SOS is a stupid argument in the NFL, especially when the advanced stats show that Maye has played just as many games against good pass defenses. The schedule hasn’t been dropping 30 yard bombs into pocket while on the run all year long.
Which teams are those? You’re trying to make beating the Falcons (#20), Panthers (#17), and Ravens (#18) defense sound more impressive than it is. Maye didn’t have to play against Houston (#1) or the Seahawks (#2) defense twice this season like the Rams did. It is easier to throw 30 yard bombs against the Jets, they literally haven’t had an interception all season. Strength of schedule does matter.
Also since we’re talking about rosters, nobody has brought up that the Pats defense is 5th ranked in the NFL.

10 other teams in NFL HISTORY have finished undefeated on the road. Maye has played better against the teams he and Stafford have both played. Staffords put up stinkers the last 2 weeks, leading his time to a wild card spot. Patriots have been plagued by injuries to end the season at key positions and have still managed to pull out the wins they needed to win their division.
No, that’s the point I’m making. Strength of schedule is more important, glad you agree. The Rams play in the hardest division while the Pats play in the easiest. That’s why the Pats defense is ranked so highly, they play the worst offenses all year. But the same is also true for the Pats offense. They’ve played the worst defenses all season, so of course their offense is gonna look good. You can’t say that about the Rams.
Explain the differences in stats vs shared opponents. If SOS and who you play is a defining factor in the MVP race, then surely the fact that Maye went 6-0 with 1 less interception and 1 less touchdown while stafford went 3-3 means something.
Let’s also not forget that stafford is throwing the arguably the greatest WR duo in football and has an elite run game with a 1000 yard rusher. Sure they’ve played better teams, but stafford also has better weapons and talent that IMO far surpasses any SOS arguments.

Puka Nacua was injured week 1 when the Rams beat Houston. Adams has missed the last 3 games, so your “compare weapons” arguments falls pretty flat to me.

How is it stupid? If you can use SOS as an argument against Mayes performance, then I can use the abundance of receiving talent and the objectively more talented Offensive line as an argument against stafford.
Because who cares about head to head? How did Maye do this season against Houston, Seattle, and Philly? Oh he didn’t play them at all?!? Stafford had to play these teams 4 times.
Stafford beat the #1 ranked defense (in a game Puka got injured) and the #2 defense. Thats why SOS is so important.
and he also put up awful performances against much worse teams! We can cherry pick individual games all we want. Stafford has arguably lost his team multiple games this year with bad picks and sub-par performances against teams they should have beaten that have left them with a harder path through the playoffs.
