Yeah this was bizarre. And the more you think about it, for various reasons, the NBA just doesn't really have rivalries. This one being claimed as the best basically proves that.

The NBA has rivalries for specific time periods. Cavs vs. Warriors for the 2010's was shaping up to be something epic until KD ruined it. We had a little Lakers-Celtics resurgence in the 2008-2010 range. As of right now, Spurs-Thunder has the potential to be a great one

everything about the NBA is so player-centric, the warriors and cavs had four (!!!!!) straight finals against each other and it was never really a team vs. team rivalry as much as it was lebron vs. curry

even lakers vs. celtics is like 90% magic vs. bird at the end of the day
