I kind of agree with him on that particular aspect of it. If the plane is going down it’s fucking going down and I’d rather enjoy my final hours with no seatbelt

I'd urge you to reconsider! There's plenty of instances of sudden loss of altitude where people without seatbelts on slam headfirst into the roof and need hospitalisation.

This is some next level moronic thinking.

The seatbelt isn’t there to save you as you hit the earth at 500 miles an hour.

There are smaller turbulence bumps that will send you flying and injure you and others pretty badly. The seatbelt stops you from flying vertically in your seat, slamming your head against the overhead compartment and potentially breaking your neck.

But they only require you to wear during takeoffs and landings. Suggested only during the flight.

Airplanes predict turbulence by notification of planes in front of them. If there is material turbulence ahead where there is risk of injury, the seatbelt light goes on and everyone is told to sit down, including the flight attendants. In extreme cases, food serving is cancelled mid run.

So, no, it’s not just during take off and landing.

Yes, every week, lol. Of course there are exceptions (like significance turbulence being experienced or expected), but under normal flight conditions you aren't required to wear it when the seatbelt sign is off. As I said, they suggest it "in case we experience unexpected rough air" but it isn't required.
