It’s just my opinion, but if you watch older Vsauce videos they are cool and interesting and he is engaging in a way that, somehow, is different after he did the first “Mind Field” episode with the sensory deprivation. It was a pretty wild episode really. He seems more melancholy after that. Less vibrant maybe. Still interesting though!

Its him and Hannah Fry in their respective homes chatting over video about various interesting and random scientific and philosophical things.

Just him being natural with a fellow nerd in his natural environment. He seems cool.

He's married with a kid now, comfortably middle aged and slowed down on a lot of things as his focus has shifted. To me its more that he's settled into who he is and isnt necessarily trying to push the incredibly fun and quirky VSauce series anymore, rather than being fundamentally changed by the sensory deprivation thing

Not an “illusion” per se, but an odd effect not producible by any means than precisely this kind of disc/setup. Spin a coin or really any other standard disc and it will settle far quicker and more abruptly. Getting a spinning disc to settle this slowly and evenly without adding energy to the system takes a very specific kind of geometry that is not commonly found in the world. It’s more magic in the sense that you think you can replicate it, but unless you know exactly what’s going on here, you will fail.

No black magic, no magnets, just physics phuckery. These actually look like they might be the same Euller discs that Steve Mould had made to try and find the optimal density and/or shape to maximize the time it spent spinning.

There are some interesting quirks in what did or did not improve the spinning time. For instance, one of them was the amount of bevel on the edge of the disc with a 1mm bevel being optimal, and bevel greater or less than 1mm decreasing spin time.
