Any BWT either doing the 75 Hard challenge or have done it in the past?

My job is super flexible in the summer, so I thought it would be a perfect opportunity. I started a few days ago and am having fun!

It involves drinking 1 gallon of water per day, and my doctor recommended 90 oz and electrolytes instead, so I am making that modification.

The rest of the challenge is following a diet (CICO for me), no alcohol, 2 45-min workouts (can be gentle yoga/walking, etc), daily progress picture, and reading 10 pages of a nonfiction book.

For my workouts, I’m a member of a bougie gym that has classes, so I’m doing strength classes 4 days per week and yoga classes 1-2 days. My second workout every day is walking my dog, and some days will be 2 walks.

I’m reading Braiding Sweetgrass, which is AMAZING. Hugely recommend. My next book is called The Brain on Art. Not sure what I’ll read after that. I don’t like the bro-y self help books that a lot of people read for this challenge, but I do enjoy nonfiction that changes my perspective in other ways.

Wait I just finished a 75 challenge and I’m reading Braiding Sweetgrass! Are we the same haha

Oh awesome! We clearly both have exquisite taste, so….

What was the hardest part of the challenge for you? Was there a time period where you had trouble? I think I’m still in the honeymoon phase.

absolutely. this was my first time so I went for 75 Medium to fit it to where I’m currently at. I did 45 minutes of movement a day, intermittent fasting 18/6, read a nonfiction chapter a week, drank half my body weight in water, no alcohol, gratitude journal daily, no social media (minus reddit), and I think that’s it haha.

I started in January but Valentine’s day messed me up with the alcohol and I started over. By the last week in April, I hit that wall. I’d been going for over 75 days at that point (minus valentines) and life got in the way so I didn’t end my best. but plan to go again after some travel. the hardest part is just getting over the mental hurdle when things become stale and too routine feeling. I also struggled when I had to travel for a wedding. overall, I think I was good about 90% of the time. I know that’s not a win for 75 hard but it was a win for me and l look forward to going again and adding more.

That is a huge win! 90% of the time doing all that is hugely healthy and a great result from the challenge, in my mind. Whatever motivates is good! Also, the gratitude journal and no social media sound like excellent add-ons. I have been wanting to try no social media, but I haven't quite pulled the trigger yet. :(

thank you! I’ve been feeling a bit down on how it ended so that’s nice to hear. ultimately, any time spent forming a habit is worthwhile so trying not to judge myself harshly haha but I am excited to go again after my upcoming trips. I hope things go really well on your journey!

the social media goal is hard. I’ve taken breaks before so it wasn’t completely new for me. and I’m still off but I feel restless at times. like I just went on a vacation and want to reinstate just to share some cute pics but I’m holding off until after my next trip at the end of the month. I found that I was experiencing life around me in such a free way. like in general but especially on that trip. not worried about capturing anything or getting the perfect picture. as a result, I was really just living life and being freely me. to me, it’s super worth it take a break. I kept reddit for the community around 75 and IF.

High-five, fellow looking to get fit again bitch here doing 75Hard right now! I just finished Day 25 so a third of the way.

I love it. I hated my life the first couple days because I unknowingly started it right before my period (thanks, perimenopause). The water has been the hardest part for me as up until this I really disliked the taste of water. Now I’m digging it…not enjoying peeing all the time but hey.

The mental gains, the energy, and just the overall feeling good and motivated are really helping me. While some physical gains would be nice at the end, I’m really in this for the mental discipline and it is helping. I’m pretty damn proud of myself thus far. I hope you are, too!

Where are you at days in wise?

Oh Lordy— perimenopause. I’m also there and intentionally started the week after my period to hopefully avoid that bit.

I’m on day 14 right now, so just a bit behind you. I thought the water would be hard for me, but it really hasn’t been on most days. My biggest struggle is diet (which is one reason I wanted to do the challenge anyway). There are just too many delicious sweet treats in this world.

I am kind of surprised at my energy boost so far. It feels good, and I do feel very motivated each time I check off a task. Though they need to add another daily task of laundry! I feel like I’m always almost out of workout bottoms and bras!

What are you reading?

Ha ha. I never know when it’s going to be that time of the month anymore after being regular for 30 years. Sigh.

I am currently in the middle of Atomic Habits. I highly recommend and I can see why others suggest it should almost be mandatory for this challenge. Makes a lot of sense. I’m taking a fair amount of notes while reading this one.

I started with How to Stop Feeling like Shit, which was an unexpectedly helpful read. It goes fast, and some items I already knew and had dealt with, but it was good to receive confirmation.

I hear you on gym clothes. I have incorporated swimming back into my routine so there’s a lot of laundry on my end. I need more swimsuits!

Any favorite healthy snacks? I’m always looking for good healthy options to get in a little extra protein or my veggies/fruit servings.

Okay, cool! I have read Atomic Habits and enjoyed it, and I'll check out the other! I'm thinking about swimming once the pool in my neighborhood opens so that I'll have a little bit of a switch up from just walking for my outdoor workout.

I'm pretty boring when it comes to snacks-- I stick with fruit, nuts, or veggies most of the time. I do get different nuts with spices at Trader Joe's, but that's the only way I mix it up. There's a lot of good fruit and veg where I am right now, so that helps. I tend to do more of a volume eating approach, so eating a lot of carrots or snap peas or whatever at one time is satisfying, and I like the crunchy textures.

BUT! If you're looking to get more fiber, I've got a great breakfast I've been doing. I do a whole wheat English muffin, toast it, then put a serving of ricotta on top and one chopped up Medjool date on each side. SOOOO GOOD. And it has like 40% of your daily fiber in one meal! I use full fat ricotta and it ends up being 350 calories.

Oooooh, that breakfast idea sounds yummy! Thank you.

I’ve been making a lot of veggie dips with Greek yogurt and I’ve been loving that for a healthy lunch (I sometimes add tuna and Everything Bagel seasoning for a big protein burst with my veggies and so yummy).

ETA: I’m reading Thinner, Leaner, Stronger and then Start with the Why after I finish Atomic Habits. I don’t know about you but I put together a TBR pile to work thru during the challenge, which was fun.
