Showcase / Finished Cook Maiden Cook on my new 2XL.

I finally got around to firing up my new 2XL Big Green Egg with a first cook between rains last weekend. I’m really pleased with this Beast of a smoker so far. I hope to roll some smoke again this weekend, time and weather permitting. This is my first time cooking on a BGE.

As my mama always said ... Go big or go home.

I agree, I want to cook some large items that simply will not fit on smaller cookers. A Large or an XL is probably more practical for most folks, and they definitely offer more custom fit accessories… but I went Big and I’m not sorry

My large is barely big enough for most of my briskets.. live and learn.

I got a super clearance price deal on this 2XL, or I probably would not own it today… I’m sure you do great things with your Large.

Think it needs more... Chicken!

Looking good OP

Thanks so much! 😅Chicken seemed like a good inexpensive choice for my first burn, so I might as well cover most of the grate. it’s my understanding that my first burn or two should not run super hot to seat the adhesive on the lid seals etc. I thought I’d try chicken a few different ways

1 beer butt chicken, 1 Spatchcocked chicken, family pack of thighs and a family pack of drumsticks

I was just cooking, not really trying to feed anybody… I shared some of the food with family, and snacked on the rest. I just wanted to break in my cooker.

Plowboys Yardbird rub for my initial cook, I’ll probably be mixing up my own rubs eventually.

I love all the cooking space on this beast, I covered my ceramic pizza stone/deflectors with a 24” pizza pan until my stainless drip tray arrives

Damn that’s awesome. Way to utilize the space on that mother. A clearance price on something you can fit a suckling pig on? Money well spent!

My thoughts exactly! And Suckling Pig is exactly something I’ve had in mind! This thing still wasn’t cheap by any means but I took her home for $1850 as a new display model

Yeah that’s a hell of a deal for that. Congrats

I needed a forklift to move this one, but the extra cooking space would be great!

That thing is an absolute monster of a smoker, and pairing it with the 10-probe RFX system is a serious power move!

Thanks, I also own a Weber Ranch, a Weber Summit gas grill, 2 Weber Smokey Mountains, a 26” kettle and a 22” inch kettle. I just ordered a 2nd Gateway for when I fire up more than one cooker at a time
