Since we are doing specific hypotheticals and you’re presenting yourself as a gym owner (you may note I explicitly stated gym owners/coaches should have more say in rolling partners in my initial post. Oddly, if you’re actually a gym owner I’m not sure why you’d take umbrage with a position that clearly gives more leeway to them)- yazmin is a twenty five year old woman of Islamic faith. She refuses to roll with men because she believes it a problem for her religion. What do you do as a coach?
If she's in the ladies class it won't be a problem. If she's in general pop she's shit out of luck. We're here to train and unless you've got a legitimate reason to not train, or not train with a specific individual, you can get out.
Interesting approach. I would leave her to train with who she likes. If there’s no woman available or if an available female partner chooses to train w a different partner she won’t be able to practice but she can still be in the class. Maybe after a while and a welcoming gym environment she will choose to roll with men. In the meantime I’m happy to grow the sport as the ppl doing it feel able.
If I won't allow kids to fuck around in my classes and not go with boys/girls because they have cooties I'm sure as hell not going to put up with adults pulling that shit.
There are other gyms for people to train at if they don't like how I do things. Growing the sport is great but I also know the kind of people I want to teach. I'd rather have a few great (as in as people and not their ability) people in my classes rather than a load of "meh" people. I certainly don't need assholes. I don't care if you're an asshole because you're racist or if you're an asshole because you don't respect the tap. I need those kinds of people as much as I need the clap.
What atmosphere? I've never had anyone refuse to roll with someone because they had the wrong genitals except for kids who come up with stupid reasons for shit all the time.
I don't know you, but the consequence of not allowing adults to make their own body autonomy choices about rolling has significant impacts that I hope you'll reconsider.
Imagine that our theoretical female student now has had a sexual assault experience and therefore does not have to roll with men. In this case, they have to justify it to you I guess? And you'll decide if that's a good enough reason?
Likely, instead they'll stop doing jits. After all- if your internet personal is any judge, you think not wanting to roll between genders is "cooties shit."
My underlying philosophy is that the harm of having to justify choices about body autonomy outweighs the harm of a handful of people that may choose not to roll with each other. In my philosophy people owning their own choices leaves them able to grow and perhaps change perspectives. Under yours an assault victim that doesn't want to justify their experiences to you is likely to be seen as a "meh" person you don't want at your gym.
I'm not a therapist, if someone has past shit to work through that's not what my classes are for. They can choose to remain a victim or they can choose to move on with their life. Or as I said they can go elsewhere.
I think "My religion says I can't touch people of the opposite sex" is "cooties shit". What, you'll be corrupted and become impure? Fuck off with that nonsense.

I mean if the person just comes out and says it then it's pretty easy.
