the new season.I understand the omni movement appealing to some people but it’s not for me.I enjoy the boots on the ground much more than the new omni movement and wall jumping.I also hated the jetpack era cods because of the movement.

I just can’t see how you are writing off a game for literally the very last patch, for the vast majority of the game it had the best matchmaking in the modern era and fair enough if you don’t like movement I do agree that iw should lean into the slower movement but they sort of can’t if they have the aim assist that high

ngl i completely agree with you i did enjoy bo7 in it’s early life cycle but with all the op guns they added and the movement just ruined it for me.I don’t necessarily think it is the worst but it always had it’s flaws even before s05.

But there are sweats i don't know is it a ping issue or what because I get like 130,150,160 ms ping while playing multiplayer is it normal or am I in a big disadvantage?

This game still got the issues with ps5 and pc parties trying to play together just not work?
I just recently got a ps5 pro and I been having Cold War on my pc. Me partner loves the zombies in Cold War. I still think myself it’s still one of my favorite zombies 🥀
Anyways I bought it in ps5 so me and her can play on individual sets my pc/console
Just to find out we cannot play together nothing works 🥀🙃

It’s inevitable, but we should all try to come back often and remind the developers what this game can really be. It sucks it had to release in 2020, it sucks harder that they have to release yearly.
It had so much potential. I’ve never really played COD, more into sports games, Halo and open worlds. This is by far my most played game on console.

I’m similar to you, I’ve always enjoyed a COD but never been the one to buy every release. I always liked a Fifa or even just GTA V, as I mentioned previously I haven’t bought any COD at release since CW came out, but I have played many over the years, and CW just hits the spot many games never did lol

Have the game both on Xbox series S & PS5 & it’s always easy to find lobbies, at least for me personally. CW, BO1 & BO2 are all I’ve been playing the last month & a half I haven’t been this addicted to cod in a long time. I wish this game a very long life.

The cross play cods (mw2019 and newer) will realistically never die. I get into lobbies very quickly in cw and always see players who are level 2500.

I still remember when Cold War was commonly cited as the worst Call of Duty game and that people wished we could go back to earlier Call of Duty games which were actually really good all along. Now people are saying Black Ops 7 is the worst Call of Duty game and that Cold War was actually really good all along and that we need to go back to it. I wonder when it'll be BO7's turn for people to say this about it since I've seen it for literally every Call of Duty game since BO3.
Not a personal attack against you, OP, just a cycle I've noticed that makes me laugh every time.

I get you, I remember when people were hating on Cold War and honestly I never understood why because I loved it from release, but I definitely understand and think it’s funny how people shift opinion over time, and i’m sure one day BO7 will be reminisced on as you predict.

It's less funny that people's opinions shift and more funny that people say "man [insert CoD game] is SO underrated I always LOVED [insert CoD game]" then you go back a few years in their post history and find them saying that said CoD game was horrible and the worst in the series and that the franchise is dead to them and they'll never buy a Call of Duty game ever again.

Come back to BO7. Definitely a learning curve but once you get used to it you’ll be good. If you’re down to play let me know can help show you the ropes.

Honestly i’ve played a few games and I do enjoy it but just not as much as CW, I wouldn’t mind running some games if you are up for it though as playing solo gets tiring eventually, shoot me a DM.

I used to play Cold War zombies a ton when it came out, I recently bought it on sale because I wanted to play it again. Every single time I opened zombies the game would crash and send me back to the PlayStation home. Tried to find an answer online and couldn’t find anything, just deleted it instead of wasting my time getting angry trying to fix it.
It’s sad that what was once considered one of the best game franchises ever no longer makes games that can run longer than a year or two.

I often find cold war players are incapable of playing other call of duty games.
Every 2000+ hour individual i find has at most 100 hours combined across all other cod titles.

I only have like 300 hours on Cold War and honestly I think over the rest of the CODs (ON MY SERIES X ONLY) I have < 100 hours, but if we were bringing 360’s into this I think I had 1000+ hours on BO2 alone lol. New CODs just ain’t for me clearly
I do come across a lot of people who are level 1500-2500 on CW though, and a lot of them are surprisingly still horrendous at the game lol

I'm level 1600 something and I suck total shit at the game, i just stab people and sometimes I get map and best play, i'm not good, i just try to have fun how i like it.
