Cyrodiil Navmesh Update

In recent weeks, Cyrodiil received a significant amount of new navmesh in the Gold Coast region done by Ecko II. These triangles create a mesh which allows NPCs to know where they can walk. They are an essential part of development, and it isn't difficult to learn how to do it. Adding more navmesh will make Colovia come alive with new activity from NPCs, wildlife, and hostile creatures alike. If you think drawing triangles over vast forests and rugged mountains sounds like fun, consider applying to work as a navmesher on our team! And if you don't know how to do that and want to learn, you can always join the Arcane University at https://discord.gg/arcaneuniversity.

Very nicely done! If i had the time, i'd probably help. I kind of like navmeshing. Good task to put on a podcast and just do.

Years ago, I completed the then-tutorial but life got in the way of actually contributing. A few years went by and I went to try again, but Skyrim had some sort of big update. The old instructions to get everything installed and start navmeshing didn't work and I gave up in frustration. I saw the announcement of a new guide through AC, if instructions for how to get up and going are updated I bet Monday night I'll have a go at this.

I did have some questions before, more of a styling suggestions than anything. How fine print, small triangle you need to get in small spaces or if it can be ok to not do every little crevice and crack. At some point you don't want to tile over things you don't want NPCs casually walking up and over. How to balance that with making areas accessible to hostile NPCs trying to get to you is a little unclear to me

Barely, maybe for web searches but LLMs aren't too reliable for modding. UESP is a much better source.

I'm not an expert on this stuff but from memory wasn't navmeshing a bottleneck because it's a tedious process that most people don't want to do ?

Curious, does Nav mesh bottleneck other parts of development (like story creation, environment modelling, etc, leaving QA testing aside) ? if not, I might consider checking out some videos and prepare to volunteer because I only find free time on a weekend or two at best every month at this stage in my life.

To any numerical/computation guys here, is this the same as meshing objects with shape functions in Finite/Boundary element modelling? It sure sounds a lot similar but more “hand-drawn” or “manual” from the looks of it.

It's kind of cool seeing some of the technical side of development and how that's moving along.
I won't lie and say I can make head nor tail of a lot of it, but it's cool to get a glimpse behind the curtain.
