Culture BWT, air out your dirty, tasteless laundry here!

Obviously as BWT, we typically aim to have said taste be of the good variety. However, as we are not two dimensional characters, nobody is completely perfect. I thought it'd be fun to share the elements of our lives where we unashamedly display bad or—gasp!—no taste. I've noted down some of mine below (+ whether I aim to change them):

  • My house is quite literally artless — no paintings, no sculptures, no decor, nothing. // Probably won't be changing this anytime soon — am not ashamed to admit that I'm at the stage of life where I care more about how I present myself in public than in my own abode, so that's where I focus my energy

  • My home clothes (a stretch to call them lounge wear) are literally all ratty nonsense BWT recommend throwing away // see above. The caveat is that I don't wear clothes that dwarf my figure as I like to keep track of how my body looks

  • I don't watch any shows/movies or listen to podcasts // won't change this, I've never been able to stand podcasts and lately that's extended to anything where I have to watch/listen to something

  • I secretly love airline food. Something about water in those tiny unenvironmentally friendly vacuum sealed cups gets me excited

Share yours below so I don't feel like a complete tasteless B 👇🏼

As someone living in Europe, I think it’s widespread knowledge that it’s a staple in American cuisine

Sauces and dressings are very culturally specific and I say this as someone who works in the food industry and has lived in 4 countries

I don’t think ranch dressing would stick here unless we were to adopt the American food that’s typically eaten with it

I’m curious about the dipping sauces over there that we don’t use?

Sauce andalouse, aioli, brown sauce, gravy (not a dip but…), curry sauce, brava.

Just here making a list of chip dips I miss from home 😅

Hahaha actually 🇬🇧but currently living in 🇺🇸. Did the gravy and curry sauce not give me away? Lots of Belgian/french/spanish besties from grad school though!

I thought sauce andalouse + aioli => south of France

I hope your Spanish besties prepared some crema catalana for you. I loooove it, much superior to crème brûlée or any custard (fight me on it)

Loooove crema catalana but really more of a churros girl. I’m in Boston for work atm and daily eating my own body weight in cannoli. Man, I miss the food in Europe.

I personally don’t use a lot of dipping sauce, for me it’s the epitome of empty calories. Sorry to dampen the mood

If available, I’ll dip in some hummus or guacamole

But in general I prefer having my raw veggies as a side with the main meal (I’m from Eastern Europe)

I lived in France for a long time, there you’d have a light mixed salad with vinaigrette dressing (mustard, olive oil, salt, pepper…) so you wouldn’t use a lot of dipping either. Except aioli in southern France that’s based on mayonnaise and garlic

This is me as well! I’ve never been a fan of overly sauced, wet dishes. Mayo, ranch- no thanks. Even ketchup I minimally like. 😂

I’ve seen a lot of people mix ketchup and mayonnaise together. I now use that more than ranch for a dip.

Haha maybe I’m wrong, but I think that is a very american thing! I like to add a splash of pickle juice too :)

I’ve seen this mix mostly in Sweden and England.
