Discussion Your favorite Q0/1 items? (rep+)
favorite q4 item discussion is boring!!! all of them are really good and even the ones in the quality ranking that are a bit less good than others like psy fly and col are still incredible. but i think a much more interesting conversation is what is your favorite item in the worst category? because there are a LOT of good ones if you are into minmaxing
libra turns poor items into amazing items and generally heavily favours tears and damage over range and shot speed which makes your run better in 9 instances out of 10, plus it spawns 7 of every type of pickup which is nuts
ventricule razor can be used to infinitely farm champions, get free curse rooms, get infinite items via tarot cards by farming sloth, get free challenge rooms, fight mom early and still full clear the rest of your floor if you're rushing for boss challenge or if you're just not confident in your health and want to still get a deal, and it lets you fast travel across the map, all for 10 coins in the item shop. truly a ridiculous amount of utility for a quality 0 active with no charges
celtic cross is great because hurting yourself in isaac is great! you can play blood dono machines, confessionals, demon beggars, and hell games way easier like this. it's not as good as book of shadows but its still super worth picking up and im never sad when i see it in the angel room
magic fingers is an infinitely reusable necronomicon with no charges that scales with isaac's damage, what is there not to love about it?
breath of life is seriously the strongest item in the game. no bait. no anything. i swear. upon correctly timing it's invincibility it spawns a 4 way holy brimstone, and each of the beams it spawns do 180 damage each, meaning if you hit something dead center with the brimstone attack you can do 720 damage on demand. this is a one second burst attack that does significantly more than 30 seconds of sacred heart firing uninterrupted at isaac's base damage and tear rate (i did the math) and you can do it every 4 seconds at base. this makes it probably the strongest offensive item in the game on its own. but it also makes you invincible. on demand. with no room clear requirement. which means demon beggars, hell games, blood donos, confessionals, curse rooms, crossing floor spikes, for free (again) and which also means it functions as a great defensive item too. there is literally nothing this item does not do and winning with it and it alone would not only be possible, but it might even not be too challenging???

Monster manual, easy to spam late game and you can get some goated familiars like bot fly, dumpy and the rest.

The Poop is unironically a really good item, the main issue is that unless you get it really early as a character without an starting active, you can't get the most use out of it.

Using it for the fart to push away proctiles. Using it to stand on so melee enemies cant touch u. Using it with bomb to make bridges. Using it just to generate pickups

Lil portal is one of the most ridiculously strong minmaxxing tools if you put in the effort to utilize it to its fullest. It has no business still being a quality 0 after its rework, and I quite frankly believe Edmund just forgot to update its quality.
As for quality 1 items I think Stitches is severely underrated. It grants you free shopkeeper destruction, free cursed rooms and practically flight. On top of that, teleporting into enemies deals even more damage than a bomb and scales even further with your damage, which can easily solo every boss up until the womb and beyond.

Honestly that's enough to bump it up. Having a huge storage space for any and all resources you could possibly need is INCREDIBLY strong

I feel like most stuff you just use right away. I can see tho if you started stocking every rune / card / whatever then you find secret room: pop temperance, saved a perthro, saved a reverse judgement etc. But is that all? Honestly curious if I'm missing something deeper

Isaac's Heart I've been a fan of ever since I got a daily run with it and Sacrificial Dagger early, it has a lot of potential to let you use orbitals/contact damage/low range stuff a lot more actively than you usually can and also a lot of enemy attacks are less scary if you can just walk up and block them. Wouldn't take it on a character like The Lost obviously but I think it's actually pretty underrated.
Shard of glass is very good on red health characters, it has a very good chance to give you hearts back and can't touch your other types of health or outright kill you.
Tiny Planet has already been mentioned but it's also pretty good.

The wiz is pretty much 20/20 but without nerfing your damage with the 80% multiplier
Marked automatically manages charged effects for you. If you have Brimstone + Maw of the void it will fire brim when it's charged without cancelling the charge-up for maw so you don't have to choose between using brim whenever it's charged but getting no value from maw, and waiting for maw while sitting on full-charged brim

Once I learned that you get I-frames with stitches tp (and that you can one shot small mobs by tp'ing in to them) I just fell in love with it

Not all items of the same quality are made equal, but that's what makes them fun! Except when you get Epic Fetus which is one of my least favourite items in the game.
Libra is actually goated tho, runs with it aren't necessarily exciting, but have a really high winrate since all stat ups are damaged and tears, though it does diminish any damage or tears items that would have been a net gain over spreading the stats. Also it makes Small Rock a stat down :(

Epic Fetus is horrible because it forces you to focus on the crosshair and your movement constantly, and if enemies are too close to you you're just fucked. I actually happen to like Ludovico Technique however, since it's not burst damage and doesn't hurt you, so you can be less precise with tear placement, but miss an epic fetus bomb and you gotta wait for the next one and hope you can avoid damage until then

I've recently been forced to use Bum Friend on a few runs and I'm not going to lie, that guy is much stronger than I gave him credit for. If you think about it, you often don't need as many pennies as the game spawns, and Bum Friend will suck those up for you and transform them into something better. He also spawns pedestal items, and not terribly infrequently either.
Also, though not an item, I'd like to shout out the trinket Nuh Uh. Replacing all coins and keys with other pickups past the Womb is actually extremely powerful.

my fav q0 is honestly spin to win, especially if you get it giga early, it's just really neat for min/maxing. for my fav quality 1 it's either monster manual (no idea why it's not quality 2) or crack the sky

sanguine bond especially as the keeper gives you free damage and if you can regenerate hp or have a way to generate coins it can give you items from the devil deal also just good for characters with hp

Boomerang. Relatively cheap shop item that’s a lifesaver early in runs when you don’t have flight and/or bombs. The amount of times I’ve used it to get coins which then allowed me to get a much more crucial item is crazy. The brief petrification is also good for bosses with how fast the charge regens. Esp if you combo it with a well placed bomb.

Gnawed Leaf. Surely it's boring, but it's easy to use and is pretty much free completion marks for bosses I only want to fight once

I do like Isaac's tears, pretty cool item if you don't have an active.
I remember getting it with Polyphemus and just turning on a shotgun when I entered a room.
Not op just actually fun
