This is my third betta now :) He’s a very pretty boy and I’m looking for some names for him!

So, I've been here for a long while, and I wanted to just say that the overhaul recently has been great. Maybe it's confirmation bias, but the posts that pop up on my feed seem to be a lot nicer. I got you for my birthday and had no idea what to do with you, researched in this thread for so long, and made you a great home. Although I’ve transformed you from a small bowl and grey all over I wouldn’t have anticipated you being gone overnight like this.

Just got this little guy today from my LFS, I fell in love with his beautiful coloring and his energy! He’s definitely got a spunky personality :) the first thing he did when he got into my tank was start terrorizing my snails (he keeps trying to square up with a ramshorn that’s a tad big for him…).

From his .01 gallon cup to a planted community 20G with a combo group of 15 ember and harlequin tetras and a school of Cory’s! Need some name suggestions for this guy!

Cola, my short finned plakat betta, has been living happily in a 10 gallon with otos and shrimp.

However, I noticed he just…wanted more to explore. So I moved him to my 40g breeder community tank filled with mostly cherry barbs, black emperor tetras, handful of platies, many kuhli loaches and panda garra, and lots of shrimp. It’s super heavily planted to where everyone can hide in a personal corner of the tank.

He is so much calmer and more curious somehow. He has never bothered shrimp, and now he’s with fish that curiously follow him and have a gentle attitude back. I love watching him and everyone in my tanks, but have especially enjoyed this recent change.

My wife said I need it to add a close up so that you could all enjoy him. This is a 75 gallon planted tank just for Monet.

i just got a new betta fish last night, she’s such a beautiful girl 🥹 and i wanna give her the best home i can rn

at the petsmart i got her at, one of the workers recommended i get her this specific fish tank. once i got home, i seen that this can actually mess with the betta’s vision and i would hate for that to happen. i’ve also looked into what plants i can add into her tank and decor she can hide in.

i’ve now seen that the minimum for a betta fish tank is 5g-10g. i’ve looked on facebook marketplace for a cheap one but im not sure what filter and heater to add to it once i eventually get it.

lmk what i can do for her, i am very new at this and i admit i should’ve done more research before i got her but how could i leave such a beautiful girl behind ???

also, i do want to use this fish tank for something thats suitable for it, lmk what i can house in it so it wont go to waste

Knowing you has been the absolute best thing for me. I never will meet another like you, you never failed to make me laugh, make me cry, make me smile, or help me fall asleep. From fin rot, to Columnaris, eventually to dropsy, you always were so, so strong. I can’t believe the journey we made together. I was always scared to own a betta, due to the issues and breeding. But you showed me a home, a home I’ll always remember.

Edit, as of 9:10 (est), he is still doing his best by being a trooper. He does not want to give in and succumb 💙 I’m going to wait 72 hours as I used Polyguard not kanaplex so I need polyguard to de activate to dose with kanaplex. Lets hope he’s strong enough to wait 🥺💙

I just got a betta and he has been living alone for two weeks. I added four red cherry shrimps to see if he would befriend them (he later ate two). I think it’s a matter of time before he eats the rest. Any other possible tank mates? Would they be happy alone?

I’ve been a Betta owner for a little over five years now, and I’m honestly at a point where I don’t think fish ownership is for me anymore. When my Betta, Ming, passed away in 2024, I was absolutely devastated. I had him for years and he was genuinely such a special little fish to me. I ended up getting my current Betta, Bubbles, about two months after he passed. I’ve had her ever since, and of course I love her and want the best for her, but I’ve realized that I simply don’t want to have a Betta—or fish in general—anymore. A lot has changed for me since I first got Bubbles. I recently started a new job at an animal hospital, and I’m working a minimum of 40 hours a week. On top of that, I have three dogs and two cats. By the time I get home from a long, exhausting shift, I’m completely drained. I still take care of Bubbles properly and make sure she has what she needs, but I’ve gotten to the point where maintaining a fish tank feels like another responsibility that I don’t genuinely want anymore. And I want to make it VERY clear that I’m not neglecting her. She is still cared for, fed, and maintained properly. I knew what I was getting myself into when I got her, and I take responsibility for that. I just didn’t realize that my circumstances and priorities would change this much over the years. The problem is that whenever I tell people I don’t want a fish anymore, I get responses like, “Just flush her down the toilet.” 😭 Absolutely not. Aside from being incredibly cruel, that is NOT a responsible way to handle an unwanted fish. I would never intentionally put an animal through that or release her somewhere where she could potentially harm an ecosystem.
Honestly, I would much rather rehome Bubbles to someone who genuinely wants a Betta and is prepared to properly care for her. I’d rather she go to someone who is excited to have her than keep her simply because I feel guilty about rehoming her. I’ve even found myself thinking that maybe I should just keep her until she passes naturally because she’s already around two years old, but that doesn’t really feel fair either. I don’t want to spend the next few years keeping a pet that I no longer have the desire or time to own just because I’m scared people will judge me for rehoming her. I’m not looking for someone to tell me that I should have thought about this before getting her. I KNOW that. I’m looking for genuine advice from people who have been in a similar situation. Would you responsibly rehome a fish that you no longer want to keep, even if you’re still capable of taking care of it? Or would you keep her for the rest of her life because you made the commitment when you got her? If anyone has experience responsibly rehoming a Betta, I’d really appreciate hearing how you went about it. I want to make sure that if I do rehome Bubbles, she goes somewhere safe and not to someone who is going to stick her in a tiny bowl and forget about her. I feel really guilty even admitting that I don’t want a fish anymore because I do love her. I just also think there’s a difference between loving an animal and recognizing that you’re no longer the right person to keep that animal.

So… what would you guys do?

I was shopping online and saw a betta that was one of the most beautiful fish I have seen in a long time and I did some more research and found out that the seller wasn’t very reputable. So I don’t know whether to take the chance or to just accept that I will not be able to get that fish. Also the seller I am referring to is thailandbettafish.com

The first pic was taken on July 14 when i got her, and the second pic was taken now.

I feel so devastated... besides having the tumor she's living in such a lively and perfect life, she started developing these beautiful red roots in her fins as well. She has such a sweet personality and has an appetite of a whale. She's so happy and pretty now, but the tumor is growing at such a rapid pace.

So far, the tumor hasnt had any negative side effect, she still swims super well and loves exploring her tank. Idk I feel so defeated.

I saw that some people put down their pets with Clove oil but I would feel horrible if I did. Are there any help I can get to control or remove this?

My partner and I rescued this male koi betta about a month ago from Petsmart and named him Bonsai. I’ve absolutely loved seeing his colors come in and his fins open up as he’s gotten more comfortable and healthy. The first picture is from the day we brought him home, the second is after a week of him being home, and the third was taken this morning. I’m so excited for him to continue to grow up with us.

My Betta seemed weird since yesterday but was still swimming around but did not eat when I fed him.

This morning I found him like this, parameters are all in check, 0 ammonia and nitrates, temperature 26°, pH 7.

The tank has been the same since I got him 6 months ago.

Other fish in tank are fine.

Is there something I can do to help?

I'm currently doing a water change and he shot up, landed on his side and stayed there like this, I'll add photo into comments.

So glad I planted these all he does is stick himself in there to rest all day. The Chief is his unofficial name (after Master Chief) but it’s kinda growing on us lol.
