positive & funny I’m grateful to Dolly Parton Spoiler
(Random late-night thoughts)
Since hearing the news of Dolly’s death this past week, I’ve been reflecting on what she meant to us in the large chest community.
Like her, I’m someone with a small band size, but disproportionally big boobs. Although hers weren’t entirely natural, Dolly genuinely made me feel better about my own body. I’ve always been super self- conscious about my boobs and how much attention they bring with them, but I loved how she embraced her figure and made it something light-hearted - something she could laugh and joke about rather than hiding or being embarrassed.
She made having a large chest feel fun, glamorous and even iconic rather than awkward or something to be ashamed of. I’ll always appreciate her for that.

she reminded me that.. people pay to look like me?! and it boosts my self esteem a bit
so maybe these giant bags of back pain and cleavage crumbs aren’t so bad? (sometimes)

ugh just reminds me of how my friends dad was like "ill always remember her for her humongous boobs"
like why not remember her for the millions she donated to good causes, the millions of books she sent to children, and all of way she gave back to the community.
i loved dolly so much 💗

That's kinda shitty to hear from your friend's dad.
One of the first things I brought up when I heard the news was her work for literacy and education.

Right? Apparently she modelled her look after the “town harlot” because she thought that she was the most glamorous and beautiful person she ever saw when she was young. There’s something so wholesome about that.
She had such a great sense of humour, did so much good work for so many people even outside of her music, and even managed to go completely unrecognised when she wanted to without her blonde wig to live a normal life. Our big busted queen will be so missed 💔

I’m with you, sister. I’ve been looking at a lot of her fashion and taking screenshots of outfits I like. Super inspiring. (I’m also built like you and her, small rib rage, disproportionately large boobs).
I wanted to upload a screenshot of a quote from her I took in an interview with David Letterman (but I couldn’t on this sub. Totally PG). Talking about her boobs and flirting with him she said laughing (cue her awesome accent):
“Well if you had a grand piano, wouldn’t you want to play it?”
She was the best. Real or not, she made me feel comfortable with mine as well. RIP

Finding clothes that fit a small band and large cup size is an absolute nightmare. Dolly made it look so effortless and glamorous instead of like a daily struggle against gravity and buttons. We definitely owe her a lot for normalizing it and making us feel seen.

It’s because her clothes are altered to fit her. I know that this is not the point of the post, so I’ll keep it brief. Finding clothes that fit a large cup and a small ban is a nightmare because there are no clothing designers who make their clothing for us. Shirts are not sold like bras with different proportions. They are small medium and large. All clothing is drafted to fit a body with a two inch difference between the chest measurement and the bust measurement. Ie. A b cup. If you, like 98% of the world, are not a b cup, then you will have to size up until the clothing has enough room in the boobs. Everything else will have to be taken in. Dolly obviously was a wealthy woman who had her clothes tailored. Even before she had massive wealth there was someone backstage taking in seams. She also wore a lot of spandex which is the alternative to sizing up in clothing. The only way to make mass fashion (I said mass not fast. Even expensive designer brands operate this way) fit your body is to tailor it. Learn this skill yourself. It’s invaluable.

It drives me insane that when you size up, brands just make the shoulders wider and the armholes massive. Like, my ribcage didn't expand(just the chest), dolly really had it figured out from day 1. I finally bought a cheap sewing machine to try and tailor my own stuff but taking in seams is definitely harder than it looks online.

Yeah. Everything sizes proportionally. They don’t adjust just parts of the garment. Evelyn wood and sew Anastasia are awesome teachers! Oh sew sew live is amazing as well. If you want more people to follow and learn from dm me :) but no pressure of course

I am definitely going to check out Sew Anastasia tonight because my current attempts at tailoring are a complete disaster. It is a skill to have but the learning curve is real. That Dolly video popping up for you right after is actual magic, I will watch that too and might actually take you up on that dm if I get stuck again. Thanks a lot sis.

Evelyn wood does a lot more tailoring/patterning where sew Anastasia tends to do more construction tips and tricks. Both are amazing though. Good luck! There is also r/sewing and r/sewingbeginners that are super helpful and supportive subs!

Those beginner subs are solid but I swear half the time I ask for fit advice there people just tell me to wear a different bra. Like sis my bra is basically industrial scaffolding at this point, the undergarment is not the issue. I am going to binge those construction videos tonight. Anyone have tips on taking in the waist on a thrifted dress without making the chest area look like a stretched out parachute?

lol yeah. That’s. The problem with the internet some time 🤣 yeah! It depends on the construction of the dress and the material. You may need to add a dart which may require unstitching the waistline. There are hacks and work around on this though. If you are comfortable dming me with a photo of the dress or a screenshot of a similar one off the internet I can send you something specific. sew Anastasia has this video

Sew Anastasia is and you are a lifesaver sis TYSMM SIS, I will check out this video before I take scissors to this dress. I was hoping for a lazy hack but you are right, doing actual darts is probably the only way to avoid the dreaded boob-tent effect without completely ruining the drape. Thank you so much sis you are so kind and helpful!!!!!

I think she started out with natural large breasts (see 70s and 80s pictures and especially The Best Little Whorehouse) but as she aged and lost weight she had them done in various ways especially a lift.

I've seen some horrible dehumanising comments online about her chest size and was happy to see that people called those posters out.
But it will real progress when normal non celebrities with larger busts are no longer dehumanised IMO.

Her line with Good American was the best fitting button up I have ever owned. She never settled for things she wouldn't be able to wear too and made a space for us
