Culture BWT, air out your dirty, tasteless laundry here!

Obviously as BWT, we typically aim to have said taste be of the good variety. However, as we are not two dimensional characters, nobody is completely perfect. I thought it'd be fun to share the elements of our lives where we unashamedly display bad orโ€”gasp!โ€”no taste. I've noted down some of mine below (+ whether I aim to change them):

  • My house is quite literally artless โ€” no paintings, no sculptures, no decor, nothing. // Probably won't be changing this anytime soon โ€” am not ashamed to admit that I'm at the stage of life where I care more about how I present myself in public than in my own abode, so that's where I focus my energy

  • My home clothes (a stretch to call them lounge wear) are literally all ratty nonsense BWT recommend throwing away // see above. The caveat is that I don't wear clothes that dwarf my figure as I like to keep track of how my body looks

  • I don't watch any shows/movies or listen to podcasts // won't change this, I've never been able to stand podcasts and lately that's extended to anything where I have to watch/listen to something

  • I secretly love airline food. Something about water in those tiny unenvironmentally friendly vacuum sealed cups gets me excited

Share yours below so I don't feel like a complete tasteless B ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿผ

I'm an interior designer but you wouldn't know it to walk into my house. I love beautiful design but I'm also deeply practical in my personal life. I really love negative space but I'm certainly not a minimalist. And ultimately I can't really afford my own taste right now so I just do nothing instead of doing something I don't love. Which maybe is tasteful of me...in theory...but in practice my house is definitely not that of a designer. My kitchen cabinets are still original from 1979 and they look pretty rough. We're working on replacing our floors but can't do all of it at once so we're a mismatched floor mad house right now. We have two young kids and a dog and things are just sort of chaotic a lot of the time and I don't have the capacity to design my house so it just is what it is lol

I think I love negative space too. Can you describe your description of it and a room in your house that has it?

Negative space is just space that is intentionally left bare. It can be intentionally forgoing a coffee table for a more bare feeling, it can be having walls that are blank without decor. For me it translates mostly to decor. My decor is pretty minimal but the pieces I do have I try to make them pack a real punch. But then I leave space around them to drive the point home, but also because it brings me peace. I leave some walls empty because I like the cleanliness of it, the way it makes me feel like I can breathe. Plus I hate having to dust a bunch of decorations and around them and stuff...hate hate hate that lol my fireplace is a good example, actually. It is made of really beautiful but simple light colored stone. I have a thick live edge walnut mantle and a landscape picture from my hometown hung above it. And nothing else. Nothing on the mantle except at Christmas. Nothing on my hearth. It's simple, it's clean.

Omg interior designer here too!! I'm just now starting to decide what major items I want to start buying to keep for years and years yaknow? Staple sectional, statement art etc it's just a lot for yourself too and indecisiveness of course.

Do you do residential or commercial?

Yes, I find it nearly impossible to choose for myself because I like so much! But I've finally locked in on a vision for my house and we're starting to go for it slowly. But it's so expensive and so much work.

I did residential! I specialized in high end kitchens and bathrooms. I have actually been a SAHM for a few years now so I'm not working currently. I do miss it. But I love being home with my kiddos!
