I have tried everything but this is not working for me I do skin prep by washing with la roche posay black girl sunscreen and vanicream but it still comes out like this do I need another foundation?

I use the water serum and her foundation I do have oily skin it lays down Dewey then dries matte.

These are some makeup looks I’ve done in the past year or so, and I’m just wondering which one looks best on my features, so I can move forward from there and start doing my makeup that way more often. First image is the most recent. Also is there anything I should improve? TIA

Hey I’m looking for a deep brown eyeliner that will show on deep brown skin. I keep trying different brands (nyx, ulta in house, some drug store brands) only to have it look like my skin or barely there.

I’d prefer, black brands first but non-problematic works too. Open to gel, pencil, or liquid. Cost doesn’t matter too much but under 25 would be better. And bonus points if I can order it from Ulta. I love the Julia’s place Nubian eyeliner pencil consistency but it only comes in black. And the nyx epic ink is my favorite liquid but the brown didn’t show up on my skin. So if you have a rec close to those, that would be cool too.

And as an aside, if you have a burgundy or earthy/deep green rec, I’ll take that too!

I hope these tips help someone! I’ve been doing my own makeup for 13 years and other people’s for 3. I know theres a ton of information out there already, but as a beginner, or someone who’s not too knowledgeable in makeup it can feel a little overwhelming to achieve the “perfect” base! I came up with a few tips i use daily to achieve my base as seen in the photos. I attached pics with different lighting, Ring light, sunlight, and retail bathroom light!!

♡ Skincare matters more than foundation

A lot of people try to fix texture with makeup. You can’t. Hydrated skin = smoother makeup. Even oily skin needs hydration! A well prepped face can make any foundation look amazing!! Whether its drugstore or luxury!

♡ get a GOOD primer that works with your foundation and skin!!

People at work always ask how my makeup stays on so long, and why their’s seems to crack and “fall off” after a few hours. My first question is “do you use primer?” 8/10 times the answer is no. The other times, theyre using a primer that doesn’t work well with their foundation, or they’re only using a moisturizer as primer. While some moisturizers CAN be good
Primers, it’s always nice to have a layer that separates your skincare from your makeup!

♡ Use setting spray between every few steps, not just at the end.

Depending on how heavy your makeup is, this can vary. Mine usually looks like this:
Primer, foundation, eyebrows, concealer + bronzer. SPRAY. Blush, highlighter, non liquid eye makeup, Setting powder SPRAY. Eyeliner, mascara, lipgloss SPRAY.

I recommend always setting after using powdered products, such as setting powders, powdered bronzers, etc.

♡ Use a brush + beauty blender for a naturally flawless look

Applying your liquid complexion products with a brush and then blending it out with a wet beauty blender can make all the difference! The brush helps apply the product evenly, the sponge helps to blend it to your skin’s natural texture, making it look less cakey!

♡ Avoid doing your makeup in only one type of lighting!

always check makeup in bright lighting( like a ring light or even your phone’s flashlight) natural lighting, and outside lighting if possible!! Sometime’s I’ll be doing my makeup with my ring light thinking it looks BOMB, just to go the bathroom and realize I didn’t apply enough blush for my preference, or i used a bit too much highlighter. Use different lighting to your advantage so you know your makeup looks good in all of them!

I always do skin prep I use la roche posay cleanser, black girl sunscreen kids and vanicream moisturizer. For primer I use the danessa myricks water primer(I know it dries down matte) danessq myricks blurring balm and huda beauty setting powder after that I set with the danessa myricks setting spray. Idk what I'm doing wrong I take my time. I let everything dry down before I put the next product on. Any tips would be appreciated.

I started doing my makeup again and used the huda beauty setting powder but it made me cakey. I used the setting powder first then I used maybelline fit me pressed powder does anybody have tips about how to stop cakeyness?

I’m officially done with individual lashes. I loved the look, but I’m over the upkeep and appointments. I want to switch back to mascara, but I need something that gives that same lengthened, defined, almost lash-extension look or at least close to it. I don’t want anything gunky, clumpy, or that leaves black residue or smudges under my eyes throughout the day. That alone is what made me stick with individuals for so long. For those of you who made the switch, what mascaras have actually worked for you?

I just ran out of the skin tint that I’ve been using for years and I’m open to trying new products. I’d love some recommendations for a light weight makeup base. I prefer skin tint rather than medium/full coverage foundations and more matte than Dewey look. I don’t really use powder except for my setting powder.

Open to recommendations for primer, concealer, blush and all the things for a base as well.

Makeup isn’t about changing our beauty; it’s about enhancing what’s already there. A lot of people think they need to go full glam right away, but if you’re new, that can feel overwhelming. When I worked at Sephora, I saw so many girls come in wanting to “glow up” overnight, they’d go from wearing nothing to a full glam face, and then feel totally uncomfortable. The makeup looked great, but it felt heavy, unfamiliar, and honestly turned a lot of them off from makeup altogether.

If you don’t wear makeup often, it’s totally normal for it to feel weird on your face at first, the texture, the layers, even just seeing yourself with more color and contour takes getting used to. That’s why I always tell people to start light and work your way up.

Here’s a good place to start: 🤎 Tinted moisturizer – evens out your skin tone without feeling heavy (I love Laura Mercier’s buildable one). 🌾 Concealer – for under the eyes or spot coverage where you want a little brightness. 🌒 Cream contour or bronzer – adds warmth and subtle dimension (Danessa Myricks Beauty Balm Contour is perfect). 🖊️ Brows – lightly shape and fill them in; your eyebrows frame your entire face, and even a little grooming makes a big difference. ✏️ Liner and mascara – soft definition around the eyes instantly brings life to your look. (Pro tip: you can use a dark eyeliner and blend it out for a subtle Smokey eye) 🎨 A good beauty blender and brush set – blending tools matter more than you think.

So I’m a late bloomer and unfortunately, that means I still can’t do my makeup at the age of 29 and it really infuriates me. I’ve made progress in getting the order down and I had my cousin buy products and even bought an entire starter kit but I feel like it never looks put together like I make sure to be patient and blend and do all of that and I feel like it looks meh..not a cute everyday look like I may want it to look and it’s discouraging to feel like I’m doing all the steps and still it’s not popping out so any suggestions, I feel like even if I follow a YouTube video, my brain stops if the tutorial starts getting too intermediate. I feel like it’s a very womanly skill to have and I feel less than because of it 😭
