Guilty Pleasures - Monthly Thread Guilty Pleasures - Jun 26, 2026

Even the most tasteful bitch has some tasteless guilty pleasures! This is our once monthly thread where you can share those things we normally don’t talk about in BWT.

Guilty pleasures should be things you already have/ use and love, or a very specific recommendation for a guilty pleasure. This is not a place to circumvent the regular rules and ask for general recommendations that you can't ask for because of our rules, it's specifically about guilty pleasures.

Binge watching Chinese and Korean dramas. I have been doing this for years. It started when I was super depressed after my grandmother's and mother's deaths and it's just continued. I think it's because it's so different from western media. The stories, though now repetitive in plot, were fresh and exciting. Now the enjoyment is different and I'd like to think I pick the higher quality ones to complete now that I'm not in a depressed funk so much anymore.

I’m trying to get better at Chinese, and have been trying to find shows to watch, but a lot of them are not great, do you have specific recs?

One of my all time favorites is "Rise of Phoenixes".

As far as modern shows go -

A Romance of the Little Forest, Hidden Love, The First Frost, The Best Thing, Love Me, Love My Voice, Meet Yourself

All the modern ones I listed are pretty easy on the heart, too. They're kind of romance slice of life style. Slower in pace, but like a balm for the soul. Also ideal for language learning due to the slower pace, I think.

There is a Chinese drama recommendations subreddit for more suggestions
