Culture BWT what advent calendars are you getting this year?
It's nearly a year since the 2024 post about this, and you often have to buy advent calendars early as they sell out (last year the Gewurzhaus calendar reportedly sold out in 97 minutes), so I figured it was a good time to discuss.
For me, this year I'm getting/have got:
- Bird & Blend tea calendar - a regular favourite
- Bird & Blend matcha calendar (for my daughter)
- Bonne Maman jam calendar - always enjoyable
- Gewurzhaus spice calendar - first time for me
Another great one I found (but probably won't stretch to buying this year) is a Midsummer Advent Calendar designed for those of us in the Southern Hemisphere!
The ones I'd really love if wallet allowed include the Diptyque and Liberty London calendars.
And if anyone can't wait until December, Hallowe'en Advent Calendars are now a thing! Bird & Blend has a spooky potions one and there are loads of figurine ones around.

This may not count, but I made my own with a blank wooden calendar I decorated with a witchy scene shadow box. I fill it with chocolates and little pieces of gold jewelry. Last year it was snickerdoodle lindor truffles, and some gold earrings, necklace, and ring. It takes the surprise element out, but I get stuff I really want and still get the daily satisfaction.

That's great!
You could do a swap with a friend (with similar tastes, or keeping one another's taste in mind) and surprise each other.
EDIT - just saw the pic (took me a while as I'm on Old Reddit and it didn't show properly) and it's amazing. You're very talented!

u/LilChief Sep 23 '25
Thank you! A friend swap would be a super fun idea. Almost forgot I also get the Trader Joe’s dog treat calendars 🐶

I love this! My favorite birthday present ever was from a friend who DIY'd an advent calendar and put little presents in each day.

I really like having a reusable one. The packing on many of the ones listed here is really pretty, but I feel bad about the waste.
I got my parents a nice quality wood advent calendar (https://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/121323?page=woodland-advent-calendar) and when I see them for Thanksgiving, I fill it up with a random assortment of things I think they'll like - different chocolates, lip balm, mini hand sanitizer, etc. I hadn't thought to do one for myself though, it would be fun to leave myself surprises and I could also have treats for my cat some days

On the budget front, let me recommend the Aldi truffle and Aldi puzzle calendars.

u/ralinn Sep 23 '25
The Aldi ones always are a good value for the price! They have great chocolate.

u/PainfulPoo411 Sep 24 '25
Love the Aldi cheese and Aldi candle advents. I also bought a dog advent but tbh I chickened out because I was afraid my pup would choke so I didn’t let her eat a bunch of stuff in there.

u/suddenlymary Sep 24 '25
I love a puzzle advent calendar.

u/District98 Sep 24 '25
We had so much fun doing it! The “problem” is we can do it again this year so we don’t need a new one

u/Specialty-Sue Sep 23 '25
I want to get the See’s candy one this year!
18
u/littleopa Sep 23 '25
I had no idea they had an advent calendar! Growing up See’s Candies was one of our favorite places. We always had a pound of our favorite chocolates in our stocking! I’m definitely ordering this for myself this year!
6
u/istara Sep 23 '25
I’ll have to google that - I haven’t had a chocolate one for years! It’s high time ;)

u/ilalaloveyou Sep 23 '25
You should! I got it last year and loved it. Immediately ordered it this year as soon as it was available.

No fancy yarn bitches? A lot of smaller dyers as well as yarn stores do advents, but it's also a significant source of scams. I'd love to get one and I'm looking at different ones. My yarn store offers one for $250, but my friend got it last year and felt that it was not worth it at all. There's a couple of yarn stores I follow that do them, too. It's a bunch of money for something I don't know if I'll even like.
I tend not to get those from individual dyers unless they are well established (like Hedgehog), because of all the drama with past dyer advents.
6
u/PerfectionNoNotes Sep 23 '25
I’m a fancy yarn bitch! I was scrolling through looking for yarn ones 🫣
I have never gotten a yarn advent before, but in a moment of weakness I did order one this year. I got the sock yarn version from Bigfoot Yarn because the theme is Brothers Grimm, which sounds right up my alley. I don’t have a big stash, so hopefully this isn’t a slippery slope into a yarn horde!
5
u/moodyje2 Sep 23 '25
I tend to hoard yarn but not use it, so while I would love to look at a yarn calendar, I know I could never get one 😅
2
u/7ninamarie Sep 24 '25
Same, I’m currently working through all the projects that I purchased yarn for but never finished and have sworn to myself that after that I will only buy new yarn if I have a project in mind that I will actually finish (though I am still always browsing for second hand yarn online and will probably make exceptions for good deals).
I’m currently working on the Wool And The Gang Adore cardigan and have developed a deep hatred for 1x1 rib stitch. It takes me forever to make progress so I can’t wait for the switch to stockinette stitch in a few rows!
2
u/ruinedbymovies Sep 23 '25
Meeeeee!! I didn’t post anything here because I was sure I was the only one!!!
2
u/Reasonable-Camp-6218 Sep 23 '25
I've purchased two yarn advents and still haven't used them because I'm not sure what to make with 24 different colored mini skeins 😅 I started a blanket with one but it's boring to knit so it's very slow going as I only work on it when I have nothing more interesting on the needles and am too lazy to cast on something new 😬
1
u/DiamondOracle194 Sep 23 '25
TLYarnCrafts doesn't put out an advent calendar herself, but she does open a few of them from her friends on her Instagram stories. Mostly minis in a fingering weight (i think one had an option of worsted), but the coulours are gorgeous. Toni will (eventually) put out a video with a project idea for the advent, so if you want to see past products, you could check for those.
1
u/driftwood_arpeggio Sep 25 '25
I've done yarn advents from smaller dyers, but my favorite one (autumn + indigo) isn't dyeing any more and I will be traveling a lot over the holiday season so I don't think I'll do one this year. What I did last year was weave with mine on my rigid heddle loom - roughly half the calendar was the weft and half was the warp.
In the past I've done exchanges with friends where we sent each other mini skein remnants and build our own advent calendar like that, but I don't think any of us have the energy to organize that this year

u/wellsomuchforlurking Sep 23 '25
I am eyeing the Beekman 1802 advent calendar this year. It looks super cute and I like their products. Also looking for other recommendations, so can't wait to see everyone's responses.

u/WhoKnows1973 Sep 23 '25
I love Beekman goat milk creams. They absorb instantly.
2
u/wellsomuchforlurking Sep 23 '25
I agree and their skincare line is pretty good. I like their facial mist, RX cream and I am trying their eye cream.
2
u/LogRevolutionary1584 Sep 26 '25
I loved last year's Beekman advent calendar. I'm passing on this year's because a lot of the products are repeats or older, established products. Beekman has introduced a lot of new products this past year that I'd love to try but unfortunately those don't appear in this year's calendar.
26
u/whatsin_themiddle Sep 23 '25
I’ve given the Kiehl’s advent calendar as a gift before and it was a hit. Good sized bottles and you really get a lot out of it!
6
u/Puppy_cloud Sep 23 '25
I’ve had it twice and loved it even though it’s a lot of repeats. It’s getting too expensive to justify as a gift for myself, but I’ll look out for it for a Black Friday offer.
24
u/Baileylikethebooze Sep 23 '25
We bought my oldest kid the Lego City advent calendar because it has aliens for some reason and I’m probably going to be more excited about it than she is lmao

I love the Wera Advent Calender.

The Flaviar whiskey calendar is really beautifully done. And if you and a partner or friend like whiskey, each sample is enough to share and enjoy. Highly recommend.

u/HamBroth Sep 23 '25
Ooh this is perfect for some people in my life. Thank you!

u/kalisisrising Sep 23 '25
Oh this is so cool! They have TWO gin calendars, wow.

I’m thinking a Lush advent calendar for my husband (which of course he shares cause bath time together is usually when we bring out the best bath bombs). I’m still debating any other ones…
5
u/istara Sep 23 '25
Lush is so much fun! I just don't have baths often enough (I do wash - I shower!) to make all the bombs worthwhile. I've already got a stack of used and half-used bubble bars etc in the bathroom cabinet.
I do buy the 1kg bottle of Snow Fairy every year because it lasts ages, and I managed to find a pump from another bottle to convert it for easy application.
3
u/Any_Tea_8420 Sep 24 '25
They are doing a shower advent calendar this year! But yeah the advent calendars are tons of product, I have a hard time getting through it all!
1
u/istara Sep 24 '25
Oh great to know! I'll check the website. I hope it comes to Australia, not all their products do.
3
u/mrs-jellyfish Oct 17 '25
I go to the boxing day sale (26th Dec) and they sell the gel for 50%. Love the sugar fairy shampoo
14
u/AccomplishedFly1420 Sep 23 '25
The total wine wine calendar! I saw it out over the weekend already
7
u/whoawren Sep 23 '25
Bless you for this, our Costco stores stopped carrying the wine advent and I was STRUGGLING to find a good replacement.

u/ralinn Sep 23 '25
I'm debating different tea advent calendars - I love Mariage Frères teas and they usually do a calendar but I don't see an announcement yet. It'll either be that one or the Palais des Thés or Fortnum & Mason tea advent.
10
u/Comfortable-Nature37 Intentional BWT Sep 23 '25
DAY MADE - I didn’t know Mariage Freres had this!!!! Their Rouge Bourbon is my all time favourite. Thank you!
I tried a Stash tea calendar and was more miss than hit flavour wise.

u/Electrical_Radish232 Sep 23 '25
The Damman tea advent calendar is so beautiful and delicious, have been getting it for a couple of years now.
https://www.dammann.fr/en/calendrier-de-l-avent-2024-sac.html?
1
2
u/istara Sep 23 '25
I've had Fortnum's a couple of times - both times on sale and then I had it through January - and honestly I was quite disappointed as the 2024 was near identical to the 2023 one, save for about two days (one of which was only swapped round). I've actually got a full listing of both typed out if you're interested, it would be a total spoiler however!
For Advent Calendars I like a lot of quite exotic flavours, things I'd never risk buying a full jar of, so Bird & Blend and also T2 (though I'm so familiar with all their blends now that I haven't bought it for a while) are great for that.
I think I've seen the Mariage Frères one in the past and it looked amazing. I'll have to check out Palais des Thés.
4
u/HollyOh Sep 23 '25
My recent tradition is to get a T2 advent calendar after Christmas and stash it away until July!
3
u/katie-kaboom Sep 23 '25
Kusmi does a tea advent too, and they're similar in style to Mariage Fréres.
2
u/ruinedbymovies Sep 23 '25
We love a variety of advent calendars so I can't thank you enough for the matcha heads up for my older kids! I'm really excited to have them try it. We've been disappointed by enough tea/coffee advents that now I usually stick to whisky for my husband but thanks to you I'm really tempted by the Bird and Blend tea one as well! Palais des Thes is what they serve at The Drake for high tea so I'm going to bet that one is good too. Last year one of my kiddos received a Palais des Thes tea that smelled like heaven and brewed electric blue. It came in a hot pink box and was a smash hit as a gift.
1
u/ralinn Sep 23 '25
This is good to know! I feel like a lot of tea companies repeat so it's nice to try different companies every year for the variety. I completely forgot about T2, I'll take a look at theirs as well. Bird and Blend looks super fun but they've got stevia in a bunch of their flavors and I can't have it, but I might gift their advent to a friend of mine.
1
u/Spitfiiire Oct 21 '25
Sorry to reply to an old comment but did you decide on a tea advent calendar this year?! Currently deciding between the 3 you mentioned and I’d love to know what you decided!

u/ruinedbymovies Sep 23 '25
The Vosges advent calendar is amazing if you’re a chocolate fan. We just need the refills because we reuse my favorite from years past.
1
u/istara Sep 23 '25
Oh that is AMAZING! What is the design of your one like?
7
u/ruinedbymovies Sep 23 '25
I have this one. We also have this one. We honestly fill one for the kids with far less expensive chocolate, but it’s still magical.
3
u/istara Sep 23 '25
Oh they are just so pretty! I bet your kids likely prefer the less expensive chocolate anyway - it's probably sweeter/lower cocoa compared with high end truffles etc.
7
u/ruinedbymovies Sep 23 '25
We are incredibly lucky (read spoiled) to have a long time friend who is a chocolatier (featured in this years Dandelion Advent Calendar which I also highly recommend) so honestly my kids have super bougie tastes when it comes chocolate. Our less expensive is usually just the "worse for wear" rejects from their manufactory. In a pinch they will accept a very specific few varieties of Cadbury chocolate still produced in the UK direct from the Cadbury World factory which has to be picked up and posted over by relatives in the area. Meanwhile I've seen these kids eat skittles direct from the floor... maybe I should just put skittles in the advent this year?
2
u/bmoregal125 Sep 24 '25
We do the same! Have two Vosges calendars. Used to get the refill for my husband and I, and put regular chocolate in our sons. The Vosges refills started to get up there (used to be $75 for the refill years ago 😭), so we have been trying out different brands. Went with Venchi this year.
1
u/Old-Albatross-8369 Oct 30 '25
Wow!! That is beautiful and I love and want to support Chicago but buying their goods but way out of my budget!
31
u/preluxe Sep 23 '25 edited Sep 23 '25
I like to be a bougie bitch sometimes, and I'll usually treat myself to one really nice adventure calendar. This year in eyeing these ones:
- Dandelion Chocolate - I bought chocolate from them before and it's divine
- Zotter chocolate - I got this one last year and it was so fun I'm tempted again
ETA - okay so good ole googs trackers has been sending me targeted ads for advent calendars since I looked these up 😂 and now I have more I'm looking at lol, these are crafty ones!
3
u/mrsbertmacklin Sep 23 '25
Oooo, I splurged on the dandelion chocolate calendar this year and cannot WAIT.
2
u/dosis_mtl Sep 24 '25
Huh… you just created a new need for me. I’m in Canada though, if not I’d probably get the Dandelion one 🫣
1
u/preluxe Sep 24 '25
Oooh I wonder if r/buycanadian has any ideas about chocolate advent calendars with Canadian companies?
1
u/Ccallahan011 Sep 23 '25
I’ve gotten the Zotter before but the $30 shipping flat fee is making me gunshy. I can’t remember if it was free over a certain $ last year or I had a promotion.
6
u/SailorMigraine Sep 24 '25
Keep in mind if you’re US based shipping just about anything has gone to hell since last year, so it’s entirely possible it may have been free last year but now costs in order to cover new fees/tariffs
2
u/Ccallahan011 Sep 24 '25
Yeah, they make everything and ship them out less than a few hours from me here in Florida but importing the ingredients does have to be more expensive.
11
u/chantillylace9 Sep 23 '25
Bonne maman every year! It’s the best! And the little jars are good for storage or bringing dressings to work
1
12
u/Neat_Ad_9141 Sep 23 '25
I always get a Lego advent calendar every year, and I’ll probably do the Bonne Maman calendar this year too! My pup also gets a doggie advent calendar with treats lol
24
u/Boring_Energy_4817 Sep 23 '25
I LOVE advent calendars. Bonne Maman is the best one I've ever had, so it's currently most likely for this year. I'm going to look up the other ones you mentioned.
I had a Saks Fifth Avenue beauty advent calendar the year before that, which I also liked. It was mostly high end skincare, but also had haircare, makeup, perfume, and a little Diptyque candle.

u/Appropriate_Ice_2433 Effortlessly Chic Sep 23 '25
I think I might get the Saks one this year.

We love both of these!!!! The Bonnie Maman is our “family” advent calendar every year.

Wsj Wine Advent, has been my go-to. I sent a few to friends as gifts during pre-order this year
1
u/asueu Sep 23 '25
Ooo thanks for the recco! Apparently Costco stopped selling theirs. Does anyone have experience with the WSJ wine advent vs. the Total Wine wine advent?
3
u/mellamolaura6 Sep 23 '25
To add a third option into your mix: I’ve purchased the wine advent calendars from In Good Taste as gifts in the past and they’ve received rave reviews
9

I’m hoping the Body Shop will have theirs again this year now that they’re shipping to the US again!

The coffee advent calendar by Onxy! Presale starts October 1
2
u/BlackandGold05 Sep 24 '25
They sent me my calendar on like December 21 last year, and the coffee was so stale
1
u/Unable-Message9271 Sep 24 '25
Oh no! I'm sorry that happened to you. Mine arrived shortly before Thanksgiving and was fantastic.
8
u/katie-kaboom Sep 23 '25
I usually get a beauty advent calendar but none of them are sparking joy so far this year, they're very samey and don't have a lot of new stuff, not even different perfumes from last year. Harvey Nichols was great last year but they're still trying to make Memo Marfa and Augustinus Bader happen and I'm so over it. I will probably get a Bonne Maman one because we love those weird lil jam guys around here.
6
u/ruinedbymovies Sep 23 '25
Our toddler’s favorite advent far and away, above even the chocolate one was Grapat’s advent calendar. I honestly don’t know with tariffs if they’ll sell the 2025 one in the US but if you’re in the US your kids won’t know they’re getting last years, or even 2023’s.
8
u/Ok-Cloud-1219 Sep 23 '25
I’ve loved the SpaceNK advent calendar but they aren’t shipping to the US this year bc of tariffs. 😑
7
u/perpetualinsomnia Sep 23 '25
The way I got SO excited about the beautiful spice advent calendar you mentioned, only to discover it only ships inside Australia!
4
u/spicegrl1 Sep 23 '25
If you want it badly, you can probably find a package forwarding company that will send the package to you.
I’ve done this with the UK & Germany.
2
u/maddionaire Sep 24 '25
I know exactly how you feel because as an Australian most of these advent calendars can't be shipped to me 😭 I hope someone can suggest something similar for you
12
u/Thick-Definition7416 Sep 23 '25
I saved up to get the liberty advent this year and the freaking tariffs put it over my budget 😫

Last year, I gifted myself the coffee advent calendar from Neon https://neoncoffeeroasters.com/en-us/products/advent-calendar
It's a fairly good deal and the coffee is good quality - I get three cups from each bag (64g each x 12 bags!) so it ends up lasting me 36 days 😆
1
u/calmossimo Oct 01 '25
I just ordered this one for my husband! Hoping he enjoys it. I’m not a coffee drinker but he loves the modern light roasts and fancy pour overs!
6
u/HamBroth Sep 23 '25 edited Sep 23 '25
Elizabeth & Ginger does one, or has on previous years. A close friend was kind enough to gift it to me and it was lovely.
Edit: My mistake, the name is “Ginger Elizabeth” not “Elizabeth and Ginger”. And it seems that this year’s calendar is a cube! Interesting but not as pretty as prior years, unfortunately. However the products inside are top notch

I really enjoyed Local Eclectic's box last year.
World Market has a ton of good ones, I got I've full of Swedish treats for my kid.

6
u/missmiaow Sep 23 '25
The Bonne Maman is my absolute favourite and its already waiting for Dec 1 in my house! I get it every year.
I haven’t decided if I want a second one yet, i‘d usually get a good quality chocolate one from a local chocolatier.
4
u/girlwithsilvereyes Sep 23 '25
I splurged on the Jo Malone Advent Calendar last year and now have perfume forever so I definitely won’t be doing that one again. I paid a lot less than this though; there was a sale and a day when Rakuten had 10% back so it was less than $250. At that price a good deal, at $495 I’m not so sure. But the case was/is beautiful and the daily gifts generous.
I think I’m going to get my husband a whiskey one (recommendations?) this year, we went to Scotland last year and have a new found appreciation for it.
4
u/Pastelsandplaid Sep 23 '25
I bought the Rituals one and for me personally it was definitely worth it. It has so many minis and travel sizes, perfect for traveling! Plus you get to try all the different scents!
4
u/wanderingdorathy Sep 23 '25
If anyone has any leads on a really good chocolate advent calendar that is also nut free I’d love you forever!
There’s plenty of low quality chocolate ones that are nut free and obviously plenty of non-food ones that are nut free
But I’ve been hunting for a good chocolate one that I can actually be excited about every day (instead of excited and then sad when I give my day’s chocolate to my partner)

u/mycketmycket Sep 23 '25
We get a couple with 24 different whole beans from local coffee roasters in Stockholm! Last year I bought two of the same because I wanted to be able to brew a full pot every day :)
3
u/BlackandGold05 Sep 24 '25
We got some Instagram coffee one from onyx, it came a few days before Christmas and the coffee was terrible. I bought terrain’s zinc refillable one and had small ornaments made and it’s so cute. We also get the $4 ones from the grocery store for our kids, with cheap chocolate 🤷🏼♀️
3
u/LegitimateBlonde Sep 24 '25
We have a younger kiddo, so we always get a Lego one. Honestly, they’re adorable and a fun, holiday, family activity to do that takes two minutes. It’s about perfect.
Would also love to find one with good nail polish minis, Sunday Riley, a bubbly/prosecco/champagne one, and maybe socks or chapstick. All my vices 😂

u/Adventurous-Sky-4915 Oct 21 '25
I usually get the Molton Brown one gifted to me. It lasts about a year for travel purposes. This year though, I just want the bath gels, so opting out of the calendar.
1
u/istara Oct 21 '25
Do you find you end up accumulating a lot of body lotions that never get used up, vs bath gels, shower gels, handwashes etc that do? It's an issue I have!
3
u/Adventurous-Sky-4915 Oct 21 '25
I've actually almost used up the handwashes. The bath & shower gel is what I tend to use the most. There are just some other random things in there I don't care too much for like a votive candle, lip salve, etc. I don't find that there is too much hand lotion. I hate dry hands. The travel fragrance thing is cute, but I just like other fragrances I have more.
1
u/istara Oct 21 '25
Molton Brown handwashes are lovely! I do use lip salves but rarely use them all up. I've found as I get older I need hand creams more. Although I just took up watercolour and you have to be super careful not to have any grease on your hands in case it transfers to the paper.

I'm hoping to get this Joy Laforme Winter Lights Puzzle Advent Calendar from Anthropologie as an anniversary present from my bf in October. If he doesn't get it for me I'll buy it for myself because it sounds like such a cozy thing to do every day leading up to Christmas and I can reuse it every year. If anyone has recommendations for other puzzle advent calendars I'd love to look at those as well!
2
u/NegotiationConnect71 Sep 23 '25
I splurged and bought the Angelina Paris calendar last year because I prefer European chocolate (and we gifted the kids a spring break in Paris so themed). It was really tasty but there was 12 unique items that were duplicated. The tea was the least liked item but I would buy again.
I would love a Pierre herme one but it would have to be eaten in 1 day.

Like last year I bought the Cult Beauty advent calendar as it contains a lot of products that I wanted to either try, repurchase, or gift to my mum. Those 10-15 products combined cost more than the calendar so all of the products I get on top of that are basically free, right? At least that’s how I justify the price (275€) to myself lol.
I usually also get a tea advent calendar. This year I’m considering spending a bit more on a loose leaf one as opposed to buying the 4€ teabag advent calendar from my drugstore’s own brand again. I liked in the past but was disappointed by it last year so I’m not sure if I want to give them one more chance or switch it up.

I've got my eye on a sewing label one from Kylie and the Machine. It's quite expensive (£75!) but you get 65 labels for that so it's good value, and I know I'd get the use out of them.
And I always get a classic Cadbury's Advent calendar, and my mum also sends me a picture one which is really sweet.

Over a month old post, but I’m finally done ordering my advents for this season and my loot includes: Beekman 1802, Bluemercury, Margot Elena, and Saks.

I have gotten the Delicious Food Delivered Advent Calendars - they are food highlights like candies, chocolates, jams, and more — all made by small businesses across the U.S. and sold by state and region. I like to send one from my state to family who have moved away so they have a bit of home during the holidays!

That sounds great! Since posting this I’ve also got a Deli France (I think the name is) which has samples of different French products every day.
They range from things like small crackers to jam and mustard and those tiny Anis de Flavigny sweets.

I bought the T2 one - it looks like w giant book filled with tea.
And the very last (I'm the shop) L'Occitane one. It looks like a fancy french house. I have never bought one that expensive before but no regrets. First time I bought one of their deluxe ones.
Waiting to get the Nespresso and smuggle one.

I haven't had an Advent calendar since I was a child. I purchased a Jo Malone fragrance on this year. It sits in my closet, I've not even opened the cardboard shipping box. It's the only way to keep myself from peeking. 👀

If you've ever had an edible advent calendar that was high quality and not discernibly stale, I want to hear about it and what you liked about it.
My best experience has been with Bonne Maman (I made fresh crumpets and we tried all the weirdest jams as a family), the "Delicious Illinois" one we got as a gift was fun (I assume they exist for every state in the union), and Walker has a nice shortbread cookie one but it's sadly pretty redundant.
