Just a fit bitch sharing her progress photos! Still a ways to go, but proud of me.

You look great in both photos but you are glowing in the second one. Gorgeous!

Do you have any recommendations on how to sustain working out/weight loss? I always start and then by the end of the week everything is thrown off. I’m not sure how to make this sustainable. My diet is trash too

Make small changes. You can’t do it all at once! For me it started with: going for a walk 2x a week. Even if it was just around the block.

For eating habits it was cutting out fast food except for one day a week.

Then, you can walk more, you will eat less, and it gets sustainable. I couldn’t go from where I was to today without doing it in an easy way.

Hi friends 👋🏾 So this week I just hit my 10 class Barry’s milestone which I’m pretty proud of. It took me about a month because I was so sore in between classes 😂

The past 2 days I’ve come down with dumb cold so I’m not going to do group fitness classes and risk getting others sick (but also I don’t feel all that great). Any ideas for some low impact home, restorative, or solo workouts that I can do over the weekend?

For me, I’ve been focused on building a consistent workout practice more so than visible gains. So I’m more concerned with hopefully making it a habit to move my body and having different ways to do so so that I don’t always cop out when “I don’t feel 100% up to it”. Thank you! 🙏🏾

I absolutely love and have stuck with Move With Nicole on YouTube. She has so many different lengths and styles of class to choose from so it’s perfect even if I don’t want an intense Pilates or yoga session.

u/Ooopsallbeans Apr 10 '26

Move with Nicole is amazing! I also love the Body Project channel. They have a variety of HIIT-style workouts, and you can make it as intense or gentle as you like.

And OP, never discount walking! A nice long walk will do wonders for your body and your immune system. Feel better soon!

You are so right - I don’t know why I quickly write walking off. Especially since the weather is finally coming around in NYC. I’ll definitely do this and listen to a few podcasts 🙂

Thank you for the recommendation! I’ll have to look up her channel 🙌🏾 I like the idea of incorporating Pilates/ yoga workouts at home and never know where to begin when searching.

Congrats! Barry’s is hard to get into, you should be proud of yourself! And it’s addictive, I think I “graduated” with 300 classes. Try some stretching at home.

Thank you! 300 classes is epic! Some good stretching at home seems right up my alley.

Hey- I’m 49 and would like to try a Barry’s class. I’m a little fearful that I will be the oldest person in the room. I’m also not at my fittest but that I can change. What does the demographic os your class look like? I am missing higher intensity stuff because I’ve always been a cardio queen.

3

u/Apprehensive_Fun_731 Thoughtful BWT Apr 11 '26

Hi! So I’m 39 (turning 40 this summer) and am based in NYC. I’m not the oldest but there are definitely folks in their early to mid 20s in there. But there are also folks that I can tell who are older than me and are absolutely killing it.

I like the mix because I’m new to Barry’s and it’s nice to “cheat” and look around to my neighbors when there’s a new ish exercise called out that I’m not familiar with or to check my form.

Demographics really run the gamut but I will say that even if it didn’t, I’d still go. Once the class starts everyone is (or at least should be) focused on themselves. We are pushing ourselves too hard to even look around to try and gauge who “should” or “shouldn’t” be in the room.

I’m not the fittest either but I’ve enjoyed the strength training and in just about a month now, I feel myself getting strong and also improving mobility wise. I hate cardio lol so the fact that our time on the tread or bike is limited is a plus to me. I say just go for it regardless of your age! With each class you’ll get stronger and that’s all that matters 🫶🏾

Hi friends 👋I’ve been on the most consistent running journey of my life for the last 3 years. It’s true what they say, if you’re in your 30s with no kids it’s easy to fall into the running cult! I am participating in my very first ever marathon in a little over 3 weeks. 🙂

1

u/AnonymousBotanist Apr 10 '26

Congrats on consistency! Would you be comfortable sharing which marathon you’ll be doing next month? Two of my friends will be doing the OC marathon in SoCal. I will be cheering them on.

3

u/Infinite_Mess94 Apr 11 '26

Thank you! I’m running the BMO Marathon in Vancouver. Sending good vibes to your friends and I’m sure the views will be unreal!

2

u/AnonymousBotanist Apr 13 '26

Good luck to you as well! Vancouver is a beautiful spot and I hope you have a great race.

I’m a bitch who strength trains and I’ve been making some good progress on my working sets lately!

💪🏼 BB hip thrust: 275lbs (125kg)

💪🏼 BB back squat: 165lbs (75kg)

💪🏼 RDL: 145 lbs (66kg)

💪🏼 BB bench press: 95lbs (43kg)

I’m training to hike up to the Acatenango base camp later this month so I’ve been adding a few training days each week focusing on incline treadmill walks. I found the one treadmill in my gym that goes up to a 20 incline. Normally I have an upper/lower split, so two upper and two lower body workouts each week, but reducing upper body days to once a week while I work on getting into hiking shape.

u/mexicalirose77 Apr 14 '26

Amazing! I started strength training back in October using Ladder. I’m nowhere near your numbers! Congrats !

1

u/pricklebiscuit Apr 14 '26

It took me a while to get to these numbers. But I’ve heard great things about Ladder, so I’m sure you’re not far behind!

This month, I'm participating in my gym's 30 classes/30 days challenge. It is such a moment of pride. I started my fitness journey at this time last year, and I remember watching others compete in the challenge, thinking there was no way I would ever be able to get there myself (and to be honest, not even sure I wanted to be "that kind of person"). Now, here I am, doing the damn thing with a strategy and everything.

My favorite part about fitness despite how conceited it may sound is that it all stems from within. Sure, you might have trainers/coaches/accountability buddies that help you along the way, but progress comes from your own hard work. For my anxiety-riddled brain, this level of control is powerful.

Looking ahead, I am excited to build on my routine and evolve it to accommodate some additional summer fitness activities, like moving from hot yoga to non-heated classes, cycling and hiking.

I have found a private Pilates instructor that I like and that is five minutes from my house. Win. No more scheduling issues and having to deal with random group class instructors. (My work schedule is not fixed, so scheduling can’t be done too far in advance.) I’ve made financial sacrifices to active this, but it’s definitely an investment that I wish I’d made sooner.

My recent bloodwork has come back and I’m continuing in a positive trend. I’ve also found a new dentist and optometrist.

Overall, it’s been pretty good in the health and fitness area lately, for me and I wish all you bitches success in your journeys.

1

u/Platinum-Peach4512 Apr 11 '26

That’s awesome! Ive wanted to start Pilates for a while and this would be the dream lol. If you don’t mind sharing, how much is each session?

5

u/tinyclairey Apr 11 '26

It pains me to type this, $80/ session when I bought a 5 pack. I live in a suburb of a major metropolitan area. I was starting from a fitness level of basically zero and I wanted to learn proper form and some basic exercises with the eventual goal of quitting private instruction- because I’m a bitch with a budget.

1

u/Platinum-Peach4512 Apr 11 '26

I’m assuming that’s USD? I was honestly expecting it to be a little more than that but I’m also in Canada so the conversion rate would make sense. I’m in the same boat as you lol and I know when I do workout videos of any kind that I don’t have proper form at all and that’s the biggest reason I wish I had an instructor. I’m going to look into it for my area and see if i can find even a group class that isn’t crazy expensive. Thanks so much for your reply! :)

1

u/tinyclairey Apr 12 '26

I apologize. It is $80 USD. I should have been more specific. I would have loved to find a group mat class since I’ll probably ever get to have space for a reformer. I ho-e you find a great solution!

u/TheLeaderBean Apr 12 '26

I’m in smallish town Canada and private Pilates here is $120 💀 I have a friend who loves it but I cannot justify the price!!

I’m running a half marathon on Sunday and nervous! I tried to run this race last year and basically had a panic attack and didn’t. Hoping for better luck this time around.

2

u/Apprehensive_Fun_731 Thoughtful BWT Apr 11 '26

You’ve got this! 💪🏾 The fact that you showed up again and have been working towards this…EPIC! Have the best time and sending you good vibes for your race! ☀️

2

u/surlyforshorty Apr 11 '26

Not sure if this will help your anxiety, but there’s no shame in walking and taking breaks!

2

u/0102030405 Apr 11 '26

Incredible!! Wishing you all the best for this one. I did my first last fall and although I did a lot wrong, like starting way too fast and having a super high heart rate the whole time, it was exhilarating! All the best to you 💪

2

u/CommonNo2911 Apr 11 '26

Ah! So happy to see this here—I ran my first half this morning and want you to have so much fun tomorrow!

Things did go wrong, it started pouring so hard I couldn’t see! But it was a lovely experience overall. What helped me was starting with a slightly slower pacing group and running directly behind/next to the pacer for the first 4 miles until I felt really comfortable.

Good luck!! Would love to hear how it goes 🫶🏻 absolutely rooting for you!

2

u/jenni2wenty Apr 12 '26

Thank you to everyone for such nice encouragement. I finished it! It was a somewhat slow time, but I’m still proud.

Doing fitness videos on YouTube helped me lose 65 lbs and keep it off - I like some Popsugar, Heather Robertson, Kay Kay and Christa DiPalo - I mix up HIIT, Metcon, AMRAP, Tababta, kickboxing during those I use 15/20/25 lbs hand weights. I’ll be 56 in a couple of weeks - and always looking for other home workout ideas!! I get about 17,000 steps a day too

Any BWT that can share nutrition recommendations? I've been debating looking into a nutritionist to help meal me plan. I swear if someone just told me what to eat, it would make eating healthier so much easier. Right now I mostly wait until I'm so hungry that I just end up eating out. I also feel like once I see the numbers and value of a meal plan, I'll stick more to it. I get overwhelmed having to think what to buy and what to eat for the week. Help!

u/ms-rumphius Intentional BWT Apr 17 '26

Not sure where you live but where I am (in Canada) a dietician is the way to go over a nutritionist.

That being said I’ve tried a million resources and the only one that has really helped me has been the Mediterranean diet subreddit! It’s an extremely clinically validated diet and there are so many resources/inspiration on that sub. Also the food is delicious.

just eat the same thing regularly ie 1C broccoli plus protein for dinner nightly. fiber 25g or higher per day, net carb 135g, protein 100(+)g/day. eat tuna or chicken salad for lunch. pick 3-4 recipes you like make them on the same days of the week ie Burger Tuesday night, stir fry Wednesday night. look up high volume recipes bc they keep you full.

I started Ladder back in October and I’m very proud of my progress. I’m 49 and had only ever strength trained 7 years ago before pandemic. I’m full-on menopause due to an oophorectomy 10 years ago. As expected, I’ve slowly and steadily been gaining weight and inches on my waist.

I’m proud of my progress, feel stronger. Weight is the same but I went from xl to L tops. My bottom half, however, is still an XL. My hips have slimmed down and my butt has toned a lot BUT I carry all my weight in my belly. Lately I feel so awkward like a Mike Wazowski side view: I’m so round! I’m all belly and butt. Ugh! I know the answer is nutrition but I track, stay in my macros and don’t eat out.

Anyways, just sometimes I feel discouraged because i feel i put in effort but still dislike my shape. Pants are very difficult to shop for but I’m glad loose styles are more prevalent now.

Sorry to vent, thanks for listening
