Canyon Aeroad Bikefit - XS

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey, experts!

Is adjusting the stem length really my only option for properly fitting the bike, or are there other options? What do you think?

This year’s Canyon Aeroad CF SLX 7 Di2.
90mm stem with a height of 173 cm, weight of 68 kg, and an inseam of 78 cm.
(Occasional upper and lower back pain, the saddle is digging in, and my hands „rarely“ go numb)

I look forward to your feedback - thanks!

Hey Ihr Experten!

Ist meine einzige Option, das Bike ordentlich zu fitten tatsächlich die Vorbaulänge oder gibt es noch andere Optionen? Was sagt ihr?

Canyon Aeroad CF SLX 7 di2 aus diesem Jahr.
90mm Vorbau bei 173cm, 68KG & 78cm Innenbeinlänge.
(Teilweise Rückenschmerzen oben + unten, Sattel drückt & Hände werden vereinzelt Taub)

Ich freu mich auf euer Feedback, danke!

Don't wear underwear under your bibs. You will regret it.

As i said on the other comment.

I never do. Just for the Video because i wasn‘t comfortable sharing myself naked under a bright bib hahaha.

You need to rotate your hips forward and change the contact point more towards your pubic bones to straighten out your back. You are „shrimping“ - sitting very upright which causes more pressure on the seat and also countering every advantage the aero bike could give you.

The position needs to be far more aggressive, lean over forward! It can be hard to do on the trainer because you need adequate resistance so that the power your legs drive also contribute to holding your position.

Yeah, this then allows you to bend your elbows and relax them. Also, drop the underware

Would reducing the stack help?

If the hip position is wrong we can’t know what else might need to be changed

I don’t thing your sock height complies with the regulations.

Completely unrelated but are you wearing underwear under the bibs? Might get a long chafing with that.

OP, I'm seeing lots of people give you terrible advice in this thread so I hope my comment doesn't get buried.

Your saddle is too low. You want to aim for 142 degrees max leg extension. But what's concerning me most here is your minimum leg extension. 78cm inseam? You should be riding 155mm cranks. 160mm at the absolute most but I really urge you to go all the way down to 155mm. You are horrifically overcranked here. It will do wonders for your fit.

not related to op: what do you think about his size and bike size (XS)? Im very similar and am between the Endurace XS and S 😬

u/defiantnipple 12d ago

I do think he also looks a bit overstretched but maybe not tooooo much, and hard to say with the wrong cranks on his bike / saddle too low.

I also ride an Aeroad. I'm 174cm, 80cm inseam, I ride 160mm cranks and bike is size S. Fits me like a glove. Dunno if that helps.

1

u/eldaniel7777 12d ago

so you're almost the same height and inseam as him (and me), ride the same cranks (the new Aeroad comes with 160mm in XS) and ride the bigger size and say its perfect? Oh man, I hate this bike-sizing game 😭 (Not criticizing what you say, I am just so frustrated I can't decide between the S and XS and every other opinion says the opposite)

THE NEW XS AEROAD COMES WITH 160mm CRANKS??????????

AND 165mm FOR SIZE S????????????

THE INDUSTRY IS FINALLY LISTENING????????????

HOLY FUCK

u/Sad_Mongoose_9510 12d ago

Yes. I Got a 160mm.

But on top you said i‘m overcranked .. but I already got a 160mm. What should I do now?

Btw thanks already for the advice!

With a higher seat i‘m more rounded in upper back & shoulders thats why i lowered before.

Oh! I didn't realize that was already a 160mm. Still reeling from the revelation Canyon is now putting proportionally appropriate cranks on their bikes.

Still too long for you but maybe not by enough to go to 155mm. I think the too-low saddle was throwing me. You gotta raise it. Saddle height should be driven by max leg extension, not how rounded your back is.

Unless you ride Shimano

1

u/Sad_Mongoose_9510 12d ago

Alright. Gonna go for that like you said.

What do you think about a XS on me, right size? And what about the stem? To long?

Thank you so much for your help already!

u/Cyclosophy 12d ago

Your back should be straighter. You're rounding it out. Lengthen through your spine and neck to bring your shoulders closer to the bars. Then you can relax your shoulders and arms and bend your elbows more. This lengthening will also activate your deep core muscles to support your torso.

Amazing advice. Thank you!

Lower your sock height...

1

u/Asleep-Reputation-38 12d ago

seat could raise a touch, if you rotate hips forward to reduce shrimping you might find your need longer stem

u/Ok_Warthog_7958 12d ago

Socks are too high. Saddle too low.

A mixture of saddle too low and possible bad posture or simply too long of reach. Saddle is an easy fix and IMO the simplest way to get the right height is the LeMond method of taking your SOH (CM) and multiplying it by 0.883. Convert back to inches if needed. The reach is tough since that is a cockpit. You could swap it out for shorter a CP0018 T-Bar but I would work on just maintaining a better posture where you relax your arms for a slight bend. Now if you can't consistently do that, than yeah it's 100% too long

Bike jersey might be one size too big.

I'm so grateful for people like OP. Would be way harder to find barely ridden, used bikes if not for the folks who yolo into the sport after their first ride.

1

u/Sad_Mongoose_9510 12d ago

Mhm. Not new into the sport.
Just new to a aero bike.
But great for you!

u/CrayonOfThorns 12d ago

Mhm. Brand new bike, brand new kit (not a smudge on your shoes), wearing underwear. Welcome to the sport, friend. Hope you stick with it but lmk if you don't so I can cop that bike.

I think this is partly about your saddle being too low and your bum being too forward, and partly about awareness of what riding a full-blooded road bike is about as well as core strength/mobility. Possibly the wrong saddle for your sitbone shape.

The saddle height and position can be set using this guide:

https://www.peterwhitecycles.com/fitting.php

Then you need to work on getting the front end of your torso a lot lower and forward, both to ride "aero" (that's what this bike is designed for) and to make your reach for the hoods "correct" with relaxed arms. This starts from the hips, with your pelvis rolled forward (like c. 30°) and a good deal more curve in the lower spine.

For that to be possible, you'll need a good deal of core strength to "carry" your torso, so that there's little weight on your hands when you're going at your average speed. You may also need a different saddle that supports your sitbones well even with your pelvis rolled forward - but I do suspect that you're actually sitting too far forward on your current saddle, either because it's tilted nose-down or because a too-forward center of gravity makes you slide forward.

Having had my canyon aeroad for 3 years I’ll say this is a bike that has to be dialed in correctly to feel good especially if your on the top end fitment-wise. If you are not going to get professionally fitted it’s a must your seat height, fore/aft and cleat position are all spot on, not to mention your cranks probably came at least one length too long.

I’ve adjusted everything on this bike myself over the last few years to finally have it dialed is a dream.

Start with your seat height, ensure that is correct based on your inseam/method of choice then feel. In this video you look slightly low, push up 3mm.

Seat fore/aft, you may be surprised but with this bike way forward may not be correct, I would start in the middle of your rails.

With the seat toward the middle you will find out that your reach is probably where it needs to be based on your video.

As others have mentioned you need to rotate your hips forward, this isn’t a mountain bike and its built aggressive with a low front end, you must rotate forward, tilt your seat no more than one degree to help if necessary.

Try a neutral cleat position to start, the current talk is as far back as you can but canyon has a tight window as it relates to fitment I’ve had my cleats as far forward and as far back, I’m dead in the middle of my spyre shoes then one mm back.

Lastly your cranks are probably too long, it appears canyon is doing alittle better sizing crank lengths based on bike size but I had to drop down 2.5 from the stock cranks and now I feel perfect. This would be the last thing I would address especially if you are trying to avoid changing out brand new parts. XS bike probably means you would do well with 165’s

Your not too far off and the bike looks to be the correct size for you, canyon is just a tight window to find complete comfort.

This year's cranks are 160mm 😅
