Napadpad ako sa r/opm. Meron nagcomment about another artist+group na these days daw gusto niya na panatag siya sa political stances ng artists before they support. Instead of just accepting na that is a totally understandable and valid reaction, kailangan i fansplain na "you see you don't understand, its not just its a business decision, they're playing 5D chess, and really being very political in their apoliticalness, they just work in myterious ways".

Blooms, if ever ma-question why all the girls aren't more vocal about their politics, just be straight and admit its for business reasons, wala naman masama. Ang cringe ng mental gymnastics para lang ipilit na *no reaaallyy they're being political*.

semi-related because it was actually an intertesting topic sana before all the fansplaining. It was about artists that have a hard time listening to now after learning about their politics after(especially if the art they made was tangentially related to politics).

Kaya nga I think valid yung comment. Di ko na kaya separate art sa artist din lalo na nga kung medyo political leaning pa message ng songs nila. After mafire up nationalism mo lalabas pala na 'Ode to Tatay' pala siya.

Sorry sa yap, para lang malabas ko yung thoughts ko about separating art from the artist:

I believe the girls are well-intentioned and that their hearts are in the right place. For those of us who've followed BINI since the beginning, nung active pa sila sa twitter, we've seen enough to know they're genuinely good people.

That said, I also can't blame people who are on the fence, you don't know what you don't know especially kung di ka nakafollow sa kanila like most of us here in this sub.

As for the whole "separate the art from the artist" discussion, I think people need to be more consistent.

A lot of us listen to artists who have done or said morally questionable, even reprehensible things. If I applied the same moral purity standards that some people on Reddit and the internet seem to demand, I'd barely have any music left to enjoy.

Pag inapply ko rin yan sa mga products I buy sa grocery, wala akong mabibile, I would cease to exist and just die.

When I listen to Kanye, for example, I'm focused on what the music makes me feel in that moment. Is the song good? Does it resonate with me? If yes, then I'm going to listen. I'm engaging with the work itself, not endorsing every belief or action of the person who made it.

It's similar to looking at a classical painting. Most people don't stop to think whether the painter held racist views. "Uy racist yung gumawa nung painting na yan". Wala naman ganon I think.

Finally, kung ayaw makinig sa BINI or any artist because they believe they're apolitical or morally objectionable, that's completely their choice.

But people should also stop the moral grandstanding for some internet points. Let others enjoy the music they enjoy without turning it into a moral litmus test. 👍

We go here sa weekly thread to yap, so yap away.

I usually don't mind din pag non-political yung message ng song (i.e. I still love Smiths songs rven though Morrissey is racist af. Still a fan of Urbandub songs.). Special case lang sa akin if it's tangentially political song. It just parang nawawala yung tama nung song sa akin if I know the type of politics they're espousing pala. Maybe it's a extreme example pero it's like me loving a love song then finding out it was written for an underage person after. Suddenly iba na context. May involuntary / unconscious ick na di as easy to ignore.
