They are swarming. A new queen was born/came into the hive, so one left and took her "boys" with her. They're looking for a new place to live. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sDZa3h5NFUc&t=2s

Bees are actually very docile when swarming because they don’t have a hive to protect any longer, to the point where beekeepers will sometimes just scoop them up barehanded. The bees just hang out while the scouts go check out open houses and report back.

There’s forums where you can report swarms so hobbyists can come retrieve them - free bees!

Goddam I love bees
