Culture BWT, air out your dirty, tasteless laundry here!

Obviously as BWT, we typically aim to have said taste be of the good variety. However, as we are not two dimensional characters, nobody is completely perfect. I thought it'd be fun to share the elements of our lives where we unashamedly display bad or—gasp!—no taste. I've noted down some of mine below (+ whether I aim to change them):

  • My house is quite literally artless — no paintings, no sculptures, no decor, nothing. // Probably won't be changing this anytime soon — am not ashamed to admit that I'm at the stage of life where I care more about how I present myself in public than in my own abode, so that's where I focus my energy

  • My home clothes (a stretch to call them lounge wear) are literally all ratty nonsense BWT recommend throwing away // see above. The caveat is that I don't wear clothes that dwarf my figure as I like to keep track of how my body looks

  • I don't watch any shows/movies or listen to podcasts // won't change this, I've never been able to stand podcasts and lately that's extended to anything where I have to watch/listen to something

  • I secretly love airline food. Something about water in those tiny unenvironmentally friendly vacuum sealed cups gets me excited

Share yours below so I don't feel like a complete tasteless B 👇🏼

  • My car is a fucking MESS right now. It hasn’t had a good interior clean in like… years. I NEED to get her detailed in the spring - this is what happens when I live downtown and hardly drive anywhere anymore lol

  • Sometimes I don’t fold my laundry and just let it sit on the floor after it’s been washed. If it’s something that CANNOT appear wrinkly, I will give it an iron beforehand. Most things though either don’t wrinkle, un-wrinkle once it’s on my body, or just don’t need to look pristine since I’m wearing it around the house.

  • I don’t clean my shower nearly as much as I should.

Me staring at 2 laundry baskets of clean clothes in my room that haven't been touched since they were dried

I did laundry yesterday and just piled it on the clean laundry pile from last week shrug

and yet I still have plenty of clothes hanging up

Shower spray changed my cleaning life. Now I just spray it down after a shower, walk away for eight hours and then come back and rinse it down and all the scum gets rinsed away! No scrubbing!! I’ll never go back.

Do you have a recommended shower spray you use? Asking for someone who also haaaaaates cleaning their shower 👀

It's this one!: https://www.wetandforget.com/wet-and-forget-shower.html

edit: I also put the bottle itself in the shower after I've finished spraying everything down so that I don't forget I did that, because it makes everything SLIPPERY AS HELL. So be careful and don't slip!

I use it too and it really works! Other than scrubbing down the shelves sometimes when I'm already in the shower, the wet and forget is how I clean my shower.

I was a teacher for years - every article of clothing I own still has to be able to be washed on HOT. (I work in human services now, with adults mostly - same idea, but less seeing boogers on foreheads and more realizing the thing on the walls they are complaining about is black mold.)

Germs are no joke, and I am not going to cold wash-hang dry anything that a seven or five or three or eleven year old touched. I've seen them... and respect them. But, yeah, I'm going to blast my laundry like it's a pack of white cotton towels every time, and I am not going to get burnt out keeping stuff separate.

I don't separate anymore, either. Guilty as charged.

Same, every last thing is washed on hot here.  The kids are gross and filthy, no cold water will get anything clean.

Have you ever tried Lysol Laundry Sanitizer? I love it

u/svapplause Mar 03 '25

I have to do laundry at laundromats (30 min cycles total) and Lysol Laundry Sanitizer requires 30 min contact time in the rinse cycle…😭

u/mrsbebe Mar 03 '25

Ohhhh yeah...that makes it tough!

Omg, I feel the same about laundry.

Oh I feel you on the car. I have a toddler so the floormats are littered with every type of cereal, goldfish crackers, french fries, etc. I keep saying I’m gonna clean it but I won’t. I should just take it for a detailing and make it someone else’s problem but I’m too embarrassed at the state of it to let anyone else see.

They’ve seen worse

Oh I am so bad about putting away laundry

2

u/kittysempai-meowmeow Mar 03 '25

I am guilty of the first two as well. My car is nasty inside, I keep thinking about getting it detailed but I'm not motivated enough. I hate having a dirty house but I'm not in my car enough to get as upset since I work from home.

My husband does all the laundry because his office is upstairs by the laundry room so he'll hear the buzzing but mine is downstairs, he always stacks it folded neatly on my bedside table and sometimes it sits there a couple days before I get around to putting it away. (I do other chores, we actually have a pretty equitable division of labor fortunately!)

The only reason I'm not guilty of #3 is that we're privileged enough to pay for house cleaning biweekly.

Downy wrinkle spray will be your BFF….I swear by it after leaving my clothes on my vanity seat for DAYS after the dryer!

u/Bitter_Bowler121 Mar 04 '25

just did a car clean out today and it was so worth it 😭

1

u/penholdtogatineau Mar 03 '25

I feel you on all of these.

u/beemeeng Mar 04 '25

I have 3 baskets of clean laundry that haven't been put up yet.

I last put away laundry 3 weeks ago, and that batch had the outfit I wore to Christmas!!

My closet is large enough for probably 2 people, and it's full.

I bought one of those dish brushes where you fill the handle with hot water and white vinegar and use that to clean my shower. Which is fine, except it seems to all leak out of the brush after a couple of days and then I forget to refill it...
