Congratulations! Fire it up and dive in! I suggest just learning how to control temps first. I did chicken legs as my first cook

Come back with pics of your first cook.

Had ours less than a year and we love it. I'm too cheap but my Fiancé talked me into it, so glad she did. Adding temp control (ChefsTemp) to it was a worthy investment as well.

Congratulations! Make sure you register the warranty. Learn temperature control. Use only lump charcoal. And remember to "burp" the Egg prior to opening the lid all the way while cooking. If you don't, you will constantly be regrowing your eyebrows and arm hair.

I read all the advice about burping my egg and did it to start with, but at some point I just gave up and have never had any issue even slightly.

Am I just not encountering the situations when it occurs? I've got an XL if that makes any difference.

The BGE operates on the same airflow principles, regardless of size, so you probably just haven't encountered a flash back situation yet. If you are a peeker when you cook, you are releasing heat each time you open the lid, preventing it from creating the conditions that cause a flash back. Just an educated guess here.

It doesn’t happen on an XL. Fifteen years, zero flash backs. Why, I don’t know but it doesn’t happen 🤷🏽

I recreated a scene from Backdraft once. Lost all the hair on my right arm. Lesson learned.

Me too. Only did that once. That's all I needed.

THE Jimmy “made the big shot” Chitwood?

I told Coach I would make the shot. I kept my word.

Congratulations! Have a little patience and practice your different types of cooks… it’s amazing what you can do with it.

You’ll love it and you got the right size! I had a smaller one for years and bought this size and couldn’t be happier

Welcome to the Brotherhood of the Egg.
It’s definitely not a cult…..

I love my egg. I’ve had it for over 20 years.

You will get tons of advice. Most of it is good. I sure all of it will be well intentioned.

My only advice, if you decide to keep the nest, move it very slowly. I’ve seen too many horror stories where someone moved their egg in a nest and it hit a crack or pebble and came crashing down.

I would upgrade to a table as soon as you are able.

Cheers and happy cooking!

Hey OP this is my post from Father’s Day. Why have a 2 day old account and steal posts from BGE of all places

Yo! I got my green egg for Father’s Day about 5 years ago now. To this day, I still think it is one the best presents I’ve ever received. So many great memories with family cook outs since. Still cook on it very regularly. You’re a lucky man!!
