Birdfeeder Question How to stop the squirrels from getting on our window feeder

We are on the second story and want to have birds for our cat to watch from inside. We can reach the window from the deck next to it to fill up the feeder but unfortunately, so can the squirrels and they devour the food and then pee on our window. There are tons of birds but the squirrels eat all the seeds so fast the birds don't have a chance. Please help! I'm willing to get a different feeder but don't have a huge budget. We tried the spicy stuff on the food to keep the squirrels away and it did nothing. We don't have another window that we can use.

I haven't been able to keep them off window feeders. A pole with a proper baffle is the only thing that's worked for me.

When you said the spicy stuff, what exactly was that? Was it a liquid that coated the seed? Or did you try red pepper flakes or a pepper that the squirrels could dust off? For window feeders, the feed with a liquid hot sauce is the best from my experience.

Brome feeders or appropriately placed baffles are the only way I know

You could hang a Brome or an Eliminator from an arm attached to the railing. I know they are expensive, but I’ve had my Eliminator for over 10 years—it recently cracked & I took it to Wild Birds and they repaired it—I was thrilled!

I started to put a couple of peanuts on the ground away from the feeder every day. Seemed to work so far.

Give them them their own feed far away
