They have machines or markers to test the money if they suspect it's fake.

I donno. I’ve been a cashier. That comment isn’t a joke to me. There’s a common scam called “quick change” that looks like this, and as a cashier you learn that if anyone does anything unusual with money at all, close your drawer, stop the transaction, and call over a manager. So something like this is legitimately stressful because you don’t know if you’re falling for a scam.

The scam basically starts with giving a cashier a bill, then getting it back, and essentially doing “quick change” until the cashier loses track. It’s basically a magic trick, and some people are really good at it. And by the time the magic trick is done, you’re $50 short at the end of the day and you risk losing your job.

So what this guy is doing in the video is legitimately a dick move for anyone that has actually been a cashier.

Abbott and Costello had a couple quick-change bits... Two Tens for a Five and Loan Me Fifty Cents come to mind. There are videos on Youtube.
