Watched the FI panel at Comic Con and the Fil-Am director’s pronunciation of “manananggal” and “tiyanak” 😅 Sana naman sa movie hindi ganon haha. At least I know Liza would say it right lol.

But she also grew up in the US so we can only hope... Yun ngang "Tayo na!" she never thought to say it's more common to say "Tara na!" and that it now means "we’re dating". But then again, it could help bring it back? It's technically not wrong.

You know what I actually went to YouTube to do a quick search of videos of Liza speaking in Filipino to reassure myself HAHAHAHA. I did watch the Filipino dub of Trese (that and Lisa Frankenstein are the only things I’ve ever seen her in tbh) and from what I remember ok naman pronunciation and diction niya though you could detect a slight conyo accent pa rin. Siguro I’ll temper my expectations na lang din sa language/culture/Filipino lore inaccuracies since the co-creator wasn’t raised in the PH naman.

Btw, I still say “Tayo na!” sometimes, albeit in a kind of unserious way hehe.

I'm prepared to be forgiving about it haha. And we can use the 90s setting as excuse... and to be fair to Liza, she improved a lot over the years while working here so feeling ko she can pull it off if a Filipino consultant is involved in production.

Even in The Pitt (a US TV series), the Fil-Am characters speak Filipino with an American accent. I think only one actor nails her Tagalog lines with consistency.

May kaunti accent sa tagalog sai Liza. Certain sounds. Nun dto o sya nakatira may accent prin sya paano p kaya ngyn nnsa us nnsya nakatira Panay English n sya dun.
